Blue Eye Samurai (2023-)
One of the best-animated series in the history of Netflix, Blue Eye Samurai tells the story of a female samurai who hides her gender while seeking revenge in Edo-era Japan. The show, which is set in a period in Japanese history when Westerners were strictly forbidden, is all about its central character's attempt to kill the man she suspects is her father.
In addition to some incredibly inventive and gory action, Blue Eye Samurai is a show with a compelling and unconventional roster of central characters. Few shows are as confident or intricate as this show, and even fewer manage to stick the landing this well.

Derry Girls (2018-2022)
A hilarious, deeply endearing series about a group of Irish teenagers who are growing up against the backdrop of the Troubles in the 1990s, Derry Girls is another show that comes out of the gate with remarkable confidence. Its central quartet of young women are all offbeat, and crucially, each of them seems like they could really be an Irish teenager.
Derry Girls has its share of small-scale dramas, but mostly, it's a show about how mundane life can be even when history is unfolding all around you. While you might want to turn subtitles on, Derry Girls is also a show jam-packed with genuinely excellent jokes.

Supergirl (2015-2021)
Supergirl existed in an era saturated with superhero content. Yet this show and its CW compatriots often felt like the closest to capturing the spirit of the comic books. The show starts as Kara Zor-El is just coming into her own and takes innumerable twists and turns over the course of its run.
Thanks to the central performance of Melissa Benoist, the show managed to be exactly the right level of fun through much of its run. If you're hankering for Superman content ahead of the new movie, Supergirl might be the perfect show to binge.

12 GameCube Games That I Want to See on Nintendo Switch Online
The GameCube era was one of Nintendo's most creatively experimental periods, and it's long overdue for more representation on Nintendo Switch Online. At the time of writing, only three GameCube titles have made their way to Switch Online on the Switch 2: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur II. These are without a doubt great titles, but it's a shame there aren't more. I'm not just talking about bestsellers either, there are plenty of weird and wonderful titles that deserve a second chance through Switch Online. Whether it's to preserve history, introduce new players to long-lost gems, or simply make these games accessible without sketchy emulators and ancient hardware, there's a strong case to be made for bringing them back. Super Smash Bros. Melee redefined what a platform fighter could be and remains a title that sees competitive tournaments worldwide, over two decades after its launch. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has certainly perfected the series, but Melee is an absolute classic that deserves to be celebrated without having to dig through sketchy ROMs or have access to a GameCube. Adding Melee to Nintendo Switch Online would be more than nostalgic fan service — it's a preservation of gaming culture. While Nintendo has never prioritized online play for Switch Online titles, the game flourish with official support and rollback netcode. Please, Nintendo. Long before New Horizons became a global phenomenon, the original Animal Crossing introduced players to a charming real-time world. While newer entries in the series have refined the formula, the GameCube original still offers a uniquely cozy, slower-paced experience. Its regional quirks, NES game emulation, and surprisingly witty villager dialogue give it a nostalgic charm modern versions can't fully replicate. Plus, many longtime fans never got to play the original, making it one of Nintendo's most inaccessible classics. While Mario Kart World is being praised for its massive multiplayer and open-world gameplay, I'm still dreaming about the innovative two-character kart from Double Dash. One player drove while the other managed items, adding a strategic layer that no other Mario Kart title has replicated since. A one-of-a-kind installment and a couch co-op classic, this would be a top title if added to Switch Online. