Tamil Arasu bagged a sprint double in the Indian Open athletics meet held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday.
Arasu won a crowded 100m men's field with a timing of 10.46s, before taking the gold in the 200m. Arasu (21.25s), in Race E, clocked the same timing as Haryana's Shubham from Race A. Arasu was declared the winner on basis of wind-resistance.
There was some inconvenience for athletes as the pole vault events were shifted to the SAI campus. Officials stated that the SAI campus was better equipped to handle the pole vault events, even as the decision came rather late in the day.
Teenager Abinaya Rajarajan impressed in the women's 100m, taking first place with a fine 11.55s run.
Railways' Bhavani Yadav took the women's long jump gold with a 6.31m leap in the sixth and final attempt to edge out JSW's Sandra Babu (6.24m).

Teenage female boxer alleges harassment by coach

New Delhi: A 17-year-old female boxer has levelled allegations of sexual harassment against a woman boxing coach posted at Sports Authority of India's (SAI) National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, Haryana. Based on a complaint by the boxer, an FIR was registered against the coach under the POCSO Act (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences) on Friday. Indian boxing is facing a fresh controversy following allegations of sexual harassment by a teenage female boxer. (Shutterstock) In the FIR, the boxer's mother has alleged 'physical torture' and 'sexual abuse' against her daughter by the coach during an India camp held in Ireland (March 24-April 3). The coach was the head of the training and exposure camp for India's youth boxers. The complaint has been registered under Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita's sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) besides POCSO's section 10 (aggravated sexual assault). The boxer's parents said they complained to the Boxing Federation of India and met its officials but the coach has not been removed from her post, the FIR says. A top BFI official said the complaint to them was only about physical abuse like slapping and neither the boxer nor her parents raised any issue of 'sexual harassment' against the coach. 'We immediately formed a panel of two members and enquired into the incident. There was also a lawyer to record the statements. She (the boxer) had spoken about being slapped and asked to do front rolls by the coach. We recorded her statements – her parents also came along. We interacted with other members of team and support staff and also the coach. We also visited the academy in Rohtak and spoke to boxers there. We've submitted our report to SAI,' the official told HT. 'There was nothing that warranted any action against the coach. And there was no charge of sexual harassment. We are surprised that her parents did not even speak once about it during our interaction,' the official said. The SAI has been reached for comment. The boxer's mother has alleged, as per the FIR, that during the camp, the coach's behaviour towards her daughter was 'indecent'. 'She physically tortured and molested her. In the past also this coach's behaviour was not appropriate and she had tried to touch my child in a wrong manner but my child was not able to understand and she thought it was normal,' she has said in her complaint. A copy of the FIR is with HT. 'During the camp the coach asked my child to make a video. When the child showed the video, the coach blasted her in front of the team and made her do front rolls in front of the women's team and then in the men's changing room. My child was injured in the back (bruised).' She alleged that the next day the coach did not accompany the boxer during her match and also didn't let any other coach be with her. 'She fought the bout alone (with no one in her corner) in the ring and we have video footage of the same.' 'After her bout, she called my child in the hall and raised questions on her character. My child went into depression. She called the entire team in the hall and insulted her and asked her to bring her phone. When my child went to her room to bring her phone, the coach came from behind and closed the door. The coach started to touch her private parts and molested her, saying 'I will teach you how to make a good video'. 'The coach asked her to remove her clothes and forcefully tried to remove her clothes when my child pushed her and raised her voice. The coach then slapped her repeatedly and came to the hall and told her to write a letter in the presence of everyone that 'I have another phone which I use to speak to the boys'. 'When my daughter refused to do that she again slapped her. My daughter wrote a letter against the coach mentioning how she was beaten, but the coach intimidated her and made her change her statement fearing that she will complain against her after coming to India.' The complainant, in the FIR, has said that her daughter went back to the NBA but the coach 'repeatedly tried to meet her, touch her and intimidate her. My daughter is feeling harassed and in deep depression, and we are also depressed.'

