Canada's Michelle Plouffe announces retirement after career with women's, 3x3 national teams teams
The 32-year-old from Edmonton was part of Canada's women's basketball teams at the 2012 London Games and 2016 Rio Olympics, also helping the program win back-to-back FIBA AmeriCup championships in 2015 and 2017.
She then shifted to 3x3 basketball, where she played — alongside her twin sister Katherine Plouffe — a big role in building the Canadian program from the ground up.
Plouffe led Canada to multiple FIBA 3x3 Women's Series titles, a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, and a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics.
She is now set to join Canada Basketball's high-performance staff as 3x3 performance manager.
Plouffe will be honoured during the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series stop in Edmonton on Aug. 2.
"This journey has always been more than just playing basketball," Plouffe said in a release. "It's been about people, purpose, planting seeds and watching them grow."
"We never set out to be the best team in the world — we set out to be the best people to play with," Plouffe added. "And we believed the rest would follow. You don't plant fruit. You plant seeds. We planted encouragement. We planted trust. We planted love. That's what grew."

Candace Parker calls effort in WNBA All-Star Game 'awful'
Seven-time WNBA All-Star Candace Parker was unimpressed by the effort in the All-Star Game. Parker criticized the game on a podcast that aired Wednesday, calling it 'awful.' 'Y'all cannot come out there with those shirts of 'Pay Us What You Owe Us' and then do that,' Parker told All-Star Aliyah Boston on their new podcast 'Post Moves.' Parker was referencing the warmup shirts both teams wore at the July 19 game in response to failed collective-bargaining negotiations with the league earlier that week. Players are fighting for higher pay and better benefits, among other improvements. The game set a WNBA All-Star record for points scored and Napheesa Collier set the individual scoring mark with 36 points. Team Collier beat Team Clark 151-131. Defense was at a minimum as the league's stars allowed each other to get shots up without contest. It wasn't unlike the all-star games across other pro leagues, but Parker was looking for more from WNBA players at a time when they're in the spotlight. 'I think on one of the biggest stages, in an All-Star setting that was invested in more than any other All-Star game previously. … I think it would've really maximized the moment.' Fever forward Boston, who played on Team Clark, defended the performance of her and her peers. 'An All-Star Game, where we have another game in two days, I think that it's OK to just go out there and hoop and have some fun,' she said. Lady Vols basketball schedule 2025-26: Non-conference games in Kim Caldwell's second season
Lady Vols basketball announced its nonconference schedule for the 2025-26 season on Aug. 1, which only includes five home games. Tennessee will play five nonconference games on the road and two at neutral sites. Including SEC play, the Lady Vols will 14 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament. That also includes every team from the Final Four – Tennessee will play UCLA, UConn and South Carolina on the road and host Texas. "Including our conference opponents, our schedule includes the top six teams and 10 of the top 20-ranked programs in the early preseason polls," Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said in a school release. "We have our work cut out for us, but I believe our challenging non-conference opponents will better prepare us for what we're going to see in the Southeastern Conference. "We're a little out of balance in terms of home and away ranked opponents, and that's something that takes some time to even out. We'll continue to work on it going forward, but I think this year it will allow us to really test our players and get them ready for conference play." The nonconference slate took a step up in strength of schedule from Caldwell's first season. Tennessee only faced three power conference opponents during the 2024-25 nonconference schedule, and it will face five during the 2025-26 season. UT also only played one true nonconference road game last season. The Lady Vols will open the season Nov. 4 against NC State in Greensboro, North Carolina. They will also make their return to the Women's Champions Classic in Brooklyn, New York, on Dec. 20 where they'll face Louisville. UT's fifth power conference opponent in nonconference play is at Stanford on Dec. 3 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. Tennessee has 10 matchups with teams in ESPN's Top 25 including SEC play. South Carolina is the highest-ranked team in ESPN's projected rankings at No. 1 and UConn is the highest-ranked nonconference opponent at No. 2. The nonconference slate includes four matchups with in-state opponents. The Lady Vols will face MTSU and UT Martin on the road and Belmont and ETSU at home.
