Another fatal shooting reported outside Meru motorcycle shop
According to a Facebook post by a user, at least six gunshots were reportedly fired at the victim, who was inside a pickup truck parked in front of the premises.
'People of Meru, be careful. A shooting has just happened here,' the user wrote in the post, which quickly gained traction online, Sinar Harian reported.
Several other Facebook users also shared their experiences of either witnessing or hearing the incident.
One user, Anisha Syam, said she heard the gunshots clearly and described the sound as frightening.
'It was really terrifying to hear those gunshots,' she said.
Another user, Badrul Hisham Mohd Nor, said he had just left the area shortly before the incident occurred.
'I had just finished changing my motorcycle tyre at the shop. I was there a bit earlier before it happened,' he said.
Efforts to get police confirmation on the incident are ongoing.

"If such a service were ever to exist, I would be the first to try it," he told Sinar Harian with a laugh. Meanwhile, acting Baling OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Salini Md Ali urged the public to verify the authenticity of any viral content, particularly on social media. "To date, we have not received any reports of losses, fraud, or concerns regarding this AI-generated content. "Our checks in both Baling and Pengkalan Hulu confirm that no such cable car project exists," he added. DSP Ahmad Salini also said that if such AI-generated content causes panic, or disrupts public order, action could be taken under existing laws. A check by Sinar Harian showed that the video is no longer available and appears to have been removed from all social media platforms.

Commotion in Sepang court as murder victim's relative tries to confront suspect
SEPANG: A commotion broke out at a Sepang Magistrate's Court here Thursday (July 3) when a man, believed to be a family member of the slain student Maniishapriet Kaur, attempted to confront the main suspect in the case, Sinar Harian reports. The man, dressed in red, approached the suspect while shouting at him as he exited the court after a remand extension hearing at around 9.50am Thursday, the Malay language daily reported. Police officers at the scene then tried to calm the individual to prevent any untoward incidents. It was reported that a man and three women, aged from 19 to 20 years old, were apprehended in Johor Baru, Johor, and Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan, on Thursday (June 26) and early Friday (June 27) morning in connection with the murder. They were nabbed within 48 hours of the police report lodged on the incident. Maniishapriet, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student, was found dead in her dorm at a condominium in Cyberjaya. The victim, who was from Kuching, Sarawak, was discovered unconscious with visible injuries on her body by her friend at about 10am on Tuesday (June 24). The friend then immediately alerted the police. She was living with five other students, but they had returned home for the holidays on June 21, leaving her alone at the hostel, as she was scheduled to take an upcoming examination. The victim's ATM card was among several valuables reported missing from the scene, including a laptop, mobile phone, and cash. A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Public cautioned over AI-generated video after fake cable car clip circulates
BALING: Police have urged the public to be wary of viral advertisements and promotional content online, especially in light of a recent AI-generated video that falsely depicted a cable car connecting Pangkalan Hulu in Perak to Baling. Acting Baling police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Salimi Md Ali said no official complaints had been lodged, but the incident serves as a reminder to verify the authenticity of content circulating on social media. "We advise the public not to fall for viral content without confirmation. In this era of AI-generated media, misleading materials can spread easily and cause confusion," he said. He said no such cable car project exists in the district, and preliminary checks confirmed the video was entirely fabricated. The realistic-looking video, which went viral on TikTok and Facebook, misled a retired couple from Kuala Lumpur into travelling to Baling hoping to ride the fictional cable car. Baling District Officer Yazlan Sunardie Che Yahaya also weighed in, acknowledging that while the clip was fake, the quality was impressive. "There's no such thing, obviously," Yazlan told the New Straits Times. "But I have to admit, the video was very well done. "Even though it was AI-generated, it sparked an interesting idea. "With the terrain and scenery here, something like that might actually be possible one day." He said that if it were real, he would be the first to line up for a ride. Yazlan said the incident highlights the power and potential of AI content, as well as the need for media literacy among the public. "If such videos ever cause undue panic or disruption, they could be investigated under existing laws," said Ahmad Salimi.
