Supergirl is one of our underrated Netflix shows to watch this weekend. Here's why
Netflix is a remarkable thing when you step back and think about it. For many people, the streaming service has almost entirely replaced cable, offering an almost limitless array of shows that are worth checking out. If you find that that sea of choices is a bit more difficult to navigate than anticipated, you might be looking for some underrated titles that are worth considering. Thankfully, we've got you covered with these underrated shows, each of which is great and very different from the others: Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new shows to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, the best shows on Max, and the best shows on Disney+. Blue Eye Samurai (2023-) One of the best-animated series in the history of Netflix, Blue Eye Samurai tells the story of a female samurai who hides her gender while seeking revenge in Edo-era Japan. The show, which is set in a period in Japanese history when Westerners were strictly forbidden, is all about its central character's attempt to kill the man she suspects is her father. In addition to some incredibly inventive and gory action, Blue Eye Samurai is a show with a compelling and unconventional roster of central characters. Few shows are as confident or intricate as this show, and even fewer manage to stick the landing this well. You can watch Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix. Derry Girls (2018-2022) A hilarious, deeply endearing series about a group of Irish teenagers who are growing up against the backdrop of the Troubles in the 1990s, Derry Girls is another show that comes out of the gate with remarkable confidence. Its central quartet of young women are all offbeat, and crucially, each of them seems like they could really be an Irish teenager. Derry Girls has its share of small-scale dramas, but mostly, it's a show about how mundane life can be even when history is unfolding all around you. While you might want to turn subtitles on, Derry Girls is also a show jam-packed with genuinely excellent jokes. You can watch Derry Girls on Netflix. Supergirl (2015-2021) Supergirl existed in an era saturated with superhero content. Yet this show and its CW compatriots often felt like the closest to capturing the spirit of the comic books. The show starts as Kara Zor-El is just coming into her own and takes innumerable twists and turns over the course of its run. Thanks to the central performance of Melissa Benoist, the show managed to be exactly the right level of fun through much of its run. If you're hankering for Superman content ahead of the new movie, Supergirl might be the perfect show to binge. You can watch Supergirl on Netflix.

3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (June 27-29)
Choosing a new show can be a joyful experience, but only if you have a good sense of what you like to watch. If you're someone who struggles to pick new shows, then finding something worth watching on Netflix can be a deeply painful experience. If you want to avoid that pain, we've got you covered. We've selected three underrated or forgotten shows on Netflix that are well worth checking out, and each of them comes from a pretty different genre. Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new shows to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, the best shows on Max, and the best shows on Disney+. The Last Dance (2020) One of the greatest sports docuseries of all time, The Last Dance chronicles both Michael Jordan's last year with the Chicago Bulls and his career up until that point in great detail. The documentary is designed to cement Jordan's status as the greatest player in the history of the game. Although it's a documentary all about how insanely competitive Jordan was throughout his career, it's also remarkably insightful about the various grudges he held, the loss of his father, and how the Chicago Bulls became one of the defining dynasties in the history of the NBA. You can watch The Last Dance on Netflix. Big Mouth (2017-2025) A delightfully profane animated series about what it means to grow up, and more specifically about what it's like to go through puberty, Big Mouth is surprisingly intuitive. The show, which is anchored by voice performances from Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, follows a group of middle school students as their bodies begin to change, and they find themselves dealing with everything from uncontrollable urges to severe depression. Big Mouth was a show that could be about almost anything. Its willingness to get weird made it both hilarious and ultimately fairly smart about the ways puberty messes all of us up. You can watch Big Mouth on Netflix. Inventing Anna (2022) One of many miniseries that is based on a true story, Inventing Anna is fascinating in part because its central figure is so endlessly compelling. Anna Delvey, the Instagram heiress who charmed New York's elite and then stole all of their money, was a huge personality. Thankfully, Inventing Anna employed the considerable talents of Julia Garner to take on that central role. The result is a fascinating look at a woman who always seemed willing to change who she was or what she stood for to scam her way into or out of any situation. It's a little trashy, yes, but also undeniably fascinating. You can watch Inventing Anna on Netflix.

