There's weird memorabilia, and then there's this.
Willie Mays' personally worn and signed boxer shorts are currently up for sale in the Lelands Summer Classic Auction, for those who want to do a lot of explaining about what's on display in their home.
The signed white Hanes underwear auction will go through Aug. 16, but the leading bid as of early Saturday afternoon is $125 for the legendary undergarments.

'Mays used to wear a baseball cap a size too small so that the cap would dramatically fly off when he was chasing a fly ball or careening around the bases. There is no evidence that he likewise worn his underwear a size too small,' the lot description says.
'The offered underwear has a 'Hanes' manufacturer's tag on the back of the elastic band at the waist. This tag has machine printing showing a size S [small], for a 30/32 waist, very trim for such a power hitter. The tag also indicates that the underwear is '100% cotton.' The underwear has a pouch fly.

'Each leg of the underwear measures 12′ from the top of the waist elastic to the bottom of the leg. On the front of the elastic is '24 Mays 24,' and on the back of the elastic is 24,' all written in black marker by an unknown hand. On the inside back waist elastic, Mays has signed 'Willie Mays,' in blue marker. The signature darkness is somewhat uneven, as some parts of the signature are clearly apparent, but lighter in tone than other parts. The underwear seems to show use, yet it remains in very good condition.'

Mays, who died last summer, is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, having been elected to the Hall of Fame after winning two MVPs during his time with the Giants — both the New York and San Francisco versions — before ending his career with the Mets in 1973.
So this could be an unconventional way to get an autograph if a ball or jersey feels expensive.

'Remember, this is not just underwear; it's Willie Mays' underwear,' the description goes on. 'If you are searching for an unusual addition to your sports collection, one that your friends will almost assuredly not possess, one that will create interest and spark some humorous repartee, this is it!'

RB Jonathan Ward to sign with Giants

The Giants are signing veteran running back Jonathan Ward, Jordan Schultz reports. Ward worked out for the team Monday. The Giants need depth at the position with minor injuries to rookie Cam Skattebo (hamstring) and undrafted rookie Rushawn Baker (knee). Ward, 27, spent last season with the Steelers and played 10 offensive snaps and 59 on special teams. He had five carries for 22 yards. He also has played games for the Cardinals and Titans and has totaled 28 touches for 143 yards and a touchdown in his career.

New York Giants training camp: 5 takeaways from Day 10

The New York Giants were back out on the practice field on Monday at their 2025 training camp in East Rutherford as they begin preparing for their preseason opener this coming Saturday afternoon against the Bills in Buffalo. The weather was, again, notable with a high heat index and smoke from Canadian wildfires moving into the area. Here are five takeaways from Monday's activities. Final practice open to the public Monday's workout will be the Giants' final practice that will be open to the public. They have one more event the public can attend this summer, and that is next Wednesday's joint practice with the Jets. Starters could play some snaps on Saturday Head coach Brian Daboll did not rule out the prospect of some starters seeing action in Saturday afternoon's preseason opener in Buffalo. Wilson is providing much-needed leadership Free-agent quarterback Russell Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, has brought a wave of maturity. professionalism and leadership to the Giants' locker room and huddle this summer. Nabers is putting on a show at camp We know wide receiver Malik Nabers is one of the NFL's rising young stars, but is he ever off? He always seems to be on. This camp, he's simply making these workouts his personal playground. Detractors will say the Giants' subpar secondary is making Nabers look great this summer, but every play? It appears that the second-year stud is just really that good. Hyatt getting more involved in the offense One of the top storylines this summer is the prospect of former third-round pick Jalin Hyatt finally fulfilling his promise as a top target in the passing game. Hyatt gained significant weight this offseason, and his participation in private workouts with Wilson and others has his profile on an uptick. After a slow start at camp due to leg cramps, Hyatt is balling out in drills.

Keith Hernandez takes weight jab at Pablo Sandoval: ‘Didn't do the push-ups from the dinner table'

Pablo Sandoval hasn't been in MLB since 2021, but that didn't stop his long-standing issues with weight from becoming a topic on the Mets broadcast. Mets great Keith Hernandez and play-by-play man Gary Cohen began talking about Sandoval after a trivia question about San Francisco's World Series MVPs in the 2010s. 'He always had the weight issues,' Hernandez said of Sandoval on the SNY broadcast of Sunday's Mets-Giants game at Citi Field. 'He just fell off a cliff, but he had some big years for the Giants. Didn't he go to the Red Sox? Just kind of bombed out there. He came back [to the Giants] and didn't do the push-ups from the dinner table.' Advertisement Sandoval, nicknamed Kung Fu Panda, was World Series MVP with the Giants in 2012 after hitting .500 with three homers and four RBIs in a dominant sweep of the Tigers. Weight was an issue for Sandoval throughout his career, but it became a major storyline when he signed a five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox ahead of the 2015 season and showed up for spring training overweight. Moments after Hernandez made his comments in the top of the third inning, Giants DH Rafael Devers crushed a three-run homer, and San Francisco went on to rout the Mets, 12-4.
