Messi appeared frustrated after the final whistle and confronted ref Joe Dickerson.
He pointed at the official and exchanged words with Dickerson, who reportedly said to him: 'Do you want me to send you off? Walk away!'
Messi did walk away but he was still unhappy so he continued gesticulating towards the referee and pointed at him again.
San Jose coach Bruce Arena tried to beckon the superstar away, and he later confirmed Messi was not happy.

Arena said: 'Yes, yes, he was. As you know, there's a universal language when you're talking about referees.
'He was obviously not happy. And I really wanted to make sure he wasn't going to get a red card, and that's why I just tried to move him out of the way.
'Because for him to get a red card at the end of the game would have been ridiculous.
'So I just wanted to make sure we get him out of there and he's ready to play the

Lionel Messi hit with MLS ban and will miss Inter Miami's next game

Lionel Messi is set to miss Inter Miami's upcoming match against Cincinnati after being slapped with an MLS suspension. The football maestro has been penalised for his absence from the MLS All-Star Game. Messi, who recently lifted the World Cup trophy, did not participate in the showcase event and no explanation was provided at the time for the star player's no-show. Inter Miami's coach Javier Mascherano later attributed Messi's absence to exhaustion. According to MLS regulations, any player who misses the All-Star Game without a legitimate injury must serve a one-match suspension. Discussing Messi's condition, Mascherano remarked that he "showed normal fatigue from the number of games and minutes he's been playing. Look, players always have discomfort, especially when they play every three days." Messi's team-mate Jordi Alba, who was with him at Barcelona back when Pep Guardiola was in charge, is being subjected to the same ban after also bypassing the game. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was suspended for skipping the All-Star Game in 2018. Miami played nine games in a 35-day span between the FIFA Club World Cup and MLS regular season - during that period Messi played every minute. MLS commissioner Don Garber said earlier this week: "We do have rules, and we have to manage through that as well. We would have loved to have Leo here. We'd love to have every player that was selected for the All-Star team here. After this All-Star Game, we'll figure out what needs to happen. "I was told this morning that neither Jordi nor Messi practiced today (Wednesday). Jordi came off with an injury in last game, and we'll have to manage through what Miami is going to say about that." Despite being without Messi and Alba the MLS squad secured a 3-1 win against Mexico's Liga MX All-Stars in Austin, Texas. The 38-year-old, an eight-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, has scored 18 goals in as many appearances for Inter Miami in the MLS. Since making the move to Florida Messi has helped his team, co-owned by David Beckham, win the Leagues Cup in 2023 and the following year they landed the Supporters' Shield. Inter Miami currently sit seventh overall in the MLS but are fifth in their Conference. (Image: Chris Arjoon/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba disciplined after missing All-Star Game

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami team-mate Jordi Alba have been suspended from their next club match after missing Wednesday's MLS All-Star Game against Mexico's Liga MX. Messi's club coach Javier Mascherano told reporters on Friday the Argentinian World Cup winner had sat out the showpiece due to fatigue, while Alba is believed to have sustained a knock in their previous MLS fixture. However, without approval from the league, both players were liable for sanction. "Inter Miami CF defender Jordi Alba and forward Lionel Messi will be unavailable for the club's Matchday 27 game against FC Cincinnati on Saturday evening, due to their absence at the 2025 MLS All-Star Game," read an MLS statement. "Per league rules, any player who does not participate in the All-Star Game without prior approval from the league is ineligible to compete in their club's next match." Despite Messi being the major star of MLS, commissioner Don Garber said the rules had to be enforced without exception, although he was open to a future amendment. "I know Lionel Messi loves this league. I don't think there's a player - or anyone - who has done more for Major League Soccer than Messi," he said. "I fully understand, respect, and admire his commitment to Inter Miami, and I respect his decision. "Unfortunately, we have a long-standing policy regarding participation in the All-Star Game, and we had to enforce it. It was a very difficult decision. "That said, we're going to take a hard look at the policy moving forward. I'm committed to working with our players to determine how the rule should evolve."

Shelbourne sign Dutch keeper as cover ahead of Champions League clash with Qarabag

Shelbourne have drafted in Dutch goalkeeper Wessel Speel as cover ahead of Wednesday's Champions League second round first leg clash against Qarabag. Regular custodian Conor Kearns was forced off with a hamstring during the first half of last Wednesday's second leg at Linfield, with substitute Lorcan Healy seeing out the 1-1 draw that clinched an aggregate 2-1 triumph. Speel comes to Tolka Park highly recommended, the 6'7' stopper making three appearances for MLS side Minnesota United this year, but Healy is expected to keep his place for the visit of the Azerbaijani champions. 'He's a player we've been following since he came onto our radar about six months ago,' said Shels boss Joey O'Brien, admitting the Kearns hamstring tear hastened the recruitment process. 'Conor will be out for a few weeks. An opportunity came up for him (Speel) to come in and I think he's going to add real competition to that goalkeeping department.' Shels are up against a team that have reached the group stages of European competition for 11 seasons in a row. One piece of solace, which former Ireland defender O'Brien derives, is the difference in season formats. Qarabag are, like most of Europe, in the early throes of pre-season. 'It's definitely something I've found over the years when you're playing teams because fitness is a big thing,' he explained. 'We're right in the middle of our season. Sometimes they lack match sharpness but once you have quality you, don't lose it.' Despite the gulf in resources, Shels won't be conservative before the trek to the edge of Eastern Europe next week. Regardless of the outcome, they are guaranteed two additional ties in the Europa and Conference should they be eliminated from Uefa's supreme competition. 'This is our home game so it's on us to get the atmosphere going, get on the front foot and go after them,' added O'Brien. 'A lot was made of the finances from beating Linfield but from our point of view, it's a great opportunity. 'To win a Champions League game, having that on your CV, is brilliant for a player. To go into the next round and play against the opposition we are playing only comes about because we won the first tie. 'I'm going to attack it, try and get on the front foot. 'Obviously I know they are going to be a quality team who have some serious players but with the way I want to be as a player and want my team to play, I want our team to show our personality and our quality.'
