Dan Campbell Sends Warning To Rest Of NFL Entering 2025
Dan Campbell's Detroit Lions still have another hurdle to clear in 2025.
The Lions continued their franchise turnaround by going 15-2 with the NFL's top scoring offense last year, but their most triumphant season in franchise history ended in a second-round playoff loss to the Washington Commanders. Detroit has still never played in a Super Bowl.

Campbell wants to end that drought and avenge last season's swift playoff exit with a title run.
"We're out to finish what we started," Campbell said Monday, per Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. "We're going to close out some of these debts."
The league took notice of Detroit's success and ransacked Campbell's coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn landed head coaching jobs with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, respectively.

Former Denver Broncos pass game coordinator John Morton replaces Johnson, and the Lions promoted linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to fill Glenn's former job.

All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is confident in Morton and Sheppard handling their new roles.
"It's not like we're going from Ben and AG to some coaches that don't know anything," St. Brown said. "Don't act like we're bringing in a scrub. These coaches know ball."
Those changes could still jeopardize Detroit's status as a legitimate championship contender in 2025. The Lions lost another vital piece when Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow retired.

Amid much change, Campbell returns for his fifth season as head coach. Their record has improved each year, but the next step is competing for the Lombardi Trophy.
"We're going to do what we do here from Dan more than anybody else — he's the top of the brain trust," wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery said. "Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. If it is, the complacency will kill you."
Campbell's new staff won't get an easy adjustment period, as the Lions open the regular season with NFC North clashes against the Green Bay Packers and Johnson's Bears before facing the Baltimore Ravens on the road.

Raducanu downs Sakkari to reach last four in DC
Emma Raducanu has booked her place in the semi-final of the Washington Open for the first-time with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Greece's Maria Sakkari. The victory, on a day where both players had to battle high temperatures, means Raducanu will overtake Aussie star Alex de Minau's partner Katie Boulter as British No.1 on Monday. After losing the opening game, Raducanu dropped serve in a long second but managed to break straight back. The 22-year-old broke again to make it 4-3 courtesy of a scuffed dropped-volley effort by Sakkari, who fought back once more following another double fault by the Briton. After getting her nose in front again, Raducanu held her serve to take the opening set 6-4. Breakthrough 🔥@EmmaRaducanu knocks out former runner-up Sakkari, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the Washington final four for the first time. #MubadalaCitiDCOpen — wta (@WTA) July 25, 2025 The 22-year-old was looking to continue her impressive streak over the Greek player on her 30th birthday but Sakkari - who beat Boulter earlier in the competition - took a 4-2 lead in the second set. Temperatures of up to 36 degrees took their toll as a physio was called onto the court to check on the 2021 US Open winner. However, the break in play reinvigorated Raducanu - who overcame four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka on Thursday - and she won five successive games to book her slot in the final four in two hours and 10 minutes. "I think my confidence has been building since Miami," she told the WTA. "The amount of work I'm doing behind the scenes, to have that in the locker and banked, you know you've done it, it takes a little pressure off the results." Raducanu will face either fourth seed Clara Tauson or Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the final.

NFL players, employees fined for selling Super Bowl tickets: reports
More than 100 NFL players and dozens of club employees are to be fined or suspended for selling their allocations of tickets for this year's Super Bowl on secondary markets, US media reported on Friday. ESPN reported that players who sold allotted tickets will be fined one-and-a-half times the face value of the tickets sold and be barred from receiving tickets to the next two editions of the Super Bowl. Players amongst those caught will be given the option of purchasing tickets if their team reaches the Super Bowl in 2026 or 2027. Players who decline to pay the fines face being suspended, ESPN cited league and union sources as saying. ESPN quoted an NFL memo sent to teams which said employees and players had sold tickets to "bundlers" working with a ticket resale site. Tickets to the Super Bowl are consistently one of the hottest -- and most expensive -- tickets in North American sport, fetching as much as $10,000 on resale sites. "Our initial investigation has determined that a number of NFL players and coaches, employed by several NFL Clubs, sold Super Bowl tickets for more than the ticket's face value in violation of the policy," NFL chief compliance officer Sabrina Perel wrote in the memo. Perel cited "long-standing league policy" which "prohibits League or club employees, including players, from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than the ticket's face value or for an amount greater than the employee originally paid for the ticket, whichever is less." Perel added that the league will enhance mandatory training before Super Bowl LX for all league personnel to emphasize the rules and "the broader principle that no one should profit personally from their NFL affiliation at the expense of our fans." The league, meanwhile, also planned to improve training to avoid a repeat, with the possibility of stiffer sanctions for future offenses. "No one should profit personally from their NFL affiliation at the expense of our fans," Perel wrote in the memo. rcw/js
