Behind closed doors, TV presenter Fiona Phillips' seemingly perfect marriage was crumbling. In a candid account for the Mail On Sunday, the 64-year-old revealed how Alzheimer's disease, which had already claimed both her parents, began to secretly ravage her life and relationship with husband Martin Frizell, a former This Morning producer.
Unbeknownst to her at the time, the disease was taking hold, causing symptoms she initially brushed off as menopause. As the condition tightened its grip, Fiona became increasingly distant from Martin and their children, sparking frequent arguments and ultimately leading to a secret separation.
Fiona recalled the moment Martin announced he was leaving their family home, marking the end of their fractured relationship. Reflecting on her past, Fiona wrote: "Was I worried that there might be something sinister lurking beneath the surface? That Alzheimer's could one day be coming for me too?"

In hindsight, she admitted: "On one level I did think I would get the disease, but there was also another part of me that was in a strange sort of denial about it all. This illness has devastated so much of my life already, surely it's not going to come for me too?' I'd tell friends."
Fiona opened up about her belief that the disease was "at least partly responsible" for her marriage breakdown, although neither she nor Martin recognised it at the time.

She felt herself becoming "more and more disconnected" from her family, with Martin accusing her of checking out of their relationship, reports the Mirror.
She admitted: "But, if I'm honest, I think he was right. I just didn't seem to have the energy for any of it anymore. I didn't realise quite how seriously Martin felt about it all until one evening he announced he was moving out."
Despite the shock, Fiona didn't think her marriage was completely finished; she felt Martin was simply "trying to shock me into behaving differently".
After a three-week separation, they began texting again and decided to meet at a hotel in Hampshire, hoping to salvage their relationship.
They managed to patch things up, yet Fiona continued to struggle with the same symptoms. In 2023, at 62 years old, she disclosed her diagnosis of Alzheimer's.

Here We Go star Alison Steadman on heartbreaking reason she's quit theatre

Alison Steadman, star of BBC's Here We Go, has revealed she's quit theatre despite it once being her 'favourite thing' to do Actress Alison Steadman opened up about her decision to quit theatre during an appearance on ITV 's This Morning on Friday (25 July). ‌ The TV star sat down with Dermot O'Leary and Olivia Attwood to chat about her latest projects, including the third series of BBC 's Here We Go, but sadly revealed she won't be appearing on stage in the future. ‌ "This breaks my heart. You don't want to do theatre anymore," Dermot said to Alison, with co-host Olivia adding: "Stage fright?" ‌ Alison sadly revealed: "Yeah, really. I've put my shift in and it was my favourite thing. I absolutely loved it, but no more." Alison has starred in numerous theatre productions over the years, having kicked off her career in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie after finishing her studies. ‌ She has also appeared in Abigail's Party, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Entertaining Mr Sloane and Hotel Paradiso. Alison won an Olivier Award for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice. Elsewhere during the interview, Alison teased what's to come in the new series of Here We Go, which launches on BBC One on Friday (25 July). "We're so excited," she said, before revealing what her character Sue Jessop has been up to. "Well, she's moved in with them, it's what she's always wanted! She's living with them, she's rearranged the kitchen, as mother-in-laws do. She just loves it, she just loves being with all the family." ‌ Alison went on to discuss the unique way in which Here We Go is filmed. The series is filmed in one on-going take, meaning there is no opportunity for cuttings or edits. "It's filmed always in one long take, so there's no cuttings. It's quite tough sometimes. It's just quite tiring, sometimes the scenes can be four, five pages long," Alison told Dermot and Olivia. ‌ She admitted: "If you're filming it without a break, and you're doing take after take, sometimes you think 'Please let me rest!'" Alison stars alongside Jim Howick, Katherine Parkinson, Tom Basden, Tori Allen-Martin, Freya Parks, Mica Ricketts, and Jude Morgan-Collie in the hit BBC sitcom. The series, set in the town of Bedford, tells the unique story of the dysfunctional and eccentric Jessop family, from the perspective of teenager Sam (Jude Morgan-Collie), who films plenty of footage on his handheld camera. Flashbacks to less chaotic times also feature, giving the series a unique selling point.

