Mickey Moniak, Antonio Senzatela lead Rockies past D-backs

Reuters22-06-2025
June 22 - Mickey Moniak homered, Antonio Senzatela pitched solidly into the sixth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 on Sunday in Denver.
Senzatela (3-10) allowed a pair of runs over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win for the second straight start. Senzatela had gone nine games (eight starts) without a win before beating Washington on Tuesday night.
Seth Halvorsen got the final three outs to pick up his sixth save. He was the last of five pitchers that held Arizona to five hits.
Randal Grichuk had two hits and Josh Naylor scored both runs for the D-backs on his 28th birthday. Arizona had its three-game winning streak snapped and managed just two runs after scoring 19 over the first two games of the series.
The D-backs had a season-high 21 hits on Friday night and 10 more Saturday night but were held to one extra-base hit on Sunday.
They threatened in the ninth when Grichuk hit a two-out double off the wall in right, but Halvorsen got pinch hitter Ketel Marte to fly out to end the game.
Arizona took the lead in the second when Naylor walked, Eugenio Suarez doubled and Grichuk hit a sacrifice fly. Grichuk helped extend the lead in the fourth as Naylor hit a one-out single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Grichuk's single.
Brandon Pfaadt held Colorado to two singles through four innings but was hit hard in the fifth.
Brenton Doyle, Kyle Farmer and Braxton Fulford led off with consecutive singles to make it 2-1. Pfaadt retired the next two batters before Moniak followed with a home run just inside the foul pole in right field to put the Rockies in front. It was Moniak's 11th of the season and sixth over his last 11 games.
Pfaadt (8-5) walked Jordan Beck but got out of the inning to end his day. He allowed four runs on six hits and struck out seven over five innings.

Indiana Fever president deletes social media account after being slammed by fans for bizarre Caitlin Clark comment

Indiana Fever president Kelly Krauskopf has reportedly deleted her X account and is laying low after fans took exception to a bizarre comment she made about Caitlin Clark. The Fever are in a rough patch of form and some fans have been looking for any excuse to throw shade at the front office. In a recent press conference, Krauskopf gave her detractors some perfect material, when she claimed she wanted to make the Fever 'as big as Apple', with some believing she put star player Clark down in the process. Speaking to the media, the president of basketball and business operations in Indiana said: 'We want to sustain the growth and the interest level in the franchise. I mean this is about the Indiana Fever. 'Yes, we have a foundational players in Caitlin Clark... and Aliyah Boston, and we're going to add to that. But I want this team to be a leader in the country, and an enduring brand... like Apple or something. We have a real opportunity here.' Fans immediately jumped on the comment, with one claiming: 'Enduring brands lean into their visionary. Apple became a global icon by making Steve Jobs both its visionary and its star.' Fans have claimed she is 'fumbling' Indiana's opportunity of having the biggest name in the W Another added: '95% of your brand is Caitlin Clark,' and a third said: 'They are fumbling this opportunity so hard. I think CC goes overseas and becomes the global superstar she could be if things don't shift by the end of her contract.' A fourth summed up fans' feelings by posting: 'Kelly... I'd say 75% of Fever fans go where Caitlin goes. Get mad at me, but the moment CC leaves Indy is the moment I quit buying Fever tickets. This is so stupid, she has no idea how to capitalize on the moment properly. You build around CC. She is the brand right now.' Seemingly in a bid to get away from the blowback to her comments, by Friday night Krauskopf had deleted her X account altogether, with an error message in its place. As of Friday night, the Fever president had deleted her account on the social media site X A win against the Atlanta Dream took the Fever's record back to .500 for the season, with 10 wins and 10 losses - but it has been far from plain sailing. Clark has, at times, been injured, and in recent days has struggled for form on the court, with her teammates stepping up instead. Kelsey Mitchell had 25 points and three assists on Friday, while Aliyah Boston had 19 points and Sophie Cunningham contributed 16 off the bench.

Adolis Garcia, Wyatt Langford homer to lead Rangers past Astros

July 12 - Adolis Garcia and Wyatt Langford clubbed home runs while Jack Leiter pitched effectively into the sixth inning as the visiting Texas Rangers banged out a 7-3 victory over the suddenly reeling Houston Astros on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. The Rangers improved to 4-4 on their season-long, 10-game homestand. They did so by pouncing on Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (2-4), who continued to struggle with inconsistency following his return from a two-season injury absence. McCullers labored through a 36-pitch top of the first inning and never fully recovered. Langford extended the opening frame with an infield single that loaded the bases with two outs and set the table for Evan Carter, whose two-run single got the Rangers on the board. Carter claimed he was hit by a McCullers pitch earlier in that same at-bat, but Texas lost its replay challenge. After limiting the damage to a pair of runs in the first and working around a one-out walk in the second, McCullers came undone in the third. Garcia blasted a 425-foot home run to straightaway center with one out in the frame, extending the lead to 3-1 with his 12th homer. The Rangers then delivered another timely two-out hit, this one coming from Jonah Heim, whose double eluded Astros right fielder Cam Smith and scored Carter and Jake Burger. Heim was erased trying to reach third on the hit, but the damage was done. McCullers allowed five runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over three innings. Leiter (5-6) allowed a run-scoring groundout to Christian Walker in the bottom of the first and a two-run homer to Victor Caratini in the fourth that pulled the Astros to within 5-3. But Leiter ended the second, fourth and fifth innings with strikeouts, all on called third strikes. He allowed three runs on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Langford socked a two-run homer, his 15th, off Astros reliever Ryan Gusto in the seventh. The Astros have dropped four consecutive home games following a 5-1 road trip that put them a season-high 20 games over .500. --Field Level Media

Sean Murphy goes yard twice, Braves stave off Cardinals

July 12 - Sean Murphy hit two homers and drove in three runs as the visiting Atlanta Braves edged the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 Friday night. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run for the Braves. Atlanta third baseman Austin Riley went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run before departing the game in the fourth inning due to lower abdominal tightness. Braves starter Grant Holmes allowed five runs on nine hits in three innings. Five Atlanta relievers combined to blank the Cardinals for the last six innings. Enyel De Los Santos (3-2) earned the victory and Raisel Iglesias earned his 10th save. Pedro Pages drove in two runs for the Cardinals and Alec Burleson hit two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run. Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado exited after six innings due to a sprained right index finger. St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore (6-7) allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk in three innings. Atlanta jumped to a 3-0 first-inning lead against him. Acuna led off the game with a double, moved up on a one-out wild pitch and scored on Riley's single. Murphy followed with a 437-foot homer. The Cardinals responded in their half of the inning. Brendan Donovan hit a single, took second on a groundout and scored on Burleson's double. Willson Contreras hit an RBI single to cut Atlanta's lead to 3-2. The Braves pushed their lead to 4-2 in the second inning when Michael Harris II hit a double and scored on Acuna's single. Atlanta's lead grew to 6-2 in the third. Murphy hit his second homer, a 440-foot shot for his 15th of the season, then Jurickson Profar hit a double and scored on Drake Baldwin's single. After a walk and a bunt put two runners in scoring position, Baldwin was thrown out at home trying to score on a fly ball. In the bottom of the inning the Cardinals loaded the bases with Burleson's double and two walks. Pages hit a two-run single, and Victor Scott II hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-5. --Field Level Media
