Female Teen Hockey Player In Odisha Abducted, Raped By Coach, His Associates
Last Updated: A 15-year-old hockey trainee from Odisha's Jajpur was allegedly abducted and raped by her coach and two former coaches. A 15-year-old female hockey trainee from Odisha's Jajpur was allegedly abducted and raped by her coach earlier this month, news agency PTI said in a report. Police officers on Tuesday said that two of her former coaches also acted as accomplices. The survivor filed the complaint on Monday, almost 20 days after the incident. The victim alleged that her coach and his associates forced her into a vehicle while she was returning home and took her to a lodge and sexually assaulted her. They then threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone or tried to file a complaint with the police. Police officers immediately detained four people for their alleged involvement in the incident, acting on the complaint. 'We have arrested one hockey coach and two former coaches. One of them has raped the girl, and the two others assisted him in the crime," Jajpur Superintendent of Police Yashpratap Shrimal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Police have registered a case under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act, including rape charges. One of the detained suspects was released as no evidence has been found against him so far, officials said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. Over the past few months, Odisha has been rocked by a surge in sexual assault cases, drawing widespread outrage and political action. In Balasore, a 20‑year‑old college student self‑immolated after alleging sexual harassment by a professor. Two teachers in Balasore were arrested after a Class‑IX student accused them of prolonged sexual and mental harassment this month. Congress's Odisha NSUI president, Udit Pradhan, was arrested over alleged rape of a 19‑year‑old student in Bhubaneswar. In June, a 20‑year‑old college student was allegedly gang‑raped by 10 men near Gopalpur sea beach; the victim lodged her complaint late at night, prompting an NHRC suo motu notice and police detaining seven suspects. view comments First Published: July 22, 2025, 18:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Operation Sindoor aftermath: BSF ups drone shield along Pakistan border; first UAV squadron being raised to counter threat
This is an AI-generated image, used for representational purposes only. NEW DELHI: In a major move to strengthen border defences, the Border Security Force (BSF) is raising its first drone squadron to counter increasing aerial threats from Pakistan, especially in the wake of lethal drone attacks witnessed during Operation Sindoor . The unit will be deployed at select Border Outposts (BoPs) along the India-Pakistan frontier and will include reconnaissance, surveillance and attack drones operated by specially trained personnel, official sources said, as quoted by news agency PTI. This specialised drone squadron, to be monitored by a control room based at the BSF's western command in Chandigarh, is a direct response to recent security challenges, including Pakistan's use of drone swarms targeting Indian military and civilian areas. During Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike launched by India on May 7 following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, Pakistan responded by sending thousands of drones across the border. One such deadly attack occurred on May 10, when a bomb-laden Pakistani drone dropped explosives on BSF's Kharkola post in the RS Pura sector of Jammu. The attack killed two BSF personnel and one Army jawan, critically injuring four others. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AirSense 11 – Smart tech for deep sleep ResMed Buy Now Undo One of the injured troops had to undergo leg amputation. As per PTI, the BSF has since begun fortifying its border infrastructure. Bunker walls and roofs are being reinforced with alloy sheets and additional protective measures are being implemented at vulnerable posts. A BSF officer said the force is also working with defence and intelligence agencies to install counter-drone technology at key locations to intercept and neutralise rogue UAVs. According to PTI, sources confirmed that the new drone squadron will be stationed at BoPs spanning the more than 2,000-km India-Pakistan border across Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Each drone team will consist of 2-3 trained personnel. Some equipment has already been procured, and training is underway in batches. Union home minister Amit Shah recently said the BSF 'destroyed more than 118 Pakistani posts and completely dismantled their surveillance system' during Operation Sindoor, underlining the force's aggressive role in recent border operations. Meanwhile, Pakistan-based smugglers have stepped up attempts to push narcotics and arms across the border using drones. The BSF recently recovered a DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone and a 3.7 kg heroin packet in Punjab's Tarn Taran, and earlier intercepted drones carrying drugs and weapon parts near Amritsar and Khemkaran. These frequent drone intrusions reflect the urgency behind the BSF's decision to launch a dedicated UAV combat unit.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov on French probe against Elon Musk's Twitter: ‘At this point, any tech company…'
French authorities are investigating Elon Musk owned X (formerly Twitter) for alleged algorithm manipulation. The social media platform denied the allegations, calling it 'a politically-motivated criminal investigation'. Responding to the news, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has now shared an X post where he said that 'at this point, any tech company can be declared a 'criminal gang' in France". Durov further stated that such investigations can be harmful for attracting investments. 'A decade of efforts to attract tech investment is being undone by a few bureaucrats advancing their careers and political agendas — at the expense of the French people,' he wrote in the post. Why French lawmakers are probing Twitter Earlier this month, French prosecutors opened a preliminary probe into the social media platform, accusing it of data tampering. Based on suspected algorithmic bias and fraudulent data extraction, the probe authorizes police to conduct searches, wiretaps and surveillance against Elon Musk and Twitter executives, or summon them to testify. If they do not comply, a judge could issue an arrest warrant, a Reuters report said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Translation of all Languages Translation of all Languages | Search Ads Search Now Undo Twitter responds to French probe Responding to the probe, X Global Government Affairs account wrote on X: 'French authorities have launched a politically-motivated criminal investigation into X over the alleged manipulation of its algorithm and alleged 'fraudulent data extraction.'
