Retired Dolphins OT Terron Armstead Compares Tua Tagovailoa to Drew Brees originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Star left tackle Terron Armstead retired this offseason after 12 seasons in the NFL, his first nine with the New Orleans Saints and final three with the Miami Dolphins. Armstead protected NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees for most of his tenure in the league before joining the Dolphins to finish out his career.

Now, Armstead is comparing former Dolphins teammate Tua Tagovailoa to the future Hall of Famer on the Rich Eisen Show, where he explained what characteristics he sees in the two.
"I see similarities,' Armstead said. The anticipation, the accuracy, timing of throws, the ability to knock a wing off a fly repeatedly. Those guys throw darts. They don't throw to areas, they are very precise. And that's an elite talent, it's an elite trait very few people possess."

Armstead pointed to Brees' injury history early in his career as a similarity to Tagovailoa. Brees was recovering from shoulder surgery heading into his sixth season, while Tagovailoa is coming off a season marred by another concussion and hip surgery.

After five seasons, both players reached one Pro Bowl, but Brees was not yet viewed as a Hall of Fame player, and the Dolphins' star is definitely not there yet either.
Armstead made sure to be clear that he was just pointing out similarities between two of his former quarterbacks.
"I'm not saying they're the same player or same person, no two people are," Armstead said.
This is an extremely important season for Tagovailoa and his head coach, Mike McDaniel, who have fallen short of expectations in recent years. If Armstead's comparison is correct, Tagovailoa could be in for a big season in 2025.

Steelers send T.J. Watt to Commanders in wild trade hypothetical

The Steelers–T.J. Watt contract woes could carry on for a while longer — but what if Pittsburgh refuses to play along and cuts their losses before an agreement is reached? That is precisely the scenario fantasized by Fox Sports' David Helman — who was tasked with finding the best landing spots for each of the NFL minicamp holdouts. According to Helman, while the idea of Pittsburgh sending Watt to the Commanders is highly unlikely, Washington's desperate need for a pass rush warrants the projection. He even acknowledged that trading star WR Terry McLaurin would open more 'financial wiggle room' for the Commanders to add a player of Watt's caliber. When discussing how the Steelers star defender would fit into the Commanders' defense, Helman argued the following: "Adding [Watt] to a pass rush that currently includes Frankie Luvu, Dorance Armstrong, Deatrich Wise, and Clelin Ferrell would upgrade the Washington pass rush from 'so-so' to outright dangerous." Watt could turn the Commanders into instant Super Bowl contenders — but unless Washington offered McLaurin and a haul of premium draft picks, trading away a future Hall of Fame defender feels like an on-field recipe for disaster — and a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Tyreek Hill ready to 'change the narrative' surrounding Dolphins

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, star Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill said it's time for Miami to change the storylines that surround the franchise. During a recent appearance on the "Glory Daze" podcast with Johnny Manziel from the Fanatics Fest in NYC, Hill commented on the urgency he feels heading into 2025. "This year as one of the leaders, I told the guys, it's time to change who we are as a team. It's time to change the narrative about we are not able to play in cold weather, we are not a physical team. So, I'm tired of that narrative. I'm tired of living behind not being able to go to the playoffs and win in Miami, because we got a damn good team. "We got a good quarterback, we got a good offensive lineman and we got some good coaches and we got some good people in the community who deserve to be a part of that. So, I feel like this is the year that we change all of that," Hill said. Trade talks have encompassed Miami cornerback Jalen Ramsey's offseason. During his podcast appearance with Manziel, Hill discussed how he was gearing up to put the "full court press" on recruiting Ramsey back to South Beach. Hill knows that Ramsey remaining with the Dolphins puts Miami in the best position to accomplish some of the team goals that Hill was talking about alongside Manziel. But, it's also because Hill doesn't want Ramsey to miss out on that moment when postseason success does happen for Miami. "I'm really hoping that we sign Jalen Ramsey back, because he's a great leader on the defensive side of the ball. And just being able to do something special in Miami and win a playoff game after 25 years, I think that's something that he doesn't want to miss out on. "We got to get to that. That's something that I talk to my Mom about every day. I take pride in that. Being one of the leaders on this team, I not only want to do it for myself, man, but I want to do it for the fans. I want to do it for the community of Miami, because it's special to me. I don't know, man. It's just something different about me. I just feel different. I just feel like if I don't do it, I'm basically just collecting a check, and I don't want to feel like that," Hill said. At times throughout the first two seasons of Mike McDaniel's run in Miami, it felt and looked like the Dolphins were primed to turn the postseason corner. But, Miami stumbled through a five-game losing streak late in the 2022 season. And then the Dolphins were without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in a 34-31 AFC Wild Card loss at Buffalo as Tagovailoa missed the final two games of the season with a second concussion. In 2023, the Dolphins raced out to a 5-1 record and put up 70 points in a Week 3 win over Denver. The Dolphins were 11-4 before dropping their final two regular season games at Baltimore and versus Buffalo. Miami's loss at Baltimore was a laugher, 56-19. Then, at a frosty Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Miami suffered a 26-7 loss against the Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round once more. At the time, it was the Dolphins' 11th straight loss when game-time temps were 40 degrees or less. In 2024, Tagovailoa's injury absences dug the Dolphins too deep a hole to climb out of as Miami finished 8-9. Now, with 2025 training camp nearing, Hill seems locked back in to steering the Dolphins to a place they haven't been in 25 years.

Bengals' flopping 1st-round picks called out in re-draft effort

The Cincinnati Bengals aren't getting much out of their first-round picks of late. Dax Hill, the first-rounder from 2022, has yet to find a home in the secondary. Myles Murphy, from 2023, has yet to step up as a pass-rusher. Amarius Mims from 2024, at least, showed major promise, but he can only reach the lofty upside if he can remain on the field. As such, the Bengals often go dramatically new routes in re-draft efforts. The latest example comes from Bleacher Report's Matt Holder, who tabbed Murphy as the team's worst draft pick of the last few years and instead has them taking defensive back Brian Branch: 'Coincidentally, this pick is a replacement for the other 'bust' mentioned above, Hill. The Michigan product was drafted so high because he's a defensive back who has safety and cornerback versatility, which is the role Branch has become a Pro Bowler in with the Lions.' RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route Hindsight is 20-20, of course. Branch, the 45th pick in 2023, made the Pro Bowl last year after putting up 109 total tackles. He's totaled seven interceptions over two seasons, too, with 29 passes defended. The Bengals still have big hopes for Hill now that he's playing cornerback. But safety remains a weak point on the roster, as does the pass-rush not named Trey Hendrickson.
