Naturally, you and your family might cover more than that in a year but, luckily, increasing the annual limit to 8,000 miles costs less than £10 a month extra. Under the bonnet of this sensible-looking family car is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 261bhp and 370Nm of torque, all sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. That's enough oomph to get Octavia vRS from 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds, but can still return up to 40.9mpg, when you take things easier.
As well as delivering impressive pace, the Octavia vRS is incredibly spacious and boasts a massive 600-litre boot. The luggage capacity grows to 1,555 litres when you fold the rear seats down, and if you've got a caravan to haul, the car can tow up to 1,600kg.
Naturally, the vRS gets a subtly sportier look than the regular Octavia, courtesy of different bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels and tuned suspension that makes the car sit lower 15mm. The interior also gets some special treatment, with sports seats, a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, aluminium pedal covers and lots of red stitching.
The cherry on top of all of this is an impressive standard kit list that includes a 13-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, a 10.25-inch 'Virtual Cockpit' driver's display, a wireless charging pad, keyless start, adaptive cruise control, numerous other driver-assistance systems and, of course, several of Skoda's signature 'Simply Clever' features - such as a handy umbrella hidden in driver's door.

Wannabe fraudster, 33, who tried to claim £74,000 after lorry smashed into his Porsche is caught out... because dashcam snapped him 'hiding in bushes'
A wannabe fraudster's £74,000 claim has been foiled after footage shows he was not inside his luxury Porsche when it was hit by a lorry - but instead seemingly hiding in the bushes. Terell Brooks, a 33-year-old account manager from Romford, claimed he was sat in the £81,000 car at the time of impact and suffered injuries as a result. However, dashcam footage shows Mr Brooks had parked his Porsche 911 Carrera GTS on the edge of the road on the A13 in Essex on August 19, 2022, when a lorry collided with the vehicle. His claim included £63,435 for alleged damage to the Porsche, £5,000 for personal injury, £2,400 for medical treatment, and a further £3,374 for loss of earnings. But the dashcam footage from the lorry revealed a different story. The video clearly shows the Porsche parked and unoccupied, with Mr Brooks visible several metres away in bushes behind a roadside barrier. It is unclear why he had exited the vehicle, but the footage confirmed he was not inside at the time of the incident. After the footage was put to Mr Brooks' solicitors, they withdrew from the case. Clyde & Co, representing AXA UK who insured the lorry, filed an Amended Defence stating the claim was 'founded on a false premise'. They asserted that both Mr Brooks and an alleged passenger knowingly gave false accounts to insurers, legal representatives, and medical professionals. Mr Brooks subsequently discontinued his claim and agreed to pay AXA's legal costs of £4,000. He signed a Tomlin Order formally admitting his claim was dishonest, confirming he was not in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Deborah Talbot, AXA claims operations manager, said: 'This case highlights how technology is helping us to fight claims fraud. 'The dashcam footage provided clear evidence that Mr Brooks wasn't in the car at the time of the collision, avoiding a potentially costly and lengthy court hearing.' Damian Rourke, partner at Clyde & Co, added: 'Mr Brooks claimed he was sitting in his Porsche, belted up and injured. 'The dashcam showed him in the bushes. 'We still don't know what he was doing there – but we do know he wasn't in the car. His story fell apart the moment the truth came to light. 'In every sense, the claim was caught short.'

Unveiled Tuesday, the Aston Martin Vantage S boasts more power and model-specific throttle and chassis tuning aimed at sharper responses. Watch More The new Vantage S follows the DBX S in Aston's new generation of 'S' models. Originating with the DB3S race car in 1953, the nomenclature has been used in the 21st century to denote upgraded versions of Aston road cars, including the 2004 Vanquish S, the 2015 Rapide S, and two previous versions of the Vantage S in 2011 and 2013. 670 HP Delivered More Urgently The latest Vantage S starts with a power boost for the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, sourced from Mercedes-AMG. It now makes 670 horsepower, an increase of 14 hp over the standard Vantage. Torque is unchanged at 590 lb-ft, and power is still sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transaxle. Aston also made calibration changes to the accelerator pedal weight and response in line with an 'S'-specific engine map, plus changes to the launch control. That shaves 0.1 second off the zero to 60 mph time, which is now 3.3 seconds, according to Aston. Top speed remains unchanged at 202 mph. On the chassis side, Aston claims changes to the tuning of the Vantage's adaptive dampers yield increased front-end feel and response. Rear-spring stiffness was also reduced to improve low-speed ride quality, while the transmission-mount stiffness was reduced by 10% to improve refinement. However, the rear subframe is also hard-mounted to the body to give the driver a more connected feel. Visual changes include two functional hood vents, which play an active role in extracting hot air from the engine compartment, according to Aston. Also functional is a new rear spoiler, which adds 97 pounds of downforce at the car's top speed, contributing to a 244-pound total. Additional changes to the underbody, including a new air dam and Venturi vanes, make up the rest of that total. The Vantage S also wears model-specific 21-inch wheels, but the best way to identify one will likely be the contingent of 'S' badges. Each is hand made from brass, with a red enamel coating and chrome plating to match the main Aston bonnet badge.
