When will Rey Mysterio return to in-ring competition after being injured? WWE expert Dave Meltzer has an update
Dave Meltzer sheds light on Rey Mysterio's future
Dave Meltzer, the founder of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, is one of the most respected names in pro wrestling journalism. The veteran analyst specialises in covering the WWE and frequently shares his frank opinions on the product on social media. Speaking to Indiatimes, he revealed that Rey Mysterio is expected to return to in-ring competition in August. This suggests that he is likely to miss SummerSlam, which is slated to be held on August 2 and August 3.
Rey Mysterio tore his groin and busted his eardrum right before WrestleMania 41 in April. The groin injury occurred during a tag match on SmackDown. He also injured his eardrum around the same time. He later underwent surgery for the same. This injury forced him to miss WrestleMania 41, where he was to take on El Grande Americano in a grudge match. He was replaced by Rey Fenix in the bout, who lost.
Rey Mysterio made his unofficial return to WWE programming at Worlds Collide in June and appeared during the opening segment. He, however, was not cleared to compete at the event.
Is a Rey Mysterio-Penta feud on the cards?
Penta has emerged as WWE's resident 'Luchador No 1' in Rey Mysterio's absence. The former AEW star even main evented Raw recently when he took on Seth Rollins in a losing effort. Penta squared off with Rey Mysterio in the Royal Rumble match and held his own against the veteran. It remains to be seen if the two lock horns or cross paths again once the 'Master of the 619' , who is being advertised for Survivor Series this November, returns to in-ring competition. He may also resume his feud with El Grande Americano.

Watch: George Kittle dropkicks WWE star The Miz on golf course in shocking moment
George Kittle's Golf Course MELTDOWN Ends in Brutal Knockout Kick (Image via Getty) Look, George Kittle plays football like he belongs in a wrestling ring so it's honestly no surprise that when he hit the golf course this weekend, the 49ers star tight end went full WWE . No, seriously. In the middle of a celebrity tournament, Kittle channeled his inner Shawn Michaels and literally drop-kicked WWE legend The Miz to the ground. And no, this wasn't some bar fight gone wrong, it was a hilariously staged moment that instantly blew up online. George Kittle shocked fans by 'knocking out' The Miz with a perfect WWE kick on the green The moment happened at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, which is known more for celebrity laughs than viral hits. But George Kittle had other plans. Dressed for the course but wired for chaos, the 49ers star lined up a kick and blasted The Miz with a textbook 'Sweet Chin Music' right in front of the cameras. The Miz, ever the pro, sold it like a true WWE champ and collapsed in dramatic fashion. For fans watching live or catching the clip online, it looked like Kittle had just laid someone out for real until they realized it was a full-on wrestling stunt. The Miz and Kittle's viral moment had WWE fans and NFL die-hards buzzing This wasn't just a goofy moment between friends, it was a perfectly executed WWE homage. Kittle, who's a self-declared WWE superfan, has made multiple appearances at wrestling events before (and even got involved in WrestleMania 39), so this wasn't out of left field. The Miz, of course, played along like the showman he is. The video instantly racked up views across X and Instagram. Some fans joked that Kittle had 'finally chosen his real career path,' while others begged WWE to sign him immediately. This isn't the first time George Kittle has leaned into his WWE dreams If you've followed Kittle for even five minutes, you know this wasn't just a one-time thing. He's made it very clear that WWE is on his post-NFL wishlist. And after this latest viral kick, it feels like the wrestling world is practically inviting him in. In fact, WWE fans are already dreaming of a future 'Miz vs. Kittle' storyline, maybe even a celebrity match someday. Based on how clean that kick was, he might be more ready than people thought. George Kittle didn't just swing a golf club this weekend, he swung for entertainment gold. That WWE-style takedown of The Miz was playful, perfectly timed, and viral-ready. It showed off his wild personality, his love for the wrestling world, and gave fans the ultimate crossover they never knew they needed. If this is what Kittle does on the golf course, we can only imagine what happens next time he walks into a WWE ring. Did WWE spoil Goldberg's retirement match at SNME
Goldberg during his final match. 5-timeime WWE World Champion, Goldberg officially announced his retirement at the end of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event. He bid adieu to the WWE Universe in front of his family and people of his hometown at Atlanta. But the end of this illustrious career was rather shambolic and left a sour taste among the diehard fans of the former WCW Champion, who is also a WWE Hall of Famer. Here are five reasons why Goldberg deserved a better swansong from WWE 1. SNME was not even televised Unlike other big PLE's of WWE, the Saturday Night's main Event which had the Gunther versus Goldberg match for the World Heavyweight Championship, (Goldberg's last match) was not telecasted on Netflix and rather streamed live on the official YouTube channel of WWE. Goldberg definitely deserved a full-fledged PLE and a live broadcast on Netflix in the final match of his two-and-a-half-decade long WWE career, instead of being meekly streamed live on YouTube. 2. Making him lose his last match Yes, it would have been a big deal if Goldberg had actually defeated Gunther for the World Championship, yet if it had to be his last match in WWE, the former five-time World Champion definitely deserved a win to end on a happy note. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? How to get Internet without paying a subscription? Techno Mag Learn More Undo Even if the WWE did not want to put a belt on Goldberg, then they should have at least made Goldberg fight some other big name in the WWE and made him win his last match. Goldberg, for long had been known as the epitome of victory in WCW and WWE and seeing him lose his final match, was heartbreaking for his diehard fans. 3. His 'Goodbye Speech' was cut short abruptly While Goldberg was announcing his retirement after the end of his match against Gunther, at Saturday Night's Main Event, his final speech was cut short due to lack of time and hard schedule. This was really uncalled for on the part of the management, especially considering this was the well-deserved deserved retirement speech for the WWE Hall of Famer. 4. The way he lost the match Gunther vs. Goldberg | World Heavyweight Title Match: Saturday Night's Main Event, July 12, 2025 Gunther put the legendary Goldberg in his signature 'Sleeper Hold' and made the WWE Hall of Famer pass out to retain his World Championship. This can be considered one of the worst ways for Goldberg to say goodbye to his fans who have seen him winning everything and anything on his way in WWE and WCW. Even if the WWE had to make Gunther win this match, a pin fall would have been a more respectable way to make Goldberg lose his parting match in WWE. 5. Losing his final match at his hometown Another blunder, the WWE made around the retirement of Goldberg, was making him lose his swansong match at his hometown, Atlanta, in front of his family and friends. Firstly, Goldberg should not have lost this match in front of his hometown people. Secondly, if he had to put Gunther over, another city or another event would have been apt to do so, rather than making his mockery in his hometown.
