Messi became the fifth player in MLS history to record at least 35 goals and 25 assists over a two-year span, joining Robbie Keane (2013-14), Sebastian Giovinco (2015-16), Carlos Vela (2018-19), and Cucho Hernández (2023-24).
Miami scored two goals in three minutes midway through the first half to take the lead. Messi's beautiful pass to Jordi Alba tied it at 1-all in the 24th minute. Then Messi's lofted pass over the defense led to Segovia's first goal.
Messi scored on a breakaway in the 60th and he chested down Luis Suárez's pass for a left-footed blast in the 75th for his 18th goal of the season.
Miami (12-4-5) has dominated the past three matchups with the Red Bulls, winning 6-2 on May 3, 2024 and 4-1 on May 3, 2025.
New York (9-9-6) lost for just the second time at home this season, dropping to 8-2-2. The Red Bulls' 26 points through their first 11 home matches this season had ranked second in franchise history.
It was the most goals allowed by New York this season.

ARLINGTON, TX — Left-hander Tarik Skubal put the Detroit Tigers in a position to win, but when he was pulled from the game at 105 pitches with two outs and runners on the corners in the seventh inning, the Texas Rangers took advantage. The Rangers immediately tied the game. But the Tigers clawed back to snap a season-long six-game losing streak. The Tigers beat the Rangers, 2-1, on Sunday, July 20, in the finale of the three-game series at Globe Life Field, as Matt Vierling delivered the go-ahead hit in the eighth inning. It marked the Tigers' first win since July 8, and made them, at 60-40, the first MLB team to 60 wins. WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Key questions for Tigers after All-Star break, including the bullpen problem In the seventh inning, Skubal and Johan Heim battled for eight pitches with runners on the corners, following Adolis García's double and Kyle Higashioka's single. On the eighth pitch, Skubal ripped a changeup below the strike zone for a swinging strikeout. The eight-pitch battle brought Skubal's pitch count to 105. And it ended his 20th start. The Tigers turned to left-handed reliever Tyler Holton, but on his fourth pitch, he threw a changeup for a wild pitch that got away from catcher Dillon Dingler and rolled toward the Tigers' dugout, allowing García to score easily The wild pitch tied the game, 1-1. Caitlin Clark 'progressing,' but not expected to return for Fever's second-half opener on Tuesday
Caitlin Clark continues to have an uncertain timetable to return from her groin injury. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters Sunday that the Fever star is unlikely to play when the team resumes its season on Tuesday and that she will undergo additional testing, per ESPN's Alexa Philippou. White reportedly said the team hopes to have a more clear timeline after the testing. From ESPN: "I think she's progressing," White said. "I think that we're continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed ... I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time and let her get her evaluations early this week." Clark has been out since aggravating her groin injury last Tuesday, the latest frustration in a disappointing season so far for the WNBA's biggest ratings draw. She missed five games between May and June with a quad injury, then four games with the original groin injury in late June. The latest injury caused her to miss both the WNBA All-Star Game and 3-point contest, in which she figured to be the marquee attraction. The Fever hosted the All-Star festivities for the first time in the franchise's 26-year history and Clark's face was plastered throughout Indianapolis. With its namesake and starter Sabou Sabally out, Team Clark was blown out by Team Collier in the All-Star Game. New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu emerged victorious in the 3-point contest. At 12-11, the Fever sit in sixth-place in the overall WNBA standings, but are just a game and a half away from dropping out of the eight-team playoff field entirely. Indiana broke the league's longest playoff drought last year in Clark's historic rookie season, but was hoping to take a major step forward this year after the addition of veteran talent like Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham and DeWanna Bonner (not all of them worked out). It's hard to imagine a serious run for the Fever without a 100% Clark, and we should have a better idea of how feasible that is after her testing this week.
