Wings get crucial DiJonai Carrington injury update for Mystics clash
The Dallas Wings are coming into their Sunday matchup with the Washington Mystics a little bit short-handed. The recent injury to Maddy Siegrist, along with the Eurobasket absences of Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder, leave the Wings without key players in their rotation. But it appears as if they dodged another blow. DiJonai Carrington did appear on the Wings' injury report, but it seems as if she will be a go.

DiJonai Carrington was officially listed as probable (rib) on the Wings' injury report ahead of the team's game against the Mystics, as per Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. Her status suggests that the Wings will have a key player in the lineup on Sunday. Carrington had recently moved to the bench, but she's been a strong veteran leader for the young Wings.
This is Carrington's first season with the Wings after spending the first four seasons of her career with the Connecticut Sun. She's appeared in all 14 games for the Wings this season, including 12 starts, at a little over 26 minutes per game. She's been averaging 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals with splits of 35.6 percent shooting from the field, 28.9 percent shooting from the three-point line and 82.6 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Carrington was originally selected by the Sun with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. When Carrington was acquired by the Wings in an offseason sign-and-trade deal, she was reunited with Chris Koclanes who as an assistant coach with the Sun her first two seasons in the league. Koclanes was hired as the Wings' head coach this year.
Last season, Carrington won the Most Improved Player Award while making the All-Defensive Team and finishing fourth in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

The Wings have started off the 2025 season at a disappointing 3-11, but they have won two consecutive games coming into Sunday's matchup against the Mystics.

Luka Doncic has gelled well on the court with LeBron James and Austin Reaves during their short time as teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, but NBA insider John Gambadoro claims all is not well. On the latest episode of the Burns and Gambo Show, Gambadoro stated that James and Reaves do not like playing with Doncic. "LeBron does not like playing with Luka," Gambadoro said. "Reaves does not like playing with Luka. Reaves does not like getting the ball with two seconds left on the shot clock. LeBron is not fond of playing with Luka. The Lakers are going to turn their attention to build around Luka, not LeBron. "So, this is Luka's team now," Gambadoro added. "... He'll probably come back, but I wouldn't say it's a guaranteed no-brainer LeBron comes back to the Lakers because there are guys that don't like playing with Luka." Gambadoro also wondered if James is struggling to handle the fact that a teammate of his is now the top dog for the first time in his career. All of this is quite interesting considering we haven't heard anything prior to this about any sort of discontent between them. James has spoken glowingly of Doncic's game and has never really thrown shade at his teammate at any point. The 40-year-old has done that to others in the past, but not to him. As for Reaves, a deeper look at his numbers suggests he should have liked playing with Doncic. In the games he played without the Slovenian this past season, he averaged 19.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game while shooting 45% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc. When Doncic was playing alongside him, Reaves averaged 21.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. He was more efficient, too, shooting 47.9% from the field and 40.2% from beyond the arc. There were some concerns that Doncic's arrival might hurt Reaves on offense, but that hasn't been the case. The five-time All-Star has instead made life easier on the court for Reaves, as evidenced by those numbers. The only problem when it comes to these two playing together is that they're both not great defenders. The Minnesota Timberwolves repeatedly hunted them in the first round of the playoffs, and that contributed to the Lakers getting eliminated in five games. Reaves, however, dismissed those defensive concerns regarding himself and Doncic. He thinks the two of them, along with James, will create chaos next season. It's unclear if these three will be playing together in 2025-26, though. At first, there was talk about Reaves being traded this offseason as he could potentially hit free agency in 2026. It is expected that he will ask for a deal worth nearly $30 million per year, and that would be a significant financial commitment. That trade talk has died down a bit now, though, and James is now the one potentially headed to the exit door. NBA insider Shams Charania stated that he could leave the Lakers if he doesn't think they can compete for a title. Doncic looks to be the only one guaranteed to be with the Lakers long-term. UPenn still acknowledges Lia Thomas records in update after resolution with Education Department
The University of Pennsylvania took swift action on Tuesday to adhere to the resolution agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights after an investigation found that UPenn violated Title IX during the 2021-22 season because of the inclusion of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. As part of that resolution, UPenn agreed to restore individual titles and records to those female athletes that were "misappropriated by male athletes allowed to compete in female categories." However, while the university's website was updated to remove Thomas' name from a trio of records the former swimmer set during that season, the website still acknowledged Thomas' record with a note regarding NCAA eligibility rules at the time. "NOTE: Competing under eligibility rules in effect at the time, Lia Thomas set program records in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle during the 2021-22 season," the annotation read. Thomas became the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I title. During competition, Thomas set multiple individual records, including the 500-yard freestyle race which resulted in a national title. According to UPenn's website, Anna Kalandadze's record of 4:37.21 set in 2024 in the 500 free was restored as the new record. Kayla Fu, a freshman at UPenn, had her 2025 record in the 100 free restored as the new record. Additionally, former UPenn swimmer Virginia Burns, who set the 200 free record with a time of 1:45.51 in 2017, had her record restored as the top time. The Education Department previously launched an investigation into UPenn on Feb. 6. The Trump administration later froze $175 million in funding for the school on March 20 for failing to comply with an executive order. Then, on April 28, the Education Department's Office of Civil Rights announced its investigation concluded that UPenn did violate Title IX in its handling of the Thomas situation. As a result of this week's resolution agreement, UPenn agreed to restore records and issue apologies to female athletes impacted by those violations. "While Penn's policies during the 2021-2022 swim season were in accordance with NCAA eligibility rules at the time, we acknowledge that some student-athletes were disadvantaged by these rules," Penn President J. Larry Jameson said in a statement released by the university on Tuesday. "We recognize this and will apologize to those who experienced a competitive disadvantage or experienced anxiety because of the policies in effect at the time."