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is one of the franchise's most inventive—and most overlooked—entries. Up to four players controlled different colored Links, working together (or sometimes against each other) to solve puzzles and defeat enemies, making it one of the most chaotic Zelda titles ever made. Back in the day, full multiplayer gameplay required players to own a Game Boy Advance and a link cable to connect to the GameCube. For this reason, not many people have truly experienced the game the way it was meant to be played. A Switch Online version could scrap that hardware requirement, letting players tackle the adventure locally or online without the extra barrier. Four Swords Adventures is practically begging for an updated release in today's hyper-multiplayer space. If you tried to explain Viewtiful Joe to someone who wasn't there when it launched in 2003, they'd think you were making it up. It blended fast-paced 2D beat-'em-up action with a slick comic book aesthetic and clever time-bending mechanics. Joe was starring in his own superhero movie, with slow-motion 'VFX' powers that turned each battle into a stylish, strategic spectacle. While Viewtiful Joe was critically acclaimed, it has faded away to video game history over the years and is in desperate need of a revival, even just on Switch Online. This third-party gem would be an absolute hit for Switch owners looking for a little something outside the norm to dive into. Star Fox Adventures has one of the weirdest backstories in Nintendo history. It started out as two separate N64 64 projects—an action adventure sequel to Star Fox 64 and something called Dinosaur Planet, which was owned by Rare—before the two ideas were morphed together and pushed to the GameCube. The result was a full-fledged 3D action-adventure, blending Zelda-style exploration with the Star Fox universe's colorful characters and lore, on a planet full of dinosaurs. The story is surprisingly in-depth, the puzzles and fighting are challenging, and we loved giving Fox McCloud a chance to stretch his legs instead of being cooped up in a ship all day. This title is a hidden gem, and Star Fox is a Nintendo character that doesn't get enough attention these days. A new life on Switch Online would be a brand-new adventure for the series. Wario World may not be the most famous title in Nintendo's catalog, but it's one of the most charming oddities from the GameCube era. It gave Mario's greedy, mischievous rival his own 3D action platformer — blending beat-'em-up combat, puzzle-solving, and treasure hunting into a uniquely Wario-flavored adventure. The arcade-inspired levels were filled with over-the-top boss battles as Wario pocketed as much treasure as he could find. There's been absolutely no news of a new Wario game outside the popular WarioWare party series, so we should at least give this lovable villain a chance to shine on Switch Online. Developed by Sega, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is one of the most creative platformers of its era, if not all-time. The premise is equally odd and epic: a boy in a chicken suit rolls giant eggs through vibrant levels, hatching creatures, solving puzzles, and battling enemies in a quest to save Morning Land from eternal darkness. Intrigued? Playful, weird, and surprisingly deep, this is one of those quirky titles that has never gotten a sequel. A new life on Switch Online would give nostalgic players a chance to revisit this wacky game and new players an intro to a weird era of gaming. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc built on the charm of its predecessors while injecting a more cheeky tone and fast-paced combat. Its sarcastic dialogue, fourth-wall-breaking humor, and memorable characters (like the fan-favorite bouncy amphibian Globox) gave the game a unique identity that stood out from other platformers. They just don't make snarky games like this anymore. Rayman is one of those IPs that has always lived just under mainstream gaming and Switch Online would be a great place to introduce this oddball installment of the series. Tak and the Power of Juju is one of the mst underrated 3D platformers of the early 2000s, embodying the core of the GameCube era's quirky experimental spirit. This game stood out for its lush environments, puzzle-centric level design, and a distinct sense of humor rooted in Nickelodeon's signature style (it even spawned a full animated series later on). Set in a mystical jungle world where Tak, a young shaman's apprentice, must wield the power of nature spirits, the game blended traditional platforming with magical powers and environmental interactions. The adventure was full of creative ideas and wacky antics, making it a cult favorite.

