Squid Game season 3 finale ends with surprise Hollywood star cameo
The final season of Squid Game has arrived, but not without one last twist that has left fans floored.
*Warning, major season three spoilers to follow*
Season three of Netflix's ultra-popular Korean-language thriller, out now, picks up immediately after the bloody rebellion sparked by Player 456/ Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae) in the season two finale.
In an attempt to end the deadly game created by a wealthy elite — where hundreds of cash-strapped individuals fight to the death for a massive cash prize — Gi-Hun re-entered the competition and recruited others to help stage a coup.
But judging by the show's final scene, which features a cameo by none other than two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, it's clear the games will only continue — and on a global scale.
In the last moments of the show, the game's Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is seen being driven around Downtown Los Angeles. When stopped at a light, he hears the familiar sounds of two ddakji tiles slamming the pavement, followed by a loud slap.
Rolling down the window, he makes eye contact with Blanchett, who's suited up and locked in a game of ddakji with a seemingly desperate man in an alleyway.
Blanchett and the Front Man exchange a nod of acknowledgement before the latter pulls away, leaving Blanchett to return to her recruit, who begs for another attempt.
'As you wish,' she says.
The Ocean's Eight actor's unexpected cameo left fans in complete and utter shock.
'WDYM CATE BLANCHETT IS IN SQUID GAME S3 ?!?!' one wrote on X, with a second arguing that her appearance was 'the only good thing about the season.'
'MY JAWS DROPPED??? MOTHER?? IN MY GAME OF SQUIDS?' a third added.
Another commented: 'Omg I did not see this coming wow the gag of the century !! I love love cate.'
Speaking to Netflix's Tudum about the Tár star's role, director Hwang Dong-hyuk explained: 'We thought having a woman as a recruiter would be more dramatic and intriguing.
'And as for why Cate Blanchett, she's just the best, with unmatched charisma,' he gushed. 'Who doesn't love her? So we were very happy to have her appear. We needed someone who could dominate the screen with just one or two words, which is exactly what she did.
'If Gong Yoo is the Korean Recruiter, I thought she would be the perfect fit as the American Recruiter, bringing a short but gripping and impactful ending to the story,' he noted.
Hwang remembered being deeply impressed by Blanchett's talent while filming.
'During the shoot, she reminded me of what true talent looks like,' he said. 'Even with just a few looks and lines, her performance was mesmerizing.'
But her skills didn't stop there. 'She was amazing at playing ddakji,' Hwang added. 'I believe she successfully flipped the ddakji with her first try, and we were able to get that one long take right away.'
Season three of Squid Game is streaming now on Netflix.

Dee Hsu's second daughter holds first solo art exhibition
1 Jul- While her mother is still taking a break from the limelight, Dee Hsu's second daughter Lily Hsu recently held her first solo art exhibition in Taipei. On 29 June, Lily unveiled her series of artworks called "Prey of Prey", which revolves around the imagination of "pseudo-utopia" and is inspired by the movie "Black Swan". Among the paintings she exhibited include "Barbie", which was named after her late aunt, who passed away in February. She stated that she began working on the painting around Lunar New Year and completed it in May. Saying that Barbie used to call her "treasure girl" and was always the first to praise her artwork, Lily said, "She made me feel that as long as I stayed true to myself, everything would be okay." As for Dee's most favourite painting, Lily said that it was the one called "Hungry Girl". "One night, my mum opened my bedroom door and saw the painting. She said, 'Oh my God, your aunt would absolutely love this.' The two of us curled up in front of it, crying and talking for a long time." Dee herself attended the exhibition with husband Mike as a VVIP, wearing a black long coat, a white top and blue jeans. She was later seen going out with good friend, Christine Fan. Chris Lee on viral puffy skirt: I dressed myself!
1 Jul - Chris Lee (also known as Li Yuchun) recently showed her humorous side when she appeared for the first time on season two of "Talk Show & Friends". The singer, who is known for her androgynous style, couldn't help but address the previous Weibo trending topic of "Who gave Chris Lee the skirt to wear?" when she appeared wearing a blue dress with a puffy skirt back in January. She expressed, "There are many rumours about me. At 20, they said I was the daughter of a milk tycoon; at 30, they said I married an old French man; at 40, they said I was completely defeated by fate and sat in a wheelchair, with no one to inherit my property..." "In comparison, I think the hot searches on Weibo are more friendly. They are just asking who put the skirt on Li Yuchun? I will officially respond that I wore it myself. And I'd like to share a little knowledge. A skirt is a garment worn around the waist without pant legs, it's not a secondary sex characteristic. Whether someone wears a skirt or not is no reason to end up on the trending list," she said. She also spoke about being given the nickname of "Mr so-and-so" or "Brother so-and-so", saying that it stemmed from the fact that she is not the typical image of a woman that everybody knows. In the same speech, Chris then expressed, "I want to be Chunchun No. 1. In this marathon of life, running alone, I will definitely keep going." (Photo Source: Chris Lee IG)

ABC Cancels Beloved Show After One Season and Fans Are Devastated
ABC Cancels Beloved Show After One Season and Fans Are Devastated originally appeared on Parade. Sigh. Well? Another one of my primetime guilty pleasures just went right out the window. Or maybe it sank to the bottom of the sea. ABC has officially canceled after just one season, and this news is such a huge bummer, I really don't even know how to process it. The medical drama, starring Joshua Jackson as the beyond-hot-AF ship's doctor, Max Bankman, and Don Johnson as the Odyssey's captain, Robert Massey, wasn't exactly the most riveting thing on TV, but man, it was such a fun weekly watch. According to Variety, the cast's contracts expire on Monday, and the series will not be coming back to ABC's schedule. So I guess this is it. The last episode, "The Wave" was, well... the LAST episode. Honestly, maybe we should've anticipated this? Let's consider how the finale of season one left things. *SPOILERS AHEAD* While most shows end with some sort of unfinished business or cliffhanger, things kind of came full circle on Doctor Odyssey. Captain Massey was reinstated as the head of the ship. Dr. Max made it safely back on board after being stranded after an earthquake in Mexico triggered a tsunami. Avery (Phillipa Soo) realized she really does love Max and wants to be with him even though she's headed to medical school. And Tristan (Sean Teale) was totally cool with the whole thing and didn't make a stink about her choosing Max over him. So. In essence, that last episode set things up for an impending cancellation. Womp womp. Needless to say, I'm not the only one who's disappointed with the news that I won't be setting sail from my couch this fall. Other fans of the show took to social media to voice their opinions on the show's departure. That tweet sums things up perfectly. Was it a deep, intense show that left you on the edge of your seat and made you ponder your life's choices? No. But was it a fun, light-hearted, no-brainer you could successfully watch while scrolling TikTok at the same time? Yes. Here's another gem I just can't resist sharing. LMAO. Priceless. Another fan boldly declared on X, "I'm genuinely so fu----g devastated. As unhinged as this show was, it gave me so much joy and deserves another season." And someone else said, "I'm so sad! What a bummer. What a fun show that didn't take itself so seriously." I guess there are quite a few of us who will need to find a new guilty pleasure show to watch going forward.
