MP CM Mohan Yadav inaugurates water conservation works worth over Rs 1,518 crore in Khandwa
Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 30 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in the closing ceremony of Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan held in Khandwa district on Monday and laid the foundation stone and inaugurated water conservation works worth over Rs 1,518 crore in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Yadav announced that Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan will continue in a new form. The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign has been launched across the state. From June 30 to August 15, the plantation will be done on government land, followed by private land from August 15 to September 15.
He further said that a new scheme has been launched to promote greenery and horticulture under which 30,000 women will receive Rs 3 lakh each to develop orchards on one acre of land. The grant, given in three annual installments, will cover plantation, fencing, irrigation, and related works. In three years, 30,000 acres of land will be transformed with greenery and it will cost Rs 900 crore to the state.
The CM also inaugurated 57,207 works in panchayats under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department worth Rs 578 crore, and 888 water conservation structures across the state under the Watershed Development Component. Additionally, he dedicated four irrigation projects, including the Jawar Micro Irrigation Project in Khandwa, and 74 renovated water structures.
CM Yadav, stating regarding the major outcomes of the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, informed that 140 major drains flowing into 57 rivers were identified, 91 watershed projects developed across 36 districts, 9,000 water structures constructed for irrigation, Four irrigation projects launched in Khandwa, Maximum temperature in Nimar region dropped by 4C due to various interventions and Irrigation area in the state to increase from 55 lakh hectares to 100 lakh hectares in the coming years.
CM Dr. Yadav also informed that Bundelkhand will be benefited from the Ken-Betwa Link, Malwa-Chambal from the PKC Project, and Nimar from the Tapi Mega Recharge Project.
He added that Madhya Pradesh is the Birth-Place of rivers, with about 300 rivers originating here, enriching neighboring states. Rivers like Narmada, Chambal, Sone, and Tapti sustain other rivers and even seas. Under the Abhiyan, ghats were renovated, especially along the sacred Narmada, the only river that is circumambulated. TN to start van service for tribal students facing dangerous school commutes across various districts
CHENNAI: In a move aimed at improving access to education in remote tribal areas, the Tribal Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu will soon begin operating 23 micro vans covering 56 primary schools across six districts. The initiative targets tribal regions in Tiruchy, Dharmapuri, Salem, Kallakurichi, Erode, and the Nilgiris. It is expected to benefit over 2,000 children who currently face numerous challenges, including dangerous forest paths, unreliable transportation, and harsh weather conditions on their daily journeys to school. "For years, one of the challenges we have observed is that students often do not return to school after long weekends or term holidays, even though all tribal schools have residential facilities," said an official from the department. "This issue, coupled with difficult terrain and safety concerns along forest routes, leads to gradual dropouts and prolonged absenteeism, severely impacting learning outcomes," he said. In response, the state government has issued an order allocating Rs 3.6 crore for the procurement of the 23 micro vans. Bihar's new Rs 100-crore road has a not-so-minor issue — trees standing in the middle
While Bihar has constructed thousands of kilometres of roads in the last decade and allocated more than Rs 3 lakh crore in its 2025-26 state Budget for more, a newly paved stretch in Jehanabad has drawn attention for all the wrong reasons. The Patna-Gaya road in Jehanabad district, which was widened as part of a Rs 100-crore project, has several full-grown trees standing in the middle of it. Several people took to social media, putting up photos and videos of the road, and commenting on the danger that the trees in the middle posed to commuters. The trees, many of the posts pointed out, are not even in a straight line, but are scattered across the road, leading to vehicles speeding through the road in a zig-zag manner. Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey told The Indian Express that the road was paved only recently and 'no accidents have been reported' on the stretch so far. She said the issue arose during the extension of the existing Patna-Gaya road. She clarified that the particular flank where the new road was constructed 'passes through forest land'. As per the administration, clearance for the removal of the trees had been sought from the relevant authorities. However, they saud, before the necessary approvals could be obtained, the agency responsible for the construction proceeded with the roadwork. 'The flank where the road has been made is on forest land. A clearance had been sought, but in the meantime, the agency responsible for the construction of the road, violating the conditions, went ahead with the construction,' the DM said. Taking cognisance of the violation, the district administration has lodged an FIR against the construction agency, she said. 'Additionally, the stretch where the trees stand has been barricaded as a precautionary measure to prevent any accidents,' Pandey said.
