Alfardan Group awarded Qatar CSR Award 2025 for sustainable basketball court project
In a proud moment for sustainability and community development, Alfardan Group was honored as a winner at the Qatar CSR Awards 2025, held at Al Wosail Ballroom, The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, for its innovative contribution to environmental sustainability through the & "From Tires to Courts" initiative, Qatar's first basketball courts constructed entirely from recycled tire materials.
As part of Athar, Alfardan Group's sustainability strategy, and developed in collaboration with Continental Middle East, the leading German company for tires and automotive technology, the project at AlGassar Resorts addresses urgent waste challenges through creative, and sustainable solutions. By transforming approximately 500 used tires into a safe, durable 175-square-meter sports surface using "Green Rub' tiles, the project reduced carbon emissions by more than 50% compared to traditional materials. Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative promotes community engagement, healthy living, and social unity through sports.
The Qatar CSR Awards recognize organizations and individuals advancing responsible, impactful practices across Qatar. Alfardan Group's recognition highlights its leadership in sustainable innovation and community empowerment.

Muller wants ‘something new' after he leaves Bayern
dpa Berlin Thomas Muller wants to feel a sense of adventure when choosing his new football club once his time at Bayern Munich comes to an end following the Club World Cup in the United States. Verstappen would welcome Vettel as Red Bull F1 advisor
DPA Berlin Max Verstappen said he would welcome his fellow four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel as the Red Bull team advisor. 'It's more than normal that someone that has achieved so much with Red Bull, has been brought up by Red in a sense there's always a spot available, right?' Verstappen said on Thursday ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. 'I think Seb always kept a really good relationship with Helmut anyway, even when he left. I didn't know that of course they were talking, but I'm sure that there's always a space for Seb in any kind of form,' he added. Earlier this week, Vettel revealed that he was in early talks with his former team and current Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko about the idea of succeeding the 82-year-old Austrian when his contract with the team ends in 2026. 'We're in contact about this, though maybe not so intensively or in-depth yet, but it's possible,' Vettel told Austrian broadcaster ORF. 'What form that might take will have to be seen. He's already said a few times that he'd stop, but he's still here, and I wish him all the best so that he stays around for a very long time.' Marko has been involved with Red Bull since the team's beginnings in 2005. Vettel won his four F1 titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013 before moving to Ferrari in 2015, where he stayed until 2020. The German driver retired in at the end of the 2022 season after two years with Aston Martin. Verstappen annoyed with race ban question Verstappen reacted with annoyance when asked about a potential race ban if he reaches a maximum of 12 penalty points in a 12-month period. 'Is it a joke? I get asked that every weekend,' he said. Ahead of Red Bull's home Austrian GP, Verstappen is one point away from a race ban. Two of his penalty points will expire on June 30, moving him three points away from a race ban in time for the British Grand Prix on July 6. 'We are preparing ourselves in case something should really happen with Max Verstappen in terms of his penalty points. We currently have two replacement drivers: Arvid Lindblad and Ayumu Iwasa,' Marko told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper.

Ederson describes Manchester City exit rumours as ‘fake news'
PA Media/dpa Orlando Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has dismissed speculation he could leave the club as 'fake news'. The Brazilian has one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. The 31-year-old has spent the past eight years at City and helped the club win 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League. 'My future is here,' Ederson said. 'Some friends send me lots of news, but 99% is fake news. 'I understand you guys, you need the news, to put a 'like' on social media but there's a lot of fake news around my name. 'My head is here. It stays with City. It means everything to go back to the Premier League and to try to win the Champions League as well. My mind is staying in the club.' Ederson's comments come after number two keeper Stefan Ortega, who also has just one year remaining, refused to discuss his future when asked during City's Club World Cup campaign earlier this week. The 32-year-old German has largely remained in Ederson's shadow during his three years at the club. 'It's quite early for that question,' Ortega told media in the United States. 'I can't say anything about that, it's too early.' City endured a frustrating 2024-25 season, failing to defend their league title after four successive triumphs and exiting the Champions League before the last 16. In response the club have been overseeing a squad overhaul and it is not yet clear whether either goalkeeper is part of the long-term plans or if any contract negotiations are under way. Asked specifically about Ederson at his press conference to preview Thursday's game against Juventus in Orlando, manager Pep Guardiola said he did not know whether the Brazilian would stay beyond next season. He said: 'I don't know, but I am so pleased with what I am seeing in the training sessions and he is with us. 'He has had a spectacular decade with us and his contribution has been massive in many aspects.'
