The gangster was allegedly operating the criminal acts from Bahrain where he was hiding for two years. "Ansu will be taken into remand for further interrogation," said the SSP.

PMC-HDIL case: ED files add'l chargesheet on 1.7k-acre lands
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a third supplementary chargesheet in the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC Bank) and Housing Development & Infrastructure Pvt Ltd (PMC-HDIL) loan fraud case. The recent chargesheet involves a part of an approximately 1,700 acre land parcels in Sindhudurg district, which the agency has already attached and requested the court for confiscation. In the chargesheet, the ED accused Rakesh Wadhawan and Sarang Wadhawan, along with others, of using money defrauded from PMC Bank to purchase the agriculture lands in benami names, including their employees. They intended to offer the lands at a higher rate for the proposed Vijay Durg port project, which did not materialise due to the ED's action. The state govt is keen to develop the port, and discussions suggested that through restitution, the land would revert to PMC Bank. With the consent of the ED, PMC Bank may explore the possibility of handing it over to the state for the port project while protecting its financial interests. They allegedly fraudulently replaced 44 loan accounts with 21,049 fictitious loan accounts, causing a wrongful loss of Rs 4,355 crore to PMC Bank and corresponding gains to themselves and others. So far, the ED has provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 772 crore in the case and filed four chargesheets naming a total 46 accused. The ED said, "The present supplementary chargesheet further strengthens the case by establishing the money trail from HDIL accounts for land acquisition in Sindhudurg through benamidars led by Mukesh Khadpe." During the investigation, the ED found Wadhawans diverted proceeds of crime from the bank accounts of HDIL and its group of companies, "to various persons/entities to acquire huge agricultural lands from several villagers in Sindhudurg district in the benami names of farmers/employees, led by accused Mukesh Khadpe".

25-year-old man brutally murdered for Rs 3,000 rent in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: A 25-year-old man was brutally murdered in Ludhiana's Haibowal area on Thursday night following a dispute over unpaid rent amounting to Rs 3,000. The victim, Ravi Verma , was attacked with sharp-edged weapons near a private hospital by a group of men allegedly led by a fellow tenant. Ravi, who ran a food cart, had been living with his pregnant wife in a labour quarter in Suncity Colony for the past five months. He was the youngest of five siblings and had married just a year ago. According to his wife, Suman, the landlord had asked Ravi to collect rent from other tenants in the quarter. One of them, Manish, had defaulted on two months' rent, which led to a heated argument between the two on July 27. Manish reportedly manhandled Ravi during the altercation. On Thursday, Ravi and Suman vacated their room and temporarily shifted to the house of Manish's in-laws, who also reside in the same locality. Later that night, around 10:15pm, Ravi received a call from Manish, who claimed that he wanted to apologise for his behaviour and requested a meeting. Although Ravi initially suggested meeting the next morning, Manish insisted, and Ravi agreed. Sub-inspector Jasbir Singh, SHO, Haibowal police station, confirmed that an FIR had been registered against Manish and his unidentified accomplices on charges of murder. SAD accuses AAP of launching political vendetta against Majithia
Ludhiana: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of targeting senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia through politically motivated cases. SAD leaders claimed that Majithia was being denied civil liberties and was facing fresh legal action aimed at silencing the opposition. Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, senior SAD leaders Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that a false case had been registered against Majithia for allegedly obstructing a Vigilance Bureau raid at his Amritsar residence on June 25. They asserted that the raid was live-streamed, and the footage clearly showed that Majithia did not interfere with officials. Instead, they accused the Vigilance team of acting in a high-handed manner. "The team was not stopped from conducting its business in any way," said Grewal. He pointed out what he called a double standard, citing an incident where Union minister Ravneet Bittu allegedly physically stopped a police officer from arresting Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu in a corruption case. "No FIR was filed then, but Majithia is being targeted only because AAP fears his presence among the people," he added. The leaders also claimed that the FIR was a retaliatory move after SAD legislator Ganieve Kaur Majithia filed a complaint with Chandigarh Police. She accused the Vigilance Bureau of criminal trespass into her official residence without a search warrant while she was in Amritsar. "The AAP government is jittery that legal action may be taken against its own team, and that's why it rushed to file a counter FIR against Majithia," said Dr Cheema. Grewal revealed that SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal had sought a meeting with the Punjab governor to raise the issue. Although the governor was indisposed, the meeting is expected to take place within a week. "We will fight this battle both politically and legally. The AAP government's vendetta politics must be exposed," he said. The press conference also touched upon other controversies, including the Ananta Enclave project developed by Dakha MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali. Grewal alleged that Ayali had struck a deal with the AAP government, allowing him to construct a road on government land to access his colony. He further claimed that Ayali facilitated the entry of his son's father-in-law, former DIG Gurpreet Singh Gill, into AAP during the Ludhiana West by-election to shield himself from scrutiny. Dr Cheema also criticized the AAP government's new tender policy, which mandates that no road repair tender below Rs 50 crore be issued by the Mandi Board.
