'From harvesting and field maintenance to transportation, processing and storage, each stage can impact Free Fatty Acid (FFA) levels, DOBI index and contaminant levels. We must raise standards across the board to secure global market access especialy to address the impact of the US tariff upon Malaysia.
'We are excited to work with MIMOS Malaysia, relevant ministries, government department, world-class researchers and innovators to future-proof our industry and empower smallholders and mill operators with cutting-edge tools,' he added.

SMM blasts ‘politically motivated' allegations surrounding viral photo, threatens legal action
Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd has refuted any wrongdoing arising from a photograph that has gone viral recently, saying it was taken during a working visit to Indonesia in August 2024. PETALING JAYA : Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) has threatened legal action against media outlets and others over the continued publication of 'false, misleading, and defamatory' allegations stemming from a now-viral photograph of its officials. In a statement addressing the photo which features current CEO Natasha Sim alongside several officials, the state-owned agency said: 'SMM unequivocally denies that any wrongdoing occurred.' It described the controversy as 'politically motivated' and part of a 'broader campaign to damage the company and its officers'. 'Should these baseless accusations continue to circulate, we will not hesitate to initiate legal action, including against media outlets for defamation and malicious falsehood,' the statement read. SMM noted that the allegations relate to an ongoing lawsuit involving Sim's predecessor, Jontih Enggihon, and businessman Albert Tei. The suit includes claims of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, tampering with official documents, and conspiracy to injure. 'The current wave of public allegations appears to recycle issues already under judicial scrutiny,' it said. It clarified that the photograph was taken during a working visit in August 2024 as part of foreign direct investment discussions with a mining conglomerate in Indonesia. The visit followed board approval in February 2024 and was led by Sim, then serving as chief strategy officer. It added that the first trip to the conglomerate's base had occurred in March 2023, and was initiated by Jontih as part of a due diligence exercise. The partnership was formally recommended to the board by Jontih in December 2023. On July 18, Malaysiakini reported that the now viral photograph had 'triggered a fresh political storm'. Apart from Sim, the photograph featured SMM secretary Emily Chong and Sabah timber tycoon Elbert Lim next to a private jet. The portal quoted Warisan assemblyman Justin Wong as claiming the photo had sparked a new scandal engulfing SMM.

Hajiji hoped that this award would serve as a strong motivation for the students to excel further and at the same time, help elevate the name of Sabah on the national and international stage. 'I would also like to remind all recipients not to let this award become a reason for complacency. Instead, let it be an aspiration to continue striving for excellence, in support of the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda and the national Madani vision. This includes being exemplary role models to their peers, not easily influenced by sentiments, excessive rhetoric, or matters that could ultimately harm our state and country,' he said. Among the scholarship recipients was Joyce Nicole Nicholas Mojugit, who is currently studying Foundation in Science at UiTM Dengkil, Selangor. 'This scholarship will ease my family's burden — from tuition fees to accommodation, airfare, and food,' said the former SMK Bahang Penampang student, who scored 9As in the SPM. She expressed her gratitude, sharing that her mother, a single parent raising three children, was extremely proud. 'I didn't even apply for this scholarship. I was in the middle of applying for the BKNS (State Government Scholarship) when my counselling teacher told me I had been selected,' she said. Joyce described her university experience as positive and shared advice for this year's SPM candidates: 'Make sure to get enough sleep. It's hard to focus without rest. All-nighters aren't sustainable — rest well to do well.' Another recipient, Azhar Azlin, who is pursuing foundation studies at Universiti Malaya and is a former SMK Majakir Papar student, said he felt deeply honoured. 'It makes all the hard work worth it. I'm thankful to my parents for their prayers and to my teachers. I know they're proud, even if they don't show it directly — I can feel it,' he said. Azhar also offered advice to other students, including his younger siblings: 'Have a purpose in your heart for why you're going to school, and never forget it. My motto has always been: 'Aim for the skies, so if you fall, it'll be on the mountaintops.'
