narrowly avoided landing in trouble with the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the third Test at Lord's after a small but noticeable breach of clothing regulations.
Just before the start of play, during the national anthems, the Indian captain was spotted wearing a red vest under his white jersey.
According to Article 19.44 of the ICC's clothing and equipment code for Test matches, any visible undergarments beneath the shirt must be white.
Coloured vests or undershirts are strictly not allowed to be seen.

Fortunately for Gill, he quickly realised the issue. As the teams lined up for the first session, he discreetly buttoned up his shirt to cover the red vest — effectively resolving the breach before play began.
The ICC closely monitors such details, and players can face penalties even for seemingly minor infractions, especially when the colour is visible to the naked eye.

This isn't the first time the young skipper has found himself on the edge of a clothing-related violation. During the first Test at Headingley, Gill was seen wearing black socks, which also do not meet ICC's clothing standards for Test matches. However, he corrected the mistake by switching to white socks the following day, again avoiding any disciplinary action.
Gill's awareness and prompt action helped him dodge a possible sanction from the ICC on both occasions. While they may seem like minor oversights, the rules are enforced seriously, especially in the traditional format of the game

Steeplechaser Sable fails to finish in Monaco Diamond League
MONACO: Indian steeplechaser Avinash Sable failed to finish the 3000m race after suffering a nasty fall while the country's latest sprint sensation Animesh Kujur continued his growing stature on the international circuit by ending a creditable fourth, in the Under-23 200m event at the Monaco Diamond League here. Olympian and national record holder Sable was expecting a top-5 finish in his favourite event but suffered an injury following a nasty fall quite early in the race. Sable, 30, who has already qualified for the Tokyo World Championships in September, has not hit his best form this year, finishing 13th and eighth in his previous two Diamond League appearances. Soufiane el Bakkali of Morocco won the race in a time of 8:01.18 seconds while Ryuji Miura of Japan was second clocking 8:03.43 in a field of 19 runners. Kenya's Edmund Serim was third (8:04.00 seconds). Meanwhile, Kujur came up with another inspired showing in the Under-23 200m event, clocking 20.55 seconds.

India Football Federation confirms ISL put on hold, awaits Supreme Court nod on rights agreement
The All India Football Federation in a statemetn on Saturday confirmed that the 2025-26 season of the Indian Super League (ISL) has been put on hold while the body. It noted that the negotiations regarding Master Rights Agreement - the main contract between AIFF and Football Sports Development Limited (league's operator) - have been in abeyance since Supreme Court's order in April. The body, however, assured that it will take all possible steps in its power to ensure the continuity of ISL. 'The AIFF and its stakeholders will take all possible steps, and do all things within their power, to ensure continuity of the ISL in the best interests of Indian football. We request the understanding of all stakeholders in the interim.' AIFF said in its statement.
