4 tornadoes confirmed near Minneapolis after storms move through region
Tornado sirens woke up Minnesota residents on June 29 after several small tornadoes were spotted south of Minneapolis.
Early Sunday morning, from 12:15-12:45 a.m. local time, four tornadoes were spotted in Carver County, Minnesota, located southwest of Minneapolis, Mike Griesinger, a lead forecaster with the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, told USA TODAY.
The tornadoes were short-lived, with winds of 80 to 90 mph.
One structure was damaged, but the storms were weak and mainly caused damage to trees, Griesinger said.

While small tornadoes are not expected to occur again, the area may experience thunderstorms on Sunday, according to Griesinger. But the storms could be pushed to Wisconsin by a weak front.
The confirmed tornadoes in Minnesota on Sunday come on the heels of a heat wave that broke daily record high temperatures across the Midwest and eastern part of the U.S.
On Saturday, June 28, "all severe hazards" were possible across southern Minnesota and eastern South Dakota as scattered thunderstorms moved over the region, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
The Minnesota tornadoes did not cause extensive property damage, but Griesinger said this is a great reminder of why people should have multiple forms of warning about incoming tornadoes, even at night.
While tornado alarms did sound throughout the county, there are other ways to be informed about severe weather.
Minneapolis residents can sign up for Smart911 alerts to receive notifications about severe weather via the following methods, according to the City of Minneapolis' website.

Mindy Fire scorches over 73 acres in remote Riverside County

Riverside firefighters battle growing Mandalay fire; residents ordered to flee
A four-alarm vegetation fire was burning in the city of Riverside on Sunday afternoon, consuming more than 60 acres by 4:30 p.m. and spurring evacuations, officials said. The fire had caused heavy, drifting smoke, which had prompted 911 calls from concerned residents, the Riverside Fire Department said on Facebook. Mandatory evacuations were in place for an area of the city north of Arlington Avenue, south of the Santa Ana River Trail, east of Mitchell Avenue and Valley Drive, and west of Jurupa and Crest avenues. An evacuation center was set to open at La Sierra Senior Center, at 5215 La Sierra Ave., the Riverside Police Department said in a Facebook post at 4:10 p.m. Officers were assisting with traffic control and had closed Tyler Street between Arlington and Jurupa avenues including all surrounding side streets. Firefighters battling 60-acre brush fire near Banning
Riverside County firefighters are battling a quickly-growing brush fire burning in the hills near Banning. It was first reported at around 3 p.m. in the area of the Wolfskill Truck Trail, located near old Banning and Idyllwild Road, according to Riverside County Fire Department crews. They arrived at the scene to find the fire burning at a moderate rate of spread through vegetation. At the time of arrival, they said the blaze had already burned around 20 acres. By 4 p.m. they said the fire was over 60 acres. Multiple water-dropping aircraft were dispatched to assist with the battle. The cause of the fire is unknown.
