Indiana Pacers Lose Out on Free Agency Target to Los Angeles Lakers
The Indiana Pacers, after making the NBA Finals, seem destined for a down year. First, Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles and will be sidelined for all of next season. After that, they failed to re-sign veteran center Myles Turner, who, after ten seasons, is heading to the Milwaukee Bucks.

With Turner gone, the Pacers pivoted to former first overall pick Deandre Ayton, who was recently bought out by the Portland Trail Blazers. Ayton reportedly narrowed it down to Indiana or the Los Angeles Lakers, and on Wednesday, he made it official: he will be a Laker.
Honestly, it's hard to blame him.
Aside from appearing in the 2021 NBA Finals with the Phoenix Suns, Ayton has not played much winning basketball in the NBA. Even with him on the roster, the Pacers would likely struggle to get out of the first round.
With the Lakers, led by Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James, Ayton can once again compete for a title.

While there were questions about his motor and mentality, likely leading to his departure from Portland, he is a double-double machine and is a reliable starting center in the NBA, and has been since his rookie season.
The Lakers missed out on Clint Capela and Brook Lopez, and with the Blazers paying part of his salary, were able to make a competitive offer.
Indiana, meanwhile, has long made it clear that it will not pay the luxury tax, and the parting of ways with Turner further proves its reluctance to spend. While the Lakers hunt for their 18th banner, the Pacers, after coming so close, will miss out again.

As a huge Caitlin Clark fan and WNBA collector, I'd love to buy in, but I can't even afford a break, let alone a full box. Break pricing for Rookie Royalty spots is popping up on various apps, and it looks like some shops are splitting two-card boxes into up to 58 spots, perhaps the worst odds to hit of all time. Still, with multiple Caitlin Clark cards selling for six figures in the last few weeks alone, a few people are going to have their lives changed by this product in the next few weeks — if not already. So if you ever unearth a piece of American history in your grandfather's basement, tuck it away, one day a billionaire might be willing to pay handsomely for it. A ballpark bobblehead taps into the sports fan inside us all. It's a time-honored tradition even your parents remember fondly. But today's collectors want more than a run-of-the-mill player figure. No doubt, the Yankees front office knew this would be a smash hit the second it was suggested. Jason Alexander cards (yes, George Costanza himself) fly off the auction block and are nearly impossible to track down . They fetch high prices for the same reason Netflix's 'Pieces of Shit for Breakfast' cereal boxes from Fanatics Fest sell for $40 bucks on eBay . Millennials love nostalgia and they love collecting. MLB All-Star voting resumed Monday, and while Ohtani and Judge are locks, the real market movers may be the breakout stars. Pete Crow-Armstrong's 1st Bowman Draft auto has jumped from around $300 to $550 this season, and a big All-Star performance could make the perfect time to sell. Jacob Wilson's Chrome 1st auto surged 218% in three months, making his red rookie a bargain entry at $50-$60 IF he wins ROY. Keep an eye on Acuña Jr for a Home Run Derby spike, and don't sleep on Javier Báez's redemption narrative fueling his rookie autos. Collectible Grading Authority, best known for its AFA toy grading and VGA video game grading, just passed into new hands, led by Kenner Star Wars toy guru Tom Derby. In 2025, as graded collectibles soar in value, reliable authentication has never mattered more. CGA, spun out of Diamond Comics' bankruptcy, will stay in Georgia with its expert team and aims to expand services and innovate grading standards. Could an ex-Pacer help the team post-Myles Turner in a very specific situation?
As you've probably heard, the Indiana Pacers need a center. Myles Turner signed with the Milwaukee Bucks, leaving the Pacers, right now, with Tony Bradley and (maybe) Isaiah Jackson (he's a restricted free agent) at the position on the roster. But there is a free agent with a long history with the Pacers who thinks he could help out in a very specific situation: Jermaine O'Neal. "I like my chances against anyone in the post," O'Neal, 46, said during a visit to The Dan Patrick Show. "If we're talking full court, I'm not doing that. These legs don't have that much gas." O'Neal said he'd dunked as recently as a month ago and that he could lead any rec league in scoring. "I try to stay in pretty good shape," O'Neal said. "Every year I have kids from my school or my club that want to challenge me 1-on-1. I'm the old guy they think they can beat. I have to remind them I got paid to do this. I'm not going to allow a teenager to beat me." O'Neal made six all-star teams with the Pacers from 2001-2008, was All-NBA three times and Most Improved Player in 2001-02. He averaged 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. Patrick immediately started asking O'Neal who he could beat, including No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg, Victor Wembanyama and LeBron James. "Just straight post work? I think I have a chance," O'Neal said. "Throw me the ball in the post, 1-on-1, I still like my chances because I'm still nimble. Mano a mano, I've got a chance. I have a chance to win in a 1-on-1, whether I win or not, we'll see."
