'Not our player' – Chiefs boss breaks silence on Percy Tau snub
The 31-year-old forward is now a free agent after leaving Qatar in May. In June, he was heavily linked with Amakhosi, but nothing materialised.
During an interview with Robert Marawa, Tau admitted that he would be keen to join Kaizer Chiefs if the right offer were made. In terms of numbers, the former Brighton and Hove forward said anything around R450 000 per month can be enough.
Motaung though pointed out that when a player starts talking about money before the club approaches, the player is not suited for Chiefs.
'Our industry is funny. When you want a player and when we start talking (and) you start talking about money first, he's not coming to our club. That's not your player,' Motaung said on Smash Sports YouTube Channel.
'When you love the game, money will come. If you say, 'This is the club I want to play for' (we'll discuss other things later).
The Chiefs boss felt tha when a player talks money first, he no longer plays for the love of the game.
'But if you start off by saying, 'How much are you giving me?' That person is no longer playing for the game. The industry taught me that. The issue of salary… Yes, you need money, I need to pay school fees, maintanance, but the thing of loving people, sacrifice is hard. It's something deep. If you don't have the right spirit, you can run away or quit,' Motaung added.
Besides Tau, Kaizer Chiefs were also linked to several Bafana Bafana stars like Mihlali Mayambela and Fawaaz Basadien.

'They don't have a goalkeeper' – Khanye questions Chiefs' transfer priorities
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has questioned Amakhosi's decision not to sign more goalkeepers. At the moment, the Glamour Boys don't have a number one keeper and in the last 12 months, they have been switching from Fiacre Ntwari, Brandon Petersen, to Bruce Bvuma. During the current pre-season, Chiefs have signed six in-field players. Khanye though, feels his former team need to bring in a quality goalkeeper and a back-up. He feels that the three keepers at the club are not good enough. Amakhosi had three goalkeepers last season and they all got a chance to play but conceded 32 goals in the league. 'They should be signing in the important position, a goalkeeper,' the former winger told iDiski Times. 'A very important position, they were supposed to sign a goalkeeper. I see all the signings and Nabi is he okay having a pre-season with Kaizer Chiefs thinking his problem is wing-backs? It's a question that's why I'm asking,' Khanye added. 'The goalkeeper position, the guy just overlooked that and signed wing-backs. It's a question I'm asking myself. So it means he attacks with wing-backs? That he realised that his problem is at wing-back that he needs one at right and left but he doesn't have a goalkeeper. 'Chiefs have signed but they still haven't signed a goalkeeper not even a back-up because you don't need one goalkeeper, you also need a back-up. They have a crisis in that department. They don't have two goalkeepers. In a position that's so important, they don't have a goalkeeper.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
