But as negotiations rumble on a disagreement has emerged over Sporting's bonus demands, report Portuguese outlet Record.
Sporting are understood to want £8.7m in add-ons on top of the initial fee.
Arsenal reportedly disagree on the nature of those bonuses and which clauses will be included in the deal.
And that means the transfer is in danger at collapsing at a late stage.

Arsenal ‘make MAJOR breakthrough in Ethan Nwaneri contract talks'... as rumours of playmaker's demands for more playing time are cleared up
Arsenal 's teenage sensation Ethan Nwaneri is reportedly close to signing a new a long-term contract, amid uncertainty surrounding his future. The 18-year-old enjoyed a fine breakout campaign for the Gunners last season as he scored nine goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. However, there has been speculation that Nwaneri could leave Mikel Arteta 's side, with his existing deal set to expire next summer. This has only been fuelled by the impending arrival of Noni Madueke from Chelsea, as well as Arsenal's strong interest in Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze - both of whom Nwaneri may find himself competing for position with. Nevertheless, the Hale End graduate appears determined to fight for his place at Arsenal, with contract talks gathering pace as Nwaneri signals his commitment to his boyhood club. The England Under-21 international's priority was always to stay in north London, according to The Athletic. It is understood that Nwaneri - who played almost 1400 minutes in all competitions last season - did not make any demands regarding his playing time during recent negotiations. Mail Sport reported last week that Arsenal hope they can convince the player to stay by offering him a five-year contract - or a four-year deal with an option for a further year to be included. Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are said to remain positive that an agreement can be reached, while Nwaneri's team are also keen on finding common ground. Should that be the case - and Nwaneri were to end up signing a new contract - he would be the third Arsenal player to commit their long-term future to the club this summer. They have already seen fellow youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030. Fellow defender Gabriel has also put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him stay in N5 until 2029.

Claudio Braga is Hearts 'Labrador' as Derek McInnes reveals crowd pleaser's debut blues he helped banish
The Portuguese came off the bench in the Jambos' 4-0 win over Hamilton to bag his first goal in maroon Derek McInnes labelled Claudio Braga Hearts ' "Labrador" after the Portuguese came off the bench against Hamilton to open his account in maroon. The new Portuguese signing made his competitive debut for the Jambos in Saturday's 4-1 win over Dunfermline in the Premier Sports Cup at Tynecastle, although was subbed off before the end after being deployed in a wide left role. Fans were left underwhelmed by the Jamestown Analytics find who arrived for a £400,000 fee from Aalesunds Norway, but they weren't as disappointed as Braga himself. McInnes revealed that the Hearts No10 was down in the dumps after his debut didn't go the way he dreamed it and he found himself on the bench against Accies. But he made the most of his opportunity when he got un, setting up James Wilson after a driving run for the capital club's third goal and added the fourth himself via the aid of a deflection, then celebrating joyfully in front of the travelling support with Cristiano Ronaldo's trademark 'siiuu' celebration. McInnes explained that Braga was his own worst critic at the weekend, but is convinced he will give everything to feel the love from fans and teammates alike. 'I think he was very harsh on himself after Saturday," said the Hearts oss. "He was very down Sunday, Monday, and I spoke to him tonight. Not about not playing, but just about his general performance on Saturday. "I think he'd probably built it up in his head about how he wanted that first game to go, and in his eyes, it didn't play out exactly how he wanted it. 'He is a crowd-pleaser; he's like a wee Labrador, isn't he, running about? And he just loves that affection from his team-mates, he loves the affection from the supporters, and he'll work hard to get it. "The one thing you can guarantee about him is he's going to work hard in a Hearts shirt. We want more than just the effort; we also need the quality and the goals, and it was good that he managed to play his part in getting himself a goal and then obviously assisting wee James. 'I thought he was a bright spark when he came on. When you've got tired defenders, and it's the same for our boys, you've got to be ready for those changes. "Most managers will change strikers at some point in the game and defenders have got to be ready for it. And I thought Braga was bright as a button when he came on, really sharp with his work, and good to see him scoring as I said.'

Arsenal star Mikel Arteta sold for £21m linked with shock Premier League return
A former Arsenal star whom Mikel Arteta sold for £21million could make a surprise transfer back to the Premier League, according to reports. After a slow start to the summer transfer window, the Gunners have kicked into gear as they look to plug the gaps in Mikel Arteta's squad ahead of the new Premier League season. Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard have all arrived, while deals for Cristhian Mosquera and Noni Madueke are both nearing completion. Another side who have enjoyed a productive start to the window is Sunderland as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight since 2017. The Black Cats have already made six signings this summer, including spending a club-record £30.5m to sign central midfielder Habib Diarra from Strasbourg. However, Regis Le Bris' side are still keen to make further signings in the middle of the park to replace Jobe Bellingham who left for Borussia Dortmund this summer. And according to transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the newly-promoted side have now held club-to-club talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka. Xhaka has spent two seasons at the German club and helped them win the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso, but could be set for a return to England on a three-year deal for a fee of around €10million (£8.7m). Sunderland will face competition for Xhaka's signature, though, with Neom SC also interested in the Swiss international after securing promotion to the Saudi Pro League. Joining Arsenal in 2017, Xhaka racked up 297 appearances in all competitions during his seven seasons in north London. The 32-year-old was made captain by Unai Emery in September 2019, but was stripped of the armband just months later after an angry confrontation with fans. Despite winning back some fans in the following years, Xhaka eventually left the Emirates in 2023 to join Leverkusen, admitting he cried 'tears of joy' when the deal was completed. More Trending 'I'm a very emotional person, I like to cry and I'm not ashamed of it,' he said. 'Of course, I also cried for joy at times. For example, when I made my transfer here to Leverkusen. 'I also cried tears of joy because I really wanted to go back. I think it's also part of it as a person.' Xhaka might not be the only former Arsenal midfielder set for a move to the Stadium of Light, with other reports linking Sunderland with a move for Matteo Guendouzi..
