Meet Jo Yu-ri, who plays Player 222 in Netflix's Squid Game: the 23-year-old K-pop singer is a former member of Iz*One, and rose to fame after starring in the survival show, Produce 48
In the Netflix show's second episode, audiences watch Kim Jun-hee, aka Player 222 (played by 23-year-old Jo Yu-ri, also known as Yuri), giving birth in the middle of the game. Many viewers found the scene both unnecessary and unrealistic. 'How actually ridiculous is Squid Game? Like, who can give birth to a whole child in five minutes? (Not a metaphor – her water broke in the middle of a life-or-death game and she literally popped the baby out, just like that),' wrote one user on X.
Despite the criticism, Yuri's emotional performance throughout the episodes highlight her promising career as an actress.

Why Jurassic World Rebirth screenwriter David Koepp doesn't like a world ‘too big'
An eyeball, big, yellowish and distinctly inhuman, stares raptly between wooden slats, part of a large crate. The eye darts from side to side quickly, alert as hell. Advertisement So begins David Koepp's script to 1993's Jurassic Park. Like much of Koepp's writing, it is crisply terse and intensely visual. It does not tell the director – in this case Steven Spielberg – where to put the camera, but it nearly does. 'I asked Steven before we started: 'What are the limitations about what I can write?'' Koepp recalls. 'CGI hadn't really been invented yet. He said: 'Only your imagination.'' In the 32 years since penning the adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel, Koepp has established himself as one of Hollywood's top screenwriters, not through the boundlessness of his imagination but by his expertise in limiting it. Koepp is the master of the 'bottle' movie – films hemmed in by a single location or condensed time frame. From David Fincher's Panic Room (2002) to Steven Soderbergh's Presence (2024), he excels at corralling stories into uncluttered movie narratives. Advertisement

Why pickle juice is a trending cocktail ingredient, from margaritas to martinis
If you have a cocktail scene in your neck of the woods, you might have noticed the words 'pickle juice' appearing more often on drink menus. Advertisement Pickles and pickle brine have been ingredients that mixologists – and chefs – have played with for a long time, but they are finally getting a star turn in drinks menus around the world. Pickle juice is salty, tangy, acidic and sometimes a little spicy. It adds zing to all kinds of cocktails. 'Pickles are a great gateway into savoury cocktails,' says Camille Goldstein, managing partner of Muddling Memories, a hospitality company based in Brooklyn, in New York, that promotes drinks as an experience. 'The sweet-salty brine of a pickle really creates an interesting depth of flavour for your margarita, martini or even a highball,' she says. A pickleback is basically a shot of whiskey with a pickle brine chaser. Photo: Shutterstock A drink called the pickleback has been popular for years. Said to have originated at a Brooklyn bar called Bushwick Country Club, it consists of a shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle brine. Word spread.
