Houthis say they hold 10 crew from Greek-operated ship they sank off Yemen

Yemen Online6 days ago
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis said on Monday they had rescued 10 seafarers from the Greek-operated cargo ship Eternity C, which they attacked and sank in the Red Sea earlier this month.
The Liberia-flagged Eternity C was the second ship to sink off Yemen this month after repeated attacks by Houthi militants with sea drones and rocket-propelled grenades. Another Greek-operated vessel, the Magic Seas, had gone down days earlier.
The Philippine government confirmed on Tuesday nine of the rescued seafarers were Filipinos.
Migrant workers minister Hans Cacdac said the sailors were in 'good physical condition' based on accounts from their families, and that the government was working to secure their release and safe return.
The strikes on the two vessels marked a revival of attacks on shipping by the Houthis, who hit more than 100 ships between November 2023 and December 2024 in what they said was a show of solidarity with the Palestinians in the war in Gaza.
The Eternity C crew and three armed guards were forced to abandon the ship following the attacks. Ten people were rescued by a privately-led mission, while five more are feared dead mainly due to the attacks.
A further 10 people were believed to be held by Houthis, maritime security sources had told Reuters.
On Monday, the Houthis group released a six-minute video showing pictures of the 10 seafarers with some of them contacting their families. They also showed testimonies saying that the crew members were not aware of a maritime ban by Houthis against vessels sailing to Israeli ports. They said the vessel was heading to Israel's Eilat Port to load fertilizers.
Reuters could not independently verify the footage.
In what they called phase four of their military operations, the Houthis said on Sunday they would target any ships belonging to companies that do business with Israeli ports, regardless of their nationalities.
Following the recent attacks, Greece said it would deploy a salvage vessel in the Red Sea to assist in maritime accidents and protect seafarers and global shipping.

Gaza – SABA: The Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), announced on Monday a joint operation with Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, resulting in the destruction of an Israeli military armored vehicle in the east of Shujaiya neighborhood in Gaza City. In a military statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the brigades stated: "After re-establishing contact with one of our units... we, in coordination with Al-Quds Brigades, destroyed a Zionist armored vehicle by detonating an anti-armor explosive on Al-Manatad Street in eastern Shujaiya on 10/07/2025, leaving its crew members dead and wounded."* They emphasized that this operation comes *"as part of our ongoing response to the occupation's crimes against our people." Since October 7, 2023, Palestinian resistance factions have continued their heroic operations against the Zionist enemy as part of the ongoing "Al-Aqsa Flood' battle. Gaza Government Media Office: "Enemy has allowed only 14% of required aid over 8 days"

Gaza - Saba: The Government Media Office in Gaza revealed on Monday that the Israeli enemy has permitted the entry of only 14% of the required humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip over the past eight days. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the office explained that the Israeli enemy continues to enforce a policy of "engineered chaos and starvation" against civilians in the Strip. It noted that only 674 trucks had entered the Strip in eight days, out of the approximately 4,800 trucks needed to meet the minimum humanitarian requirements—averaging no more than 84 trucks per day. The office pointed out that most of this aid, after entering Gaza, is subjected to "systematic looting and theft" due to the security chaos imposed by the Israeli enemy. It emphasized that the Strip requires at least 600 aid and fuel trucks daily to secure basic needs in the health, service, and food sectors, amid the complete collapse of infrastructure and the ongoing genocide committed by the Zionist enemy. The Media Office strongly condemned the crime of deliberate starvation, the continued closure of crossings, and the prevention of the entry of infant formula and relief supplies. It held the Israeli enemy and its international allies fully responsible for the worsening humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of over 2.4 million Palestinians in the besieged enclave. The statement concluded by reiterating the call for the international and humanitarian community to take urgent action to permanently open crossings, ensure the continuous flow of relief and medical aid, and hold the enemy accountable for its ongoing crimes against defenseless civilians in Gaza. Iran Establishes National Defense Council; Army Commander Warns of Ongoing Israeli Threats

Tehran – SABA: The Supreme National Security Council of Iran officially announced today the approval of the formation of a 'National Defense Council', reflecting an escalation in the country's military preparedness amid rising regional tensions—particularly with the Israeli entity. According to a statement published by Tasnim News Agency, the National Defense Council will be responsible for matters related to national protection, will focus on defense strategies, and will work to strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces. The statement confirmed that the council will be headed by the President of the Republic, and its members will include the heads of the legislative and judicial branches, senior commanders of the armed forces, and relevant ministries. Earlier today, Major General Amir Hatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, issued a warning stating that Israeli threats remain ongoing, emphasizing that the Iranian armed forces are at the highest level of readiness and will continue their defensive efforts with determination. Speaking before senior commanders of the Iranian Ground Forces, Hatami noted that 'the enemy has repeatedly attempted to harm the Islamic system through various conspiracies, but after witnessing the steadfastness of the Iranian people, it realized that its calculations were wrong and that it had made a major strategic error.'
