Renewed appeal for information around death of man in Co Monaghan hit and run
A fresh appeal for information has been made over the death of a man in a hit and run in Co Monaghan.
Gardai said Fintan Traynor, 20, had been walking home on a road close to the Irish border in the early hours of June 26 2011 after a night out in Castleblayney when he was struck by a car.
They said it happened on the Lemgare Road, which links the villages of Clontibret and Annyalla with Derrynoose and Keady in Co Armagh, and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, instead fleeing the scene.

Investigating gardai believe that an Audi A4, 1996 to 2001 model, was involved in this collision, and have issued a picture of the front lower portion of the grille of such a vehicle which was recovered at the scene.
While some 400 leads have been pursued over the last 14 years, the vehicle and driver have yet to be located.
Detective Inspector Adrian Durcan of the Monaghan Garda District has issued an public for information.
'I am appealing to the public that if they have any information to please come forward,' he said.
'With the passage of time, now perhaps someone may feel more comfortable coming forward with information in relation to this matter.

'Did someone confide in you?
'In 14 years loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps now you are in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the vehicle and driver.

Man remanded in custody accused of sitting driving theory tests for other people
A MAN HAS been remanded in custody after being charged with conspiring to pose as driving theory test candidates in a learner permit fraud. It follows an investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, which opened in March 2021 and targeted fraudulently obtained driving permits. Andre Contagariu, 26, with an address at Castlecurragh Park, Dublin 15, was arrested shortly before 7am this morning. The married father of two was then charged with two offences. It is alleged that between 14 September 2018 and 29 June 2021, he conspired with one or more persons to do an act that constitutes serious offences. The first was the unlawful use of a computer within the State by undergoing driver theory tests on behalf of third parties to obtain driver theory test pass certificates. According to the second conspiracy charge, he allegedly carried out deceptions over the same period 'by unlawfully undergoing driver theory tests in the names of third parties to induce the issue of driver theory test pass certificates' to make a gain or cause a loss to another by deception. Advertisement He appeared before Judge John Hughes at Dublin District Court today, where Detective Garda Barry McCormack gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. Judge Hughes heard the man 'made no reply' when charged. Due to the offence category, the High Court must decide if Mr Contagariu can be released on bail. Defence solicitor Sandra Frayne said her client, who did not address the proceedings, was seeking legal aid and had no income. The judge heard that Mr Contagariu was not getting social welfare and was supported by his family. Noting there was no Garda objection, he agreed to grant legal aid. Judge Hughes remanded the accused in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court for directions from the DPP on Thursday, 3 July. Woman (50s) convicted after threatening husband and verbally abusing daughter
The woman, aged in her 50s, pleaded guilty to three breaches of a protection order her husband had obtained against her in September 2024. A woman has been convicted and fined for repeatedly breaching a protection order granted in favour of her husband - with a judge warning of the long-term emotional impact on their child. She appeared before Judge Conor Fottrell at the District Court on Wednesday. The woman, aged in her 50s, pleaded guilty to three breaches of a protection order her husband had obtained against her in September 2024. Gardaí told the court that on one occasion in early October, at the family home, the woman shouted abusive language at her husband, calling him 'useless", "gay" and a 'f**kwit" - leaving him in fear. She also directed verbal abuse at their daughter, calling her 'an itinerant', 'fat' and a 'stupid slut' and shouted 'where are your sluts?', which also left the child in fear. After reading victim impact statements from both the husband and the couple's daughter, Judge Fottrell said the breaches were 'very serious matters' and that the court was 'particularly concerned about the emotional impact on the child". He noted the victim - her husband, had spoken 'with a heavy heart', and described the accused as 'obviously someone with personal difficulties". Defence counsel, Andrew Forde BL, said the woman had been married to the victim for a long period and was previously the main earner in the household but developed alcohol issues after being made redundant. She is now nine months into recovery and fully engaged with treatment at the Rutland Centre. Judge Fottrell said he was 'not convinced a custodial sentence was appropriate", given the woman's guilty plea, work history and ongoing efforts to address her issues. "I believe she has made efforts to turn things around,' he said. 'But the statement from her child provided to the court today was very concerning. I hope you've learned your lesson in all of this.'
