Ranvir Shorey slams Raj Thackeray's MNS for slapping shopkeeper, questions CM Fadnavis over law & order: ‘Monsters...'

Actor Ranvir Shorey slammed Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for slapping a shopkeeper in Mumbai's Mira Road for not speaking in Marathi.
He also questioned Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the law and order situation in the state.
Sharing the viral video of MNS workers slapping the elderly man, Shorey said the incident 'is sickening.' 'Monsters on the loose, looking for attention and political relevance,' he said, slamming the MNS.
The actor tagged CM Fadnavis and asked, 'Where's L&O?' Ranvir Shorey's tweet
Ranvir Shorey was reacting to a news clip about a group of men, reportedly MNS workers, assaulting a shop owner for refusing to speak in Marathi on Tuesday in the Bhayander area of Maharashtra's Thane.
The viral video showed that the men slapped the shop owner several times after he was asked, 'Which language is spoken in the state?'
The shop owner's response, who was talking in Hindi, that 'all languages' infuriated the men who had visited his shop to buy food, as reported by PTI.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after the Maharashtra government withdrew its orders on implementing the three-language policy in the state, which led to the opposition describing it as a 'Hindi imposition'.
Following the Mira Road incident, MNS workers allegedly assaulted a man in Pune's Vanaz area for posting objectionable content against party chief Raj Thackeray on social media.
According to a Pune Times Mirror report, the man, identified as Kedar Soman, was tracked down by the MNS workers after he shared a post on social media criticising Raj Thackeray.
He was allegedly beaten up by the MNS workers and later handed over to the police. The incident caused temporary tension in the area, prompting police intervention.
Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam also reacted to MNS workers slapping the shopkeeper and said that laws will be enforced if anyone disrespects the language in the state.
'In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi... If anyone disrespects Marathi in Maharashtra, we will enforce our laws,' Kadam told ANI.

Bihar electoral rolls revision: No change in instructions on procedure, clarifies EC

The Election Commission on Sunday clarified that there was 'no change in instructions' on the special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar. Earlier in the day, the office of the Bihar chief electoral officer had said that all measures were being taken to facilitate voters to complete their documentation as part of the revision exercise. 'These existing voters will have time to submit the documents even after first submitting their Enumeration Forms,' the chief electoral officer had said. The chief electoral officer had issued public notices in Hindi newspapers on Sunday saying that if voters were unable to submit their documents, they could submit only enumeration forms to block-level officers. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge claimed on X that the Election Commission published the advertisements in response to pressure from the Opposition and civil society. 'When faced with public opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party cleverly takes a step back,' he claimed. — Mallikarjun Kharge (@kharge) July 6, 2025 In a clarification on Sunday evening, the poll panel said that the revision of voter rolls was being carried out as per an order issued on June 24, and that there had been no change in instructions since then. 'The electors can submit their documents any time before July 25, 2025,' the Election Commission said. 'After publication of draft Electoral Rolls, if any document is deficient, [electoral registration officers] can obtain such documents, from the electors whose name appears in the draft Electoral Rolls, during scrutiny in the Claims and Objection period.' The Election Commission said that till 6 pm on Sunday, it had received the enumeration forms of 1,69,49,408 voters, or 21.46% of the voting population. It added that 7.25% of the forms had been uploaded on the commission's ECINET app. No one was satisfied with current voter rolls: EC chief Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday defended the ongoing special intensive revision of Bihar's electoral rolls, claiming that the exercise had to carried out as no one was satisfied with the current voter rolls, The Hindu reported. Kumar said that in the past four months, electoral registration officers, district election officers and all 36 chief electoral officers in the country held nearly 5,000 meetings with 28,000 political party representatives. 'The EC has also invited all recognised political parties for interaction,' he said, according to The Hindu. 'No one was satisfied with the current status of electoral rolls for one reason or the other.' Revision of electoral rolls The special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar was announced by the Election Commission on June 24, ahead of the Assembly elections expected to be held in the state in October or November. As part of the exercise, persons whose names were not on the 2003 voter list will need to submit proof of eligibility to vote. This means that 2.9 crore out of the state's 7.8 crore voters – or about 37% of the electors – will have to submit documentary evidence. The special intensive revision guidelines issued earlier stated that the voters born before July 1, 1987, must show proof of their date and place of birth, while those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, must also submit documents establishing the date and place of birth of one of their parents. Those born after December 2, 2004, will need proof of date of birth for themselves and both parents. If the officers are satisfied with the details provided, the voters will be re-enrolled to a new voter list by electoral registration officers. If not, they will be removed from the voter lists. A draft roll will be published on August 1 and the final roll will be out on September 30. disenfranchising more than 2.5 crore voters, as they may not be able to produce the necessary documents.

The Congress party slammed BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and said her comments on the flood situation in Himachal Pradesh were "insensitive". The Congress party on Sunday slammed BJP Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, after she paid a visit to her rain-ravaged constituency and said that she does not have any official Cabinet to provide disaster relief. Terming the remarks by the actor-politician 'insensitive", the Congress opined that Kangana should show sensitivity to the situation in Himachal Pradesh and those affected by floods and landslides. In an X post, the Congress shared a byte by Kangana and wrote, 'In Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, a cloudburst has caused massive destruction. People are distressed, their everything has been ruined." 'Mandi's MP Kangana arrived there after several days and, laughing, said- 'What can I do, I don't have a cabinet position'. Please show some sensitivity, Kangana ji," a rough translation of the party's post in Hindi suggested. हिमाचल प्रदेश के मंडी में बादल फटने से भारी तबाही हुई है. लोग परेशान हैं, उनका सब कुछ उजड़ गया है.मंडी की सांसद कंगना कई दिन बाद वहां पहुंचीं और हंसते हुए कहा- 'मैं क्या कर सकती हूं, मेरे पास कैबिनेट तो है नहीं' कुछ तो संवेदना दिखाइए कंगना जी — Congress (@INCIndia) July 6, 2025 WHAT KANGANA RANAUT SAID Addressing reporters over the situation in Mandi, Kangana said, 'I don't have any official cabinet when it comes to disaster relief or the disaster itself." 'I have my two brothers who are always with me. That's my cabinet. So, it's just these two," she added. 'The relief and restoration works have to be done by the state government, and as an MP, I can only apprise the Prime Minister and the Home Minister about the situation and seek liberal assistance," Ranaut told reporters. 'We are the link between the state and the central government, instrumental in getting projects from the centre to the state and raising issues and grievances of our constituencies with the centre," she said. 'How the state government is functioning, I can say that Congress will not come to power in the state for the next 20 years," she added. Earlier, in an X post, Kangana wrote, 'It is heartbreaking to see massive flood devastation in Himachal almost every year now. I tried reaching the flood-affected areas in Seraj and other areas in Mandi, but was advised by the respected Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur to wait until the connectivity to the affected areas is restored." Kangana took stock of the situation in Mandi on Sunday and asserted that the way relief work is being undertaken, the Congress will not return to power in the state in even 20 years. She also said that as an MP, she could only apprise the prime minister of the situation. 'I am deeply pained to see the plight of the people. They have lost family members, houses have been washed away, several people are still missing, but we can only console the families who have lost their kin, and now it is time to provide relief."
