Migrant exodus leaves Islamabad quiet
Islamabad, once a bustling city, has become quiet and peaceful as most of its residents have left for their hometowns to celebrate Eid with their families.
Major roads, such as the Islamabad Expressway and the Srinagar Highway, were seen nearly empty, with only a few vehicles being seen. The city's public transportation system, including buses and taxis, was also operating on a reduced schedule.
Many students who had been residing in the city for educational purposes also packed their bags and left for their native towns.
"I am excited to visit my home and celebrate Eid with my family," said a student at the Quaid-e-Azam University. "It is always special to spend Eid with loved ones."
The city's bus stations and Islamabad international airport were crowded with people leaving for their hometowns. Many were seen carrying gifts and sweets for their families, adding to the festive atmosphere, expressed another citizen.
Despite the deserted streets, the city's administration had ensured that essential services, including healthcare and security, remained operational during the Eid holidays.
"This is a time-honoured tradition for us," said a resident of Islamabad. "Every year, we make it a point to visit our ancestral hometown to celebrate Eid with our extended family and pay our respects to our forefathers." Many others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the significance of Eid as a time to reconnect with one's roots and heritage.

How Ariana Madix prepares for each ‘Love Island USA' episode
As the current season of Love Island USA continues, host Ariana Madix has shared how her on-camera styling is managed during filming in Fiji. Speaking to E! News, Madix explained that her appearance on the show is the result of advance planning and on-site coordination with her style team. Fittings take place before filming begins, followed by daily adjustments in collaboration with her stylist, makeup artist, and hairstylist. 'We are constantly sending each other inspo,' Madix said. 'Then once we get here, we pull the looks together and make it all work.' The team includes stylist Emily Men, makeup artist Krystal Dawn, and hairstylist Carl Bembridge, who reportedly traveled with about 70 pounds of hair tools and extensions to accommodate multiple styles over the course of the shoot. Madix also credited regular workouts and hydration as part of her routine while filming. 'I'm in the gym all the time… the gym is very important,' she noted. While the cast competes in the villa, Madix's evolving style has become part of the show's broader visual identity this season.

Khanpur Dam storage drops to critical level
A view of Khanpur Dam, which is a major source of drinking and irrigation water (right). PHOTOS: MUHAMMAD SADAQAT/FILE The water level at Khanpur Dam has dropped to just 9.67 feet above dead level, raising alarms about a looming crisis in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The dam now resembles a pond, with water levels falling from 1982 feet to 1919 feetjust 9 feet above the dead level of 1910 feet. According to an official, water supply for irrigation to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has already been suspended. Presently, Islamabad's CDA and Rawalpindi are receiving only 50 cusecs of water, which is also at risk of being halted. The dam's current inflow is 25 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 103 cusecs. Experts warn that if rains do not arrive soon, the decreasing water levels could lead to a severe drinking water crisis, impact aquatic life, and devastate agriculture in the surrounding areas. Orchards and canals in the Khanpur region have already dried up. In the event of prolonged drought, millions of residents in the twin cities could lose access to drinking water, and tourism in the Khanpur area may take a significant hit. During the three days of Eid, over 200,000 tourists visited the dam, with more than 50,000 vehicles arriving at the site, generating substantial revenue through parking fees. However, if the situation worsens, water-related activities and local employment tied to tourism could collapse.
