Traffic cop killed in crash while trailing rider

KUALA LUMPUR: A traffic policeman was killed early this morning in an accident while on duty during Op Samseng Jalanan here.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the victim, identified as Lance Corporal Muhammad Amirul Aiman Muhammad Othman, 24, died at the scene of the crash at about 4.40am after losing control of his motorcycle near Jalan Tun Razak.
"At the time of the incident, he and another officer were trailing a motorcyclist who had been performing illegal stunts.
"They were not in pursuit, but following the rider when the crash occurred.
"Preliminary investigations showed that upon reaching the slip road from Jalan Tun Razak to Jalan Kuching, the victim skidded and lost control of his motorcycle due to the slippery and wet road surface," Zamzuri said.
He said that another policeman was also injured in the same incident, as he was travelling about 10 seconds behind the deceased on a separate motorcycle.
"The deceased lost control and fell on the left side of the road, while the second policeman crashed on the right side seconds later.
"Fortunately, the second policeman only sustained minor injuries and is currently being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital," he said.
Amirul Aiman, who died at the scene, had served with the city traffic police since completing his training nearly four years ago, and had been attached to the Intelligence and Operations Unit for the past year.
He leaves behind a widow and three children.
His remains will be brought back to his hometown in Ajil, Terengganu, for burial today.

KL Hospital gives cops CCTV footage of bloodied foreigner found in car park

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has handed over closed-circuit camera (CCTV) footage to police to aid investigations in the case of a foreigner, suspected of being the victim of assault, who was found with injuries in the hospital's grounds on Sunday (June 29) The Healthy Ministry, in a statement on Friday, quoted HKL director Datuk Dr Harikrishna K.R. Nair as saying that the incident occurred at around 4.30pm and a report was lodged at Dang Wangi Police station on the same day. "Following that, the victim was given immediate treatment at the HKL Emergency and Trauma Department. This case is still under investigation by police, and HKL will not issue a statement that could interfere with the ongoing inquiry," said Dr Harikrishna. A 41-second video went viral earlier this week showing a foreign man standing next to a car with a head wound in the HKL multi-storey car park. The man then collapsed before paramedics rushed to his aid. Dang Wangi police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said an initial examination found the victim also suffered a fractured right rib, but no skull fracture. Sulizmie said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury with a weapon, and members of the public with information are asked to contact Inspector Pang Wei Keong at 013-2082391 or DSP Rosdi M Husin at 013-3920694. - Bernama
