CM Revanth Reddy Praises Congress' Legacy and Social Justice Efforts

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the Congress Party's history of working for Dalit and Adivasi welfare during the party's annual legal conference in Delhi. He emphasised that Congress, which led India to independence, remains a party rooted among the people, unlike other parties such as BJP, BRS, JD, BJD, and RJD, which emerged after independence. Reddy criticised the current leadership under Modi, accusing them of neglecting social justice for the past 11 years and jeopardising the Constitution. He praised Congress for its 140-year fight for independence, its role in defeating the British, and leaders like Indira Gandhi, who fought terrorists and sacrificed for the country. He also recalled Sonia Gandhi's sacrifice in relinquishing the Prime Ministership during UPA-1, asserting the party's enduring commitment to social justice and national service.

'Feels Like Slapping Them': Telangana CM On Misinformation, 'Unqualified Journalists'

Last Updated: Revanth Reddy advised journalists to differentiate themselves from media persons affiliated to political parties Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday criticised the rise of misinformation and the growing presence of 'unqualified" individuals posing as journalists, especially on digital and social media platforms. Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Telugu daily Nava Telangana, the Chief Minister expressed frustration at what he described as a disturbing trend in modern media. 'Today, somebody who does not know alphabet says I am a journalist," Reddy said. 'If we ask him, he says I am a social media journalist. He identifies himself as a journalist as if it is his surname." He went on to say that at times, he feels like 'slapping" those who spread false propaganda or display arrogance, but refrains due to the dignity of his position. 'Those who do not follow basic courtesies like respecting seniors sit in the front rows when we conduct press conferences. Some of them show so much arrogance. Sometimes, I feel like slapping them. But, stature and circumstances prevent from doing so," he remarked. Reddy also took aim at political parties that run their own media outlets. While noting that political publications were once used to promote ideologies, he alleged that today, many party-owned media platforms are being used to cover up irregularities, protect personal interests, and defame critics. The Chief Minister urged senior journalists and professional media organisations to draw a clear line between genuine journalists and unqualified individuals posing as digital media reporters. Reddy admitted that his language can sometimes be harsh when addressing political opponents but argued that this is often in response to similar language used against him. He called on the media to introspect and maintain credibility in an era where misinformation can easily spread unchecked online. 'The current media landscape is so complicated that it has become necessary for sincere journalists to conduct seminars and define who a journalist is," he added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