National-level boxer alleges sexual harassment by woman coach; FIR filed

Representational Photo A minor female boxer has filed a sexual harassment complaint against a woman coach at the Sports Authority of India's National Boxing Academy in Rohtak. The victim's parents have reported that their daughter has fallen into depression due to continuous mental and physical abuse. The Boxing Federation of India and Sports Authority of India have confirmed receiving a complaint about intimidation and slapping incidents from the 17-year-old victim. However, they deny being informed about sexual harassment as mentioned in the FIR. The internal investigations by both organizations found no evidence against the coach. The coach continues to lead the national camp for junior and youth boxers. The victim's FIR, filed at a Rohtak police station, states that the coach attempted to forcibly remove her clothes, slapped her multiple times, threatened her career, and labeled her as a "person of bad character" in front of other boxers. The police have registered the complaint under Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita's section 115 and 351(3), along with Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse act's section 10. No allegation of sexual harassment was levelled in that complaint," a SAI Regional Centre (Sonepat) spokesperson told PTI. "A detailed inquiry was conducted in which statements of the complainant, the coach concerned, the fellow coaches and staff members and fellow athletes were taken and the allegations made could not be established." Poll How serious do you think the issue of harassment in sports is? Very serious. Somewhat serious. Not serious. "SAI is committed to ensuring clean sports and will extend any cooperation required during investigation based on the FIR, at any point of time." The victim's parents have expressed dissatisfaction with the BFI's handling of the situation. According to the FIR, the coach allegedly humiliated and molested the boxer during the Ireland tour. "This coach had tried to touch her inappropriately in the past too but my child could not understand her actions at that time," the FIR states. The parents reported that their daughter was punished with intense physical exercise for failing to record a training video as requested by the coach. "She apologised to the coach for not recording the video as well as the coach desired and requested her to do the seconding for her in the fight. But the coach did not go with her for the fight and did not allow any other coach to accompany her either. She even stopped my daughter's fellow boxers from helping or supporting her during the bout. We have CCTV footage to prove that my daughter was alone in the ring." The parents of the boxer, who has won two national-level gold medals, have alleged molestation by the coach. "The coach accused my daughter of talking excessively to boys. She called other boxers, insulted her in front of them and asked her to bring her phone. When my daughter headed to her room to do as instructed, she followed her inside and tried to touch her inappropriately after locking the room from inside. She tried to forcibly take off my daughter's clothes and when she resisted and pushed her, the coach repeatedly slapped her. She then dragged her to the training hall and asked my daughter to give in writing that she had two phones and was using one of them to talk to boys," they alleged. The parents stated their daughter was slapped for refusing to follow instructions. SAI's investigation found no support for these claims from other boxers present during the tour. "She threatened my daughter of consequences if she dared complained against her behaviour. She called her mentally unstable as well. The coach not only took my daughter's phone but also forced her to share its password after slapping her. She also took away her personal diary. My daughter is in depression and in a state of shock." The parents learned about their daughter's situation from one of her camp mates. They rushed to Rohtak, where she revealed her experiences to them. National-Level Minor Boxer Alleges Sexual Harassment By Woman Coach; Parents Lodge FIR

A woman coach with the Sports Authority of India's National Boxing Academy in Rohtak has been accused of sexual harassment by a minor pugilist, who according to the FIR filed by her parents, has slipped into depression because of repeated "mental and physical abuse". Despite having a copy of the FIR, PTI is withholding the name of the accused as the matter is under investigation. When reached for a comment, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) acknowledged receiving a complaint from the 17-year-old victim about intimidation and incidents of slapping but denied being told about sexual harassment as alleged in the FIR. Both the bodies said that their internal investigations did not find any evidence against the coach, who is continuing to play a leading role in conducting the national camp for junior and youth boxers at this point. In her FIR lodged at a Rohtak police station, the victim has stated that the coach tried to forcibly remove her clothes once, slapped her on multiple occasions, threatened to ruin her career and called her a "person of bad character" in front of other boxers leading to her isolation. The complaint against the coach has been registered under Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita's section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) along with Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse act's section 10 (aggravated sexual assault). SAI said it would assist in the investigations as and when required. "...we have not received copy of any such FIR as of now. A complaint was however lodged by a female Boxer of NBA Rohtak through email, on 24/4/25 in which she alleged Mental and Physical harassment by a female coach during an invitational boxing tournament held in Ireland from 25th March 2025 to 3rd April 2025. No allegation of sexual harassment was levelled in that complaint," SAI Regional Centre (Sonepat) stated in response to PTI query. "A detailed inquiry was conducted in which statements of the complainant, the coach concerned, the fellow coaches and staff members and fellow athletes were taken and the allegations made could not be established. "SAI is committed to ensuring clean sports and will extend any cooperation required during investigation based on the FIR, at any point of time," it added. The girl's parents have stated that they are not satisfied with the BFI's handling of the matter. Describing in detail the abuse she was allegedly subjected to, the victim's parents said that during the tour of Ireland, the coach humiliated the boxer and went on to molest her as well. "This coach had tried to touch her inappropriately in the past too but my child could not understand her actions at that time," the FIR alleged. The parents said that the victim was also punished with strenuous physical exercise after failing to record a (training) video as demanded by the coach. "She apologised to the coach for not recording the video as well as the coach desired and requested her to do the seconding (coaching assistance during bouts) for her in the fight. "But the coach did not go with her for the fight and did not allow any other coach to accompany her either. She even stopped my daughter's fellow boxers from helping or supporting her during the bout. We have CCTV footage to prove that my daughter was alone in the ring." The parents alleged that the boxer, who won two national-level gold medals despite her difficult circumstances, was also molested by the coach. "The coach accused my daughter of talking excessively to boys. She called other boxers, insulted her in front of them and asked her to bring her phone. When my daughter headed to her room to do as instructed, she followed her inside and tried to touch her inappropriately after locking the room from inside," the FIR states. "She tried to forcibly take off my daughter's clothes and when she resisted and pushed her, the coach repeatedly slapped her. She then dragged her to the training hall and asked my daughter to give in writing that she had two phones and was using one of them to talk to boys," they alleged. The parents said that the girl was slapped on refusing to abide by the instructions. However, SAI has said that during their investigation, none of the other boxers on the tour backed this assertion and maintained that no such incident took place in their presence. "She threatened my daughter of consequences if she dared complained against her behaviour. She called her mentally unstable as well. The coach not only took my daughter's phone but also forced her to share its password after slapping her. She also took away her personal diary. My daughter is in depression and in a state of shock," they alleged. The parents said they came to know of their child's plight from one of her camp mates and rushed to Rohtak, where she finally broke down and narrated her ordeal.
