Chirag Paswan criticises own government in Bihar: 'Gopal Khemka's murder worrying'
"If such an incident happens in a posh locality of Patna, then we can only imagine what is happening in villages," Chirag Paswan, whose Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is part of the NDA government in Bihar and at the Centre, said.
Paswan called Gopal Khemka's murder "worrying" and said strict action needs to be taken to set a precedent.

'It is worrying to see such incidents occur under a government that was known for good governance; then the opposition will have a chance to speak up. Strict action needs to be taken to set a precedent so that such a thing is not repeated,' Paswan said.
The statement comes following the killing of Bihar-based businessman Gopal Khemka outside his house in Gandhi Maidan locality at 11.40 pm on Friday.
Khemka, who was reportedly associated with the BJP, was shot dead by an unidentified armed assailant when he was about to alight from his car. Khemka's murder comes seven years after miscreants had gunned down his son in Hajipur.
Following the murder, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar convened a meeting on Saturday to review the law and order situation and instructed officials concerned to complete the investigation into the killing of Khemka at the earliest.

Opposition leaders, including RJD's Tejashwi Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, also attacked the Nitish government over the law and order situation in the state.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the incident has once again proven that the BJP and CM Nitish Kumar have together made Bihar the "crime capital of India". The Congress leader also asserted that in the upcoming polls, the vote will not be just to change the government, but to save the state.
Tejashwi also attacked the NDA government saying that law and order has collapsed in Bihar and went on to claim that the state has witnessed "65,000 murders" in the last couple of decades.

‘If Nishads don't get SC quota soon, BJP may face difficulties in 2027 polls': UP Minister
WHEN THE BJP can resolve all difficult issues – be it Article 370 or building the Ram Temple in Ayodhya – what is holding it back from providing Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation to the Nishad community, the ruling party's ally and Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad told The Indian Express. The state Fisheries Minister, who is also the NISHAD Party chief, said the BJP should fulfil the long-pending demand soon or it may face 'difficulties' in the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Nishads, a boating and fishing community, are currently counted among the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the state. 'The thing is that the BJP has found solutions to all difficult issues, be it Article 370 or 10 per cent upper caste reservation (for the economically backward in general category) even when it was not promised in the Constitution, women reservation and even on the topic of faith i.e. construction of Ram Temple. So what is keeping it from fulfilling its promise to the fishermen community?' said Nishad. The minister said the BJP had promised SC reservation to Nishad sub-castes because of which he aligned with it but now it is becoming difficult for him to convince his community about the long delay despite being in the government. 'We are only part of the government, that is all. Actual decision-making lies with the BJP, which had come out with its separate vision for the Nishad community…,' he said. 'BJP yahi kehke layi thi, SP aur BSP ne galat kiya. Par jo Bhagwan ko paar utarne wale hain, weh apna hissa mang rahe hain. The delay in giving SC quota to the Nishads, Sanjay Nishad said, had resulted in the shifting of votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as the community fell for the 'false promises of the SP'. And if this continued, it would make things difficult for the BJP and allies in the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, he said. 'The Nishad community constitutes 18 per cent of Uttar Pradesh. They voted for us in 2019 on this promise. But in 2024, the INDIA bloc was able to take their votes with false promises and if this continues then the community would distance itself,' he said. 'BJP jaldi ise door kare nahi to 2027 mein mushkil ho sakta hai (The BJP should resolve this soon or there might be difficulties in 2027).' In the 2022 Assembly elections, the NISHAD party, in alliance with BJP, was able to win six Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh but failed to win a single seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Nishad community is primarily found in regions alongside rivers, especially in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh, including areas surrounding Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, and Varanasi, among others.

Rajasthan Congress decides to not ally with BAP for panchayat polls
The Opposition Congress in Rajasthan has started preparations for the local body and panchayat elections. In a coordination committee meeting held on July 5, the party has decided to contest the polls 'on its own' and not enter into an alliance with the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) in the tribal-dominated Vagad region, unlike in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Founded in 2023 by Rajkumar Roat ahead of the State Assembly election, BAP emerged victorious in three seats in the Assembly poll that year and won one seat in the by-election in 2024, taking its tally in the Assembly to four. Concerned about the inroads made by BAP in the region, the Congress is now promoting its own Other Backward Class (OBC) leaders in its organisational activities. 'The Congress is strengthening [its] organisation in the Vagad region. The leaders and party workers who wish to come back after leaving [the party] will need to explain why they had deserted the Congress,' said AICC State in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra said the booth-level agents would be appointed within a week to monitor the voter list revision. Congress has also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of deliberately delaying the polls. Mr. Dotasra on Monday said that the State government had appointed the OBC Commission after 18 months in office to meet the Supreme Court-mandated condition for a survey before giving reservation in the municipal elections. 'The pending OBC report will be used as an excuse to postpone the polls,' he said. The party plans to launch protests across the State over the BJP's alleged misuse of constitutional provisions. AICC co-incharges Ritvik Makwana and Chiranjeevi Rao, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tika Ram Jully, and other State leaders also attended the strategy meeting.