The Sandman Season 2 Cast: Here's Where You've Seen The New Additions Before
The Sandman is returning for its second and final season this month, and there are a few new faces joining the Endless family. Season one of the acclaimed Netflix fantasy drama, adapted from Neil Gaiman's comic book series, followed Dream (played by Tom Sturridge) as he escaped captivity after over a century of being held prisoner. The second run – production on which was already underway when allegations about Gaiman were made public – picks up a few weeks on from the season one finale, with Dream restoring his kingdom, before he's faced with a series of tough decisions as he attempts to escape the fallout of his past. While the first batch of episodes in season two (dubbed 'volume one') are available to watch now, volume two will drop on 24 July, followed by a bonus episode on 31 July. If you're getting ready to watch the first half of season two (or already have!) here's where you've probably seen the new additions to the show before… The British TV legend joins the show as the voice of Destruction's dog Barnabus. He is, of course, best known for his iconic comedy alter-ego Alan Partridge. Since his early days as Alan Partridge, Steve has enjoyed a long acting career across film and TV, including starring in the Oscar-nominated 2013 movie Philomena. His other notable credits across the years include Stan & Ollie, Greed, What We Do In The Shadows, Minions: The Rise Of Gru, The Reckoning, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief and many more. He and Rob Brydon also appear together in the hit sitcom The Trip and its many spin-offs. Adrian Lester will play Destiny this season, the eldest of the Endless who Netflix describes as a 'stoic, all-knowing, monk-like figure'. Before appearing in The Sandman, the British actor was best known for playing Mickey Stone in all eight seasons of crime drama Hustle. He's also been in movies like The Day After Tomorrow, Doomsday, Primary Colors, Mary Queen of Scots, along with TV roles in Renegade Nell, Riviera and Girlfriends. Also new this season is Barry Sloane's Destruction, the Endless sibling who 'abandoned his realm'. Gamers will recognise his voice as Captain Price in the rebooted Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy, receiving a Bafta nomination for the first instalment. Soap fans will also know Barry for his role as Sean Smith in Brookside and Niall Rafferty in Hollyoaks, along with brief appearances in Casualty, The Bill and Doctors. He's also been in shows like The Bay, Passenger, The Company You Keep, Six, Revenge, Holby City and more. Next year, the actor will be joining the cast of House Of The Dragon for its third season in the role of Ser Adrian Redfort. Taking on the role of the Norse god Loki is Freddie Fox, brother to fellow actor Emilia Fox and cousin to Laurence Fox (though he's previously expressed his opposition to the latter's controversial political views). Slow Horses fans will remember him as the obnoxious James 'Spider' Webb in the first three seasons. He also appeared in House Of The Dragon season two as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and played Margaret Thatcher's son Mark in two episodes of season four of The Crown. Freddie's other recurring TV roles include The Great, White House Farm, Year Of The Rabbit and Cucumber, along with parts in movies like Black '47, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Pride. If you have strong feelings seeing Jack's face on your screen again, we don't blame you. The Irish actor joins the cast as the 'jester-like, hobgoblin' Puck, but he's best known for playing one of the most hated TV characters of all time, Joffrey Baratheon in Game Of Thrones. You might have also watched him in shows like The Famous Five, Safe Harbor, Sex Education and Out Of Her Mind. Douglas Booth joins season two as 'evangelical hedonist' Cluracan, who played Boy George in the TV film Worried About the Boy and Pip in a BBC adaptation of Great Expectations. He also previously appeared in Shoshana, Mary Shelley, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies and Jupiter Ascending. In 2017 he had a voice role in the acclaimed 2017 film Loving Vincent, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2018 Oscars. Another Norse addition to the cast is Clive Russell in the role of Odin, who Netflix describes as a 'wise, responsible, and a brilliant strategist'. The six foot six actor played the imposing Brynden 'Blackfish' Tully in Game Of Thrones, while his other former credits include Coronation Street, Neverwhere, Casualty, Code 404, Dracula, Ripper Street and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He also has a coincidental connection to the world of Norse gods, having played Tyr in 2013's Thor: The Dark World with Chris Hemsworth. The US actor and model joins The Sandman season two cast as driver Wanda. You might have seen Indya in the Ryan Murphy series Pose, but she also appeared in Queen & Slim and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, and in 2019 was recognised by Time in their list of 100 most influential people. The Irish actor appears in season two of The Sandman as Orpheus, previously starring in The Morning Show alongside Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. He's also been in The Spanish Princess (in which he played a young Henry VIII), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and Teen Spirit. Joining the season two cast in the role of Thor, Laurence's previous TV roles include the Netflix originals The Gentlemen, The Witcher: Blood Origin and Vikings. He's also another Game Of Thrones alum, appearing as House Bolton soldier Simpson in season five finale titled Mother's Mercy. Taking on the role of Delirium (youngest of the Endless) is Esmé Creed-Miles, who is best known for starring in the Amazon Prime Video series Hanna. She was also the voice of Cassandra in the animated TV series The Legend of Vox Machina, and appeared in the period thriller series The Doll Factory and the Harmony Korine film Mister Lonely. Described as a 'royal envoy from Faerie' Nuala is portrayed by Ann Skelly in season two.