This Morning's Olivia Attwood opens her debut to the ITV show with a BRUTAL comment to her co-star Dermot O'Leary - leaving the studio in stitches

This Morning's Olivia Attwood opened her debut to the ITV show with a BRUTAL comment to her co-star Dermot O'Leary on Friday -which left the studio in stitches. The 34-year-old, who shot to fame on the third series of Love Island in 2017, was announced as a host for the summer break back in June. Friday's episode of This Morning saw Olivia join Dermot for the first time. But the Getting Filthy Rich star couldn't help but make a cheeky comment about Dermot just moments after they went on air. Dermot said to viewers: 'Well hello. Welcome to your Friday's This Morning. 'Look who has joined us today. It's only the lovely Olivia Attwood everyone! Olivia replied: 'Thanks guys! This is not a drill. This is happening! '...I want you to know, I did go for a smaller heel.' Dermot then added: 'You could have worn a flat! That's all I'm saying... Early feedback.' 'I couldn't actually,' Olivia replied. Dermot, who is 5 ft9, told her: 'You could have worn a flat!' The former X Factor presenter then went on his tip toes to get to the same height as his co-host. Olivia's debut has got a lot of people talking on X, formerly known as Twitter, with many sharing how much they think she's a great fit for the show. 'Love to see Olivia is presenting on #thismorning great addition!' 'tbh I like Olivia, there are way more insufferable people than her and at least her documentaries aren't just a reality show all about me me me #thismorning.' Since shooting to fame on Love Island, Olivia has released some of her own documentaries with ITV, including Getting Filthy Rich, The Price of Perfection and presented Bad Boyfriends. She also became a regular panelist on Loose Women back in August 2023. But earlier this month the star hit back at backlash over her upcoming gig on This Morning after cruel trolls insisted it 'wouldn't work'. Traditionalists went as far as threatening they'll 'definitely stop watching' if Olivia joins the morning show. But ITV's golden girl Olivia has assured she is determined to succeed in the new gig and prove the haters wrong. She exclusively told The Sun: 'Those who know me understand the hard work I've put in to get where I am today. 'I'm forever grateful to Love Island for being the springboard to my career, but I'm excited to show there's so much more to me beyond the villa. 'It's been a lot of hard work, but I've always stayed focused on my goals and believed in myself and I'm very thankful for ITV in believing me.' There are a range of other stars who will be presenting This Morning this summer. The likes of Sian Welby, 38, Emma Willis, 49, Josie Gibson, 40, Rochelle Humes, 36, Joel Dommett, 40, Craig Doyle, 54, and Andi Peters, 54, will also be stepping in for Cat Deeley, 48, and Ben Shephard, 50.

This Morning viewers 'surprised' as they make same comment on Olivia Attwood's debut

Olivia Attwood joined the This Morning sofa alongside Dermot O'Leary this morning as she made her presenting debut on the show weeks after making the exciting announcement This Morning underwent a huge presenter shake-up this morning, as former Love Island star Olivia Attwood stepped up to the presenting role for the first time. ‌ It's not the star's first major gig on ITV daytime, having joined the Loose Women presenters on the panel as a regular in August 2023. She also has her own show on the channel, The Price of Perfection, in which she goes behind the scenes of cosmetic procedures, examining society's obsession with the 'perfect' body. ‌ Olivia stepped straight into her This Morning role, warmly welcomed by fellow co-host Dermot O'Leary. However, they couldn't resist making a gag at the height difference between the two – as Olivia joked she had to wear smaller heels to present alongside her co-host. ‌ Elsewhere on the show, Olivia opened up about her ADHD diagnosis during a news segment with Ashley James and Gyles Brandreth. Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter upon her debut, with many saying she was a 'great addition' to the line-up. One impressed fan penned: "Love to see Olivia is presenting on #thismorning great addition!" as a second agreed: "Loving Olivia!" ‌ "Good to see you in the show. You are doing great," another tweeted about the former Love Island star. Others were left surprised with their feelings towards the star presenting, as one penned: "Don't shoot me down but I actually like Olivia presenting!" Another replied: "tbh I like Olivia, there are way more insufferable people than her and at least her documentaries aren't just a reality show all about me me me." ‌ Olivia isn't the only former Love Island star to land a role on the huge ITV morning show, as awkwardly, her ex Chris Hughes joined the programme after his stint on Celebrity Big Brother. Chris, who finished as a finalist on CBB and is now dating his fellow former housemate JoJo Siwa, regularly joins the show via two-way to host the competitions. However, it doesn't look like the two will be having an awkward run in during Olivia's debut, but as she's hosting all Summer, it could happen in the future... Yesterday, regular Summer and Friday presenter Alison Hammond announced it was her final show before taking a break for the next few weeks. Before the show ended, Alison and her co-host Dermot O'Leary gave each other a huge hug as she said, "See you in September, bye!"
