Former central London celebrity hotspot to become clay pigeon shooting ground
Developers have applied to turn 77 Brewer Street near Piccadilly Circus into a restaurant and 'competitive socialising' ground, which will see customers use real deactivated shotguns to shoot virtual targets.
The venue would occupy the huge subterranean space next to Brasserie Zedel in what was once the Regent Palace Hotel. In 2008 it was redeveloped and the Art Deco restaurant known as Titanic moved from the ground floor into the basement.
Most recently it was the widely criticised 'immersive' Batman-themed restaurant Park Row, which closed last year, and previously it had been home to Mash steakhouse. It is now vacant.
Pierre White's Titanic restaurant and club was open from just December 2008 to January 2002. It became well known as a celebrity hangout, with Noel Gallagher, the Spice Girls, actor Billy Zane, Natalie Appleton and supermodels Sophie Dhal and Sophie Anderton pictured partying there.
The Soho Society has objected to the new plans for the space, which will include a restaurant with space for up to 550 covers.
In a submission to Westminster council a spokesman for the group, which represents people who live and work in the area, said: 'There is a growing concern regarding the overconcentration of bar and leisure establishments in the area...The potential for increased alcohol consumption, even with a focus on food, raises public health and safety concerns.
'It is vital to consider the implications this may have on local crime rates and community safety.'
The Metropolitan Police said it initially had concerns about firearms being at the site, which is in an area with high crime rates and where 'organised crime gangs target intoxicated tourists'.
But in a submission to the Westminster town hall, an officer added: 'The applicant has given a full appraisal of the weapons and how they have been decommissioned and stored.
'The relevant decommissioning certificates have been reviewed and the Met Firearms team have been consulted and we are happy that the guns pose no risk to the public.
'The applicant has gone above and beyond ensuring the equipment is stored safely and they have all been fitted with a tracking device to ensure they are traceable should they be stolen or lost while out for maintenance.'
Clays, which also runs virtual shooting experiences in Canary Wharf and the City, was granted a licence for the venue last year. Planning permission for the Brewer Street site will be decided by councillors on Tuesday.

Tim Burton's Batman Returns To Theatres This Month At A Very Limited Capacity
The fan-favourite Tim Burton-directed Batman films, Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), are returning to theatres for a one-night stand in August. The iconic Tim Burton-directed Batman films are making a big return to theatres. In a report from Variety, it has been announced that Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) will make another theatrical run on August 25. The films have been recognized as the first foray into the darker portrayals of Batman, with instantly memorable performances from Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito being exalted for their portrayals of the DC Comics ensemble. The films will be featured in their re-released remastered theatre production versions, and the films will be hosted at over 160 Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres locations across the U.S. This marks the first time both films will be presented in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. As a reminder of what's in store for fans, the 1989 film's trailer can be seen below. In a statement on the re-releases, Tim Burton said, 'I hadn't watched these films since I made them, and seeing them again with this level of clarity, beauty, colour, and sound felt really new and exciting,' adding, 'Dolby Atmos and Vision brought it all to life in a fresh way.' President of Global Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures, Jeff Goldstein, agrees with Burton, saying, 'Tim Burton's acclaimed Batman films deliver a dark, iconic vision of Gotham City that continues to influence the modern superhero genre today. With their advancements over the past decades, Dolby now transforms these beloved classics into completely new cinematic experiences through Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, delivering unprecedented visual and audio fidelity.' Interestingly enough, Tim Burton's Batman Returns was the first feature-length film to be released in Dolby Digital back in 1992, giving audiences everywhere the first exposure to what fans know as surround sound in 2025. The film re-releases serve as features that show how far the film industry has come in over three decades since both films first landed in theatres. The Batman and Batman Returns double feature lands on August 25, and AMC locations showing the films can be found listed here. Solve the daily Crossword

‘Batman' and ‘Casper' Are Coming Back to Theaters
This fall, the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy is coming back to theaters, and they won't be alone. In the weeks and months ahead, fellow re-releases will include Tim Burton's Batman duology and 1995's Casper. In the former's case, both 1989's Batman and 1992's Batman Returns will be a special, one-night event on August 25. Over 160 Dolby Cinema at AMC Theaters locations will play the two movies, and it looks like AMC's putting enough enough distance between them for you to watch them in one go. At the time of its release, Returns was the first feature film to ever be released in Dolby Digital, which began what we now know as surround sound. This'll be the first time either movie has been presented in Dolby Vision or Atmos. Tickets for the two movies can be purchased here and here. Meanwhile, Casper returns to the big screen for its 30th anniversary this past May. The horror-comedy will play in theaters from October 3 to Halloween, a perfect kid-focused horror movie for the season. When it came out, it was the first movie to ever feature a fully CGI character in the lead role. You can grab advance tickets here. So for the re-release heads, that's Batman and its sequel on August 25, the Spider-Man movies on September 26, and Casper on October 3. And if that weren't enough, Disney's already locked down the original Star Wars to come back to theaters for its 50th anniversary on April 30, 2027. James Gunn once again confirms that Robert Pattinson's Batman won't be part of the DCU, and I'm pretty disappointed
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. James Gunn has once again confirmed that the DCU Batman won't be Robert Pattinson – and I'm still disappointed. "We've talked about it before, but it's not what's happening right now," Gunn told Entertainment Tonight. "Everything's in flux, so we'll figure out what we're doing next." Before Superman, I was pretty opposed to the concept of Pattinson's Batman joining the main DCU, because I loved The Batman so much I didn't want to muddy the waters with a crossover. But, after watching the first DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters movie, the idea of seeing Pattinson's grim Dark Knight teaming up with David Corenswet's optimistic Supes really grew on me. So, I'm fairly sad that it doesn't seem to be on the cards. Still, I am looking forward to the DCU's Batman project, which is titled The Brave and the Bold and will feature Batman and the Damian Wayne version of Robin. "There's really no new updates," Gunn told us recently of the movie. "I mean, we're working on a script. We have a screenwriter who's hammering away at it. I'm very involved, and so, you know, we'll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don't." The Batman 2, meanwhile, is due in October 2027. The latest update on the Elseworlds movie is that Matt Reeves has turned in the script. Next up for the DCU is Peacemaker season 2, which arrives next month. The next theatrical release is Supergirl, which is landing next year. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming DC movies and shows for everything else the studio has in store.
