Woman chokes dog until it's left wheezing in video 'too disturbing to watch'
A woman is facing criminal charges after a disturbing video allegedly showing her choking a dog circulated on social media. The Butler County Sheriff's Office in Ohio announced that 28-year-old Katelin Conklin has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty and domestic violence. Her arrest followed an investigation triggered by the release of the video last month.
According to authorities, the video shows Conklin physically assaulting her boyfriend and violently attacking a dog. The footage allegedly captures Conklin punching her boyfriend and choking the dog, which can be heard struggling to breathe. She is also seen forcefully throwing the animal to the ground.
Deputies responded to a residence on Buena Avenue after receiving the video. Following conversations with both Conklin and her boyfriend, she was taken into custody.
'This type of behaviour is unacceptable,' said Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones. 'We take both domestic violence and animal cruelty very seriously and will always pursue charges when the evidence supports it.'
It comes after a Brazilian beauty queen was stripped of her title and now faces jail after a video of her surfaced online allegedly attacking a cat with a firecracker.
The incident is thought to have taken place around New Year in Araucaria, a city in the state of Parana, Brazil. Beauty queen Gabrielly Palacio, 19, was allegedly seen lighting a firecracker and throwing it towards a cat as she laughed with a friend. Following the video's release, Palacio was stripped of her 'Miss Araucaria 2024' title by the pageant organisers.
Animal rights activists have also widely condemned the act and demanded legal action. Under Brazilian law, animal abuse is punishable by up to five years in prison. Local authorities say they are currently investigating the incident, while Palacio has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
The clip, which the Mirror has chosen not to share, sparked outrage on social media, with several disgusted viewers slamming Palacio's actions and calling for accountability. One user wrote: "This is absolutely disgusting. She should face the full consequences of her actions."
Another said: "It's sad to see someone in her position behaving like this. A crown comes with responsibility." One user argued: "I think she needs education on animal rights rather than punishment. People make mistakes." The case has renewed calls for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in Brazil.
It comes after the RSPCA claimed young people are at risk of being desensitised to animal cruelty as 'terrifyingly high' numbers are now exposed to vile images online. The charity found more than two-fifths of people aged 16 and 17 and almost a third of 18 to 24s have seen avoidable animal suffering online, compared with a fifth of all people.
Reports to its emergency line about animal cruelty on social media were on course to hit a four-year high. Since the start of 2020, there have been 2,000 reports logged. he RSPCA claims there is a 'compassion gap' between generations, with those spending the most time online having the least favourable opinions about animal welfare.
Chief executive Chris Sherwood said: 'There's a growing concern the proliferation of abuse content online risks normalising animal harm, pain and suffering. We're concerned by the high numbers of young people being exposed to such images.'

Leroy Christopher Wall, 35, of Victoria Lane, appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 25, where he pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his dog, a nine-month-old Patterdale terrier named Blackie, under the Animal Welfare Act. The court heard that Wall failed to seek timely veterinary treatment for an injury to Blackie's left eye, which was described as 'severely bulging.' Shannon Guppy, an animal welfare officer for the RSPCA, said: Blackie was seen by her on September 19, 2024, and had what appeared to be a severely bulging eye. Wall told officers the injury happened three days earlier during a feeding-time fight with another dog. He admitted knowing Blackie needed care but failed to get help. Blackie was removed from Wall's care and taken to a vet, where emergency surgery was carried out to remove the eye. A vet involved in the case said Wall had "failed in their duty of care and left him suffering unnecessarily for a period of three to six days." Wall was handed a 12-month community order, 40 hours of unpaid work, and a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement. He was also disqualified from keeping mammals for 12 months and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge. The ban was suspended for 14 days to allow the RSPCA to remove any remaining animals from his care. RSPCA deputy chief inspector Gemma Black said: "Blackie was clearly suffering and the pictures of him with his severe eye injury are extremely upsetting. "We urge owners not to wait or put off veterinary attention." The court heard that Wall had not acted out of deliberate cruelty but accepted that he should have done more and acknowledged the pain caused. Blackie has since recovered from surgery and is now in the care of the RSPCA. The charity said he will soon be made available for rehoming.

A MAN who sexually abused and performed a sex act next to horses at stables before he was caught on CCTV has managed to avoid jail. Corey Coleman, 26, accepted he had an "unhealthy interest" in horses after footage revealed his various disturbing acts on the animals. 4 4 4 Wales ' Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court heard how Coleman, from Llanharan, regularly volunteered in helping look after the horses at the Ynyscrug livery yard. But on June 27 last year, the man was found lying in a passageway between the stables with "serious injuries" to his back. Coleman was hospitalised with spinal fractures and was given a back brace - but was "back at the stables" not long after, RSPCA prosecutor Geraint Richards said. The owner of the stables, Alex Hill, questioned Coleman as to how he got the injury, to which he said one of the horses attempted to mount him. Mr Hill then decided to look at the CCTV, which "concerned him enough to look deeper into it," Mr Richards said. When Mr Hill checked the footage from Coleman's stables visits on July 15 and 29, he saw that he had been abusing horses. Coleman was captured "teasing and arousing" a horse, with the date he was injured showing a similar disturbing incident. After the yard's owner called cops, Coleman was then arrested and made an "unsolicited" comment to officers that his actions were "part of the cleaning," the court heard. RSPCA prosecutor Mr Richards explained how the stables were "quite busy" and there were often "children in the vicinity" outside. He added that it was likely the abuse had occurred "for many months" due to the horses' behaviour during the incidents that "showed they had been conditioned to be used to this sort of attention". Horror as over 200 animals who 'crammed in tiny spaces' seized from Co Kildare property by ISPCA Daniel Maggs, defending, confessed it was a "very unusual case" and added that Coleman struggled to discuss the heinous incidents because of his "embarrassment". The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a bay stallion named Bear and a palomino stallion named Benny by sexually abusing them. He also pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the welfare of the same stallions and failing to ensure the welfare of a bay mare named Nala who was exposed to the risk of injury from the stallions. The court heard how there are two dogs and two cats at Coleman's main place of residency - his girlfriend of nine years's home - and two dogs at his mum's where he stays "from time to time". Coleman's solicitor Mr Maggs said it was be "fair to say" his relationship is now "on the rocks" due to the shocking discoveries. Coleman was also disqualified from owning, keeping or transporting horses, or participating in their keeping for half a decade and ordered to pay costs of £474.
