Jeff Bezos & Lauren Sánchez Made a Surprising Request to Guests in Their Wedding Invite
This week, one of the most lavish celebrity weddings is about to take place as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ties the knot with longtime partner Lauren Sánchez. Their wedding, which will take place in Venice, Italy, will surely be an over-the-top event, with A-listers from all over making an appearance.
But, ahead of the nuptials, one request from the bride and groom caught us by surprise.

In an early invite obtained by Good Morning America, Bezos and Sánchez specifically ask guests not to give them gifts. He is a billionaire after all, right?
'We are excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts,' the message says. 'Instead, we're making contributions in your honor and with gratitude to you for making the journey to celebrate with us in Venice.'
'Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city's irreplaceable cultural heritage, to CORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice's future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions,' the invite continues.
'This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories,' the bride and groom added. 'Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come.'
In addition to the text, the invitation is decorated with illustrations of butterflies, birds, stars, Venetian gondolas and Venice's iconic bridge, the Ponte di Rialto, around the edges.
Online, X users have shared their thoughts on the invite. 'Was the invitation made in Microsoft Paint? 😭😭' one user joked. 'What a heartless invite,' another wrote. 'Seems like a business dinner for donors.'
'Just a very elegant way of saying: Yes, we had to bribe the municipality of Venice to host our extravaganza wedding in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage site,' another X user wrote. 'But at least it's for the lagoon 🦋🎭✨.'
But their invite isn't the only source of pushback. In the past few days, the wedding has been the center of backlash due to their choice of venue in Venice. Given the city's small size and limited transportation, a major wedding of this size would cause a major disruption.
As a result, a movement, named No Space for Bezos, has ignited protests and threatened a blockage on canals around Grande Scuola Misericordia, which is where locals think their wedding party would take place, CNN reports. Following their threats, No Space for Bezos has claimed that Bezos and Sánchez have changed their wedding venue.
Per the outlet, locals are guessing that their wedding will be a three-day affair starting on June 26 with a welcome party, then an exchange of vows on the island of San Giorgio on June 27, and a major party on June 28. We'll stay tuned for what actually takes place instead.Best of SheKnows

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's wedding is celebrated with celebrity guests in Venice. See the photos.
Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former TV journalist Lauren Sánchez got married in Venice, Italy, on Friday, with a star-studded celebrity guest list joining them for the festivities. Sánchez posted a photo of the couple on Instagram, showing herself in a fitted wedding dress with a long train, high neck and lace sleeves, and Bezos in a classic black tuxedo, as their guests clapped. Wedding location details have been kept under wraps, but Italian newspapers and Venetian locals predicted it would take place at San Giorgio Maggiore, one of the Venetian islands, which is known for the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore. Bezos and Sanchez invited some 200 guests, according to media reports. Antonio Calanni/AP This is the second marriage for both Bezos, 61, and Sánchez, 55. Bezos was previously married to philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, but the pair divorced in 2019. Sánchez's first marriage to Patrick Whitesell, the executive chair of the talent firm Endeavor, also ended in 2019. Ahead of the nuptials, movie stars, TV personalities and business titans were sighted around Venice. Some were seen arriving on Thursday at the Madonna dell'Orto church for the first of several planned events. Some of the more recognizable names seen in photos include Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, the Kardashians and Jenners, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Tom Brady, Bill Gates, Diane von Furstenberg, Usher, Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner. The influx of so much money and star power prompted protests from local Venetian residents, who launched the "No Space for Bezos" campaign. It comes amid a broader pushback against an overload of tourists across Europe, with some blaming the crowds of visitors for increased costs and rent. But nothing seemed to mar the celebratory mood as Bezos, Sánchez and their guests gathered for the big day. At Bezos' Venetian Wedding: Buzz, Bling and Backlash
On Friday, Venice's canals filled with polished motorboats bearing Hollywood stars, millionaires and Khloé Kardashian in a cape of pink feathers as they headed to Jeff Bezos' wedding to Lauren Sánchez. On Saturday, it was the turn of dozens of public order police officers on foot, boats and water skis. A day after Ms. Sánchez took to Instagram on Friday night to introduce herself to the world as Lauren Sanchez-Bezos, wearing a lacy white mermaid dress, Venice braced for protesters who threatened to descend again on the city to voice their anger over the wedding — and armed conflict around the world. Despite his efforts to have a private if star-studded multimillion-dollar wedding in Venice, Mr. Bezos' wealth and powerful connections left the couple's thoroughly curated celebrations caught up in an intensely political and moral debate. From Venetian bars to British newspapers and even among Italian politicians in Rome, the wedding became a topic of conversation, focusing not on the bride's outfits, but on Mr. Bezos' businesses, money and friends. The result was an over-the-top party in one of the world's most stunning cities mixing Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Ivanka Trump and political overtones. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

BBC Confirms Neil Young Glastonbury Set Will Be Televized Live After All
Neil Young's on-off relationship with the BBC and Glastonbury appears to have been resolved, for now, and the singer's set will be shown live tonight on the national broadcaster. Yesterday, the BBC said the iconic singer's performance on the Pyramid Stage would not be available to watch at Young's request, with the BBC planning to instead show Charli XCX's performance from the Other Stage. More from Deadline BBC Storyville Seeking New Head Following Role Closures & 20% Reduction In Films BBC News Presenters Back Demand For Strike Vote As Colleagues Face Compulsory Layoffs BBC To Charge U.S. Audiences For News For First Time As of the past few minutes, this has been reversed. 'We are delighted to confirm that Neil Young's headline set from Glastonbury on Saturday will be broadcast live to audiences across the UK on the BBC,' said a spokeswoman. 'It will be on iPlayer's Pyramid Stage stream from 10pm, as well as BBC Two and Radio 2. Our on-demand plans continue to be finalised.' Young's relationship with Glastonbury and the BBC has been rocky for months. Earlier this year, after he had been confirmed as headliner, he and his Chrome Hearts band initially said they were pulling out of the country's biggest music fest because it was under the 'corporate control' of the BBC. This was also reversed shortly afterwards. Young's will he-won't is not the biggest controversy at this year's Glastonbury, which is attended by more than 200,000 people and kicked off properly yesterday. In a few hours' time, controversial Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap will take to the West Holts Stage and the BBC is still not clarifying how it will go about covering the set. One of the group's members, Mo Chara, is currently bailed on a terror charge after displaying a flag at a London gig in support of Hezbollah – a proscribed terrorist group in the UK. This came a few months after counter-terrorism police said they were assessing videos of a bandmember allegedly telling fans at a gig: 'The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP.' In a Guardian interview yesterday, the band said they were 'in character' when displaying the flag. 'S**t is thrown on stage all the time. If I'm supposed to know every f***ing thing that's thrown on stage… I'd be in Mensa, Jesus Christ,' said Mo Chara, AKA Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh. All eyes are trained on Kneecap and in what form they appear on the national broadcaster, which has said 'our plans will ensure that our programming will meet our editorial guidelines.'
