Holy Islamic relics go on display at Bradford City Hall
"Some of the pieces are from inside the Kaaba, which is very rare. And some of the pieces are from inside the Prophet Muhammad's tomb, which you don't usually get to see unless you're a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family," he added.
The exhibition includes the Kiswa, a 29ft-long (9m) cloth that covers the Kaaba, the sacred stone structure at the heart of the Great Mosque in Mecca, which is considered the spiritual centre of Islam.Made from pure silk, 22 carat gold and silver, and embroidered with Quranic verses, the Kiswa is changed every year on the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah.Also on display will be pieces from the Ottoman empire, which are more than 270 years old, the lock and key from the Kaaba, which is changed every few years, and a draping from the the wall of the inner tomb of Prophet Muhammad. Mr Maniar said the pieces had been donated by the Saudi Arabian authorities. "In Medina you can only see the external tomb, you only get to peer through a grill from the outside."All the pieces are gold and many of the gold threads are used to do calligraphy and take a year to complete."The exhibition has toured around the UK, including in Birmingham and Dewsbury, and will be on display at Batley Town Hall in April. It is supported by the Council of Mosques, Bradford City Council and restaurant Mr T's. The UK's eight most unusual baby names revealed
Muhammad has once again topped the list of most popular baby boy names in England and Wales, marking its second consecutive year at number one, official figures show. The name has remained in the top 10 since 2016. Noah and Oliver held onto their second and third positions respectively, mirroring 2023's rankings. For girls, Olivia and Amelia remained the top two choices for the third year running. However, Isla dropped out of the top three, replaced by Lily. Olivia's enduring popularity is clear, having featured in the top three every year since 2006, with 2,761 girls given the name in 2024. The rankings are based on the exact spellings of names given at birth registration, meaning similar names with different spellings are counted separately. The data, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), revealed the more unusual names given to babies born in 2024. Names given to baby boys less than five times in 2024 include Cuthbert, Crispin, Awesome and Beckham. Names given to baby girls less than five times include Orchid, Poem, Sicily and Everest. The ONS data also shows that three variant spellings of Muhammad made the list of the top 100 baby boys' names in England and Wales in 2024. Muhammad ranked first with 5,721 boys being given the name, while Mohammed came in 21st with 1,760 and Mohammad came 53rd with 986. The ONS found that royal names continued to fall in popularity on the whole. Their data found that George ranked sixth overall with 3,257 babies being given the name and William came in 27th. Louis came in 47th for boys, while Charlotte ranked 23rd for girls. Other popular names for boys in the top 10 included Arthur, Leo, Luca, Theodore, Oscar and Archie, while the top names for girls include Ivy, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Ava and Elsie.

These are the 30 names Nameberry expect to prove particularly popular in 2025: Albie Astro Blossom Cyan Echo Gio Lilibet Lottie Lula Nori Rook Scottie Suede Wednesday Xavi Dolly Georgie Koda Lively Louie Maven Posey Sandro Sonny Two Whit Zelie Aqua Bash Cub Experts at Nameberry said: 'Today's trendiest names value safe harbors, the natural landscape, rebranded country names for boys and femininomenal names for girls. 'Parents are dusting off names from the family tree to use as-is, and creating new names with personal meaning. And big news: Baby names are literally that.' They added: 'If the past few years have emphasized 'you're naming an adult, not a baby', 2025 will embrace the inverse. Some of the trendiest baby names are clearly meant for babies. 'Taking inspiration from notable influencer babies, including Nara Smith's Whimsy Lou, Jaci Marie Smith's daughter Benny, and Savannah LaBrant's son Blue, parents are increasingly opting for nicknames on the birth certificate and nouveau choices with a playful sensibility. 'Rhythm is an important factor. These spirited names are often paired with a single-syllable middle name to achieve a sing-songy effect, like Rio Rose, Klarity Doll, and Aero Lore — all recent celebrity baby names.'