3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (June 20-22)
Watching shows on Netflix has become the way that many people wind down after long and stressful days. The trouble is that Netflix offers so many options that you might unwind by scrolling through the pages instead of actually picking something. If you'd like to avoid that problem, we're here to help. We've compiled a list of three underrated shows you can check out on the streaming service, with each offering something totally different. Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new shows to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, the best shows on Max, and the best shows on Disney+. BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) An animated horse cartoon doesn't necessarily scream excellence, but BoJack Horseman was one of the most acclaimed shows on Netflix. The series tells the story of a former sitcom actor who, while still wealthy, is now a narcissistic alcoholic who alienates everyone who tries to get close to him. The show explores BoJack's bad behavior and his attempts to improve over the course of six seasons, and it's one of the more inventive, fascinating shows they've ever produced. It's been over for five years, but now is the perfect time to check it out if you missed it back in the day. You can watch Bojack Horseman on Netflix. Good Girls (2018-2021) A brilliant show about three women who take control of their own lives, Good Girls follows two sisters and their best friend as they decide to hold up a grocery store to get each of them out of some financial difficulty. Because they're new to this whole 'doing crimes' thing, the holdup doesn't go perfectly. The trio realizes that the only way they can escape is by working together. Good Girls is hilarious, occasionally thought-provoking, and a wonderful showcase for its three central performers. You can watch Good Girls on Netflix. Narcos (2015-2017) Narcos was a phenomenon when it first aired, but that was almost a decade ago now. The series, which lasted just three seasons, tells the story of the rise of the cocaine trade in Colombia in the late 1980s and follows real-life drug kingpins, including Pablo Escobar. The show, which also followed law enforcement efforts to combat the drug trade, was often riveting drama and anchored by a slew of great actors. Narcos was the type of cop show that we rarely see, and its focus on a particular time period in history gave it the kind of heft few shows can fake. You can watch Narcos on Netflix.

3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (June 6-8)
Although Netflix constantly recommends the latest and greatest shows, you might be looking for something a little more underrated on the service. You're in luck if that's the case. We've pulled together three shows that are each very different, but all offer you something that Netflix might not naturally recommend. Netflix is filled with interesting stuff, and hopefully this list is an indication of all the options you have: Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new shows to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, the best shows on Max, and the best shows on Disney+. Six Feet Under (2001-2005) One of the great HBO shows of the early 2000s, Six Feet Under follows the family owners of a funeral parlor as they make death their family business. When a wayward son returns home to become a partner in the business after their father's death, they reckon with one another and the devastating loss. Six Feet Under is dark, funny, and ultimately one of the smartest shows ever written about the nature of human life and its ending. Six Feet Under is a show about the profound truth that death comes for us all and about what it means to face that reality. You can watch Six Feet Under on Netflix. GLOW (2017-2019) A remarkable, canceled-too-soon comedy series, GLOW is loosely based on the gorgeous ladies of wrestling. The show follows a group of women who become female wrestlers in Los Angeles and slowly come to realize just how empowering it can be to get in the ring. As they navigate their relationships to one another and their changing role as wrestlers, GLOW was never anything less than entertaining. Anchored by Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Mark Maron, GLOW was genuinely great, and it should have gotten the chance to end properly. You can watch GLOW on Netflix. Baby Reindeer (2024) A series that is at turns tense and hilarious, Baby Reindeer tells the story of a struggling comedian who finds out that he has a stalker. As he reckons with her adoration and tries to decide whether or not to encourage it, he begins to unpack trauma from his own past. Baby Reindeer is definitely a show in the mold of personal series from various comedians. In this case, the show can build tension because of the thrilling nature of its central story. Baby Reindeer is based on real events, although there's still plenty of dispute about how closely it hews to what actually happened. You can watch Baby Reindeer on Netflix.

3 underrated Netflix shows you should watch this weekend (May 30-June 1)
If you've ever wasted hours scrolling through Netflix looking for the perfect show to watch, you should know that you're not alone. It can be difficult to find exactly the right thing. Some shows are too long and don't have the right tone or vibe. Then, you wind up hoping to find something better. We've taken all the guesswork out of picking something to watch, though. With this list, we've picked three underrated shows with different tones and lengths, each of which is available on Netflix right now. You should check them out. Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new shows to stream this week, as well as the best shows on Netflix, the best shows on Hulu, the best shows on Amazon Prime Video, the best shows on Max, and the best shows on Disney+. Gangs of London (2020-) Everyone loves a gangster show, and Gangs of London is one of the best. The series follows a group of international crime families who converge on London in the aftermath of the assassination of a hugely powerful figure in the city's underworld. Although it's a sprawling story over three seasons, Gangs of London has also featured the kind of tension and action that few series can generate. That's likely thanks, at least in part, to the influence of Gareth Evans. However, it's also a function of the fast-paced writing of the series, which has continued to build momentum each season. You can watch Gangs of London on Netflix. The Pacific (2010) This less widely heralded younger brother of Band of Brothers is no less an accomplishment than the original series. The show is set in the Pacific Theater during World War II. It follows the lives of three soldiers as they battle their way across the Pacific during the entire war. With the backing of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, no expense was spared in the recreation of some of the most important battles of the war, but what's remarkable about The Pacific is how much time the show takes to remind us how young the men fighting this war were and how much it changed the course of their lives. You can watch The Pacific on Netflix. Supernatural (2005-2020) One of the longest-running shows in the history of sci-fi television, Supernatural went through many phases of life over the course of its 15 years on the air. At its core, the show was always about two brothers hunting monsters and fighting for each other no matter what life threw at them. Part of the show's brilliance comes from the way that circumstances around these two might change, but their personalities remain the same. No show can run for 15 years without being a great watch, and that's exactly what Supernatural is. You can watch Supernatural on Netflix.
