Traffic cop killed in crash while trailing rider

KUALA LUMPUR: A traffic policeman was killed early this morning in an accident while on duty during Op Samseng Jalanan here. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the victim, identified as Lance Corporal Muhammad Amirul Aiman Muhammad Othman, 24, died at the scene of the crash at about 4.40am after losing control of his motorcycle near Jalan Tun Razak. "At the time of the incident, he and another officer were trailing a motorcyclist who had been performing illegal stunts. "They were not in pursuit, but following the rider when the crash occurred. "Preliminary investigations showed that upon reaching the slip road from Jalan Tun Razak to Jalan Kuching, the victim skidded and lost control of his motorcycle due to the slippery and wet road surface," Zamzuri said. He said that another policeman was also injured in the same incident, as he was travelling about 10 seconds behind the deceased on a separate motorcycle. "The deceased lost control and fell on the left side of the road, while the second policeman crashed on the right side seconds later. "Fortunately, the second policeman only sustained minor injuries and is currently being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital," he said. Amirul Aiman, who died at the scene, had served with the city traffic police since completing his training nearly four years ago, and had been attached to the Intelligence and Operations Unit for the past year. He leaves behind a widow and three children. His remains will be brought back to his hometown in Ajil, Terengganu, for burial today.

Traffic cops dies in accident during patrol in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: A 24-year-old traffic police officer was tragically killed in an accident while on a traffic crime prevention patrol in the city. Lance Corporal Muhammad Amirul Aiman Muhammad Othman died at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing along a curve on Jalan Kuching, heading towards Selayang from Jalan Tun Razak, at about 4.30am on Saturday, June 28. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Zamzuri Mohd Isa stated that initial investigations revealed the victim's motorcycle skidded at a bend, hitting a guardrail and plunging down an embankment. "Another officer, who was following on a separate motorcycle, also lost control and suffered minor injuries. He is currently receiving outpatient treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital," ACP Zamzuri said. At the time of the incident, both officers were on duty as part of a special operation to monitor and prevent illegal street racing in and around the city. "Lance Corporal Muhammad Amirul Aiman had served in the KL JSPT since completing his police training and was attached to the JSPT's Intelligence and Operations division for over a year," ACP Zamzuri noted. He leaves behind a wife and three young children. His remains will be laid to rest today in his hometown of Ajil, Terengganu. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
