In a video address marking Navy Day, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday (July 27) praised the sailors and officers of the Russian Navy for their heroic efforts in the ongoing Ukraine war, highlighting their dedication to defending the Motherland.
'Today, sailors and marines serve as an example of the valiant performance of military duty during a special military operation,' he stated, commending their fight for truth, justice, and a secure, sovereign future for Russia.

He paid tribute to the legacy of the Russian Navy, saying, 'Today we honor all generations of brave sailors and officers devoted to duty and the Motherland. We remember all those who in different years and eras created the glory and power of the Russian Navy, who with military achievements and triumphs, with daily hard work and brilliant scientific achievements established Russia as a great maritime power.'
He underscored the Navy's historical significance, dating back to Peter the Great, as a source of national pride and respect.
'It has long been known that the Navy has always been for the Motherland and honor. Your strength and courage, knowledge and honesty, straightforwardness and brotherhood were brought up in the conditions of dangerous, harsh naval service, its special culture, the main meaning of which is sincere, heartfelt, unshakable love for the Fatherland. All this is passed down from generation to generation,' Putin remarked.
The President expressed gratitude to the Navy personnel for their 'impeccable execution of duties and contributions to strengthening Russia's naval capabilities, wishing them success in their endeavours.'
Russia to expand its Black Sea fleet
Nikolai Patrushev, head of Russia's Maritime Collegium, announced earlier this week that the Black Sea Fleet will be enhanced in the coming years.
'In the coming years, the Black Sea sailors will be further strengthened — with the arrival of new frigates, corvettes, aviation, marine robotic complexes,' he said.

Patrushev, a long-time ally of Putin and a key figure in Russia's security apparatus, has been influential for decades.
In June, President Putin approved a new naval doctrine aimed at restoring Russia's status as a global maritime power.
According to public assessments, Russia's navy remains the third most powerful in the world.
