'Avatar' universe to expand with animated spin-off? James Cameron drops major hint

hinted that he might create an animated Avatar movie or spin-off series. In addition to completing the next installment of the sci-fi franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash, the 70-year-old director has now disclosed that he made a pitch to
Disney
for an animated spin-off series or movie.
"I said, 'Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that's essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn't have expected from that world," he explained in an interview with Empire magazine. 'There might even be an animated feature in there—it might be a feature for streaming or a theatrical feature."
The director of Terminator also mentioned that this Avatar project would be similar to The Animatrix, the animated anthology spin-off film from the Matrix series.
'A good early example is The Animatrix, where they went afield in the Matrix world," he stated. "These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar."
