Benjamin Nygren to Celtic transfer fee revealed as Brendan Rodgers closes in on man who was once hotter than Zlatan

The Hoops are in talks with the Swedish winger as they look set to beat a number of clubs to his signature
Celtic are closing in on Swedish ace Benjamin Nygren – who was once tipped as a hotter prospect than superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Hoops are set for talks with the 23-year-old Nordsjaelland attacker and could seal the deal for just £1.7million with the youngster's current deal up at the end of the year.

Danish big guns Copenhagen are also in the hunt, along with Anderlecht and sides in the MLS.

But boss Brendan Rodgers and Celts have already stolen a march having been granted permission to open discussions.
Nygren has admitted he's keen for a new challenge this summer after his career sparked back to life in Denmark.
The wide man – who can also play as a no.10 – was a sensation when he broke into the IFK Goteborg side at just 17-year-old with pundits suggesting he was ahead of Swedish legend Zlatan at the same age.
Then Goteborg boss Poya Asbaghi said: 'I've worked with him for over a year, so now it's no longer surprising. But I haven't worked with anyone like him before, to be honest.
'He is much further along than the guys I have met his age. I have highlighted Nygren as a great talent many times.
'Then I can't highlight him as often as I want because I also know the pressure it brings.

'Here we have a player who has extremely high potential. The expectations for Benja are very, very high.
'When he hasn't scored two goals after two training matches, people start to wonder, 'What's going on with Benja?'

'But he's 17 years old. What did Zlatan do when he was 17? He barely played football then. Nygren does and he plays in the Allsvenskan.
'That alone is big. But the expectations can't be as high on him as they have been.
'Benjamin if anyone is good at handling pressure – but he also has to have a coach who comes to him and says that the pressure is disproportionate if it is.'

Nygren was snapped up by Belgians Genk for £4.5m after less than 20 top team appearances but the move didn't go to plan and landed in Denmark following a loan spell in Holland.
He's roared back to form with Nordsjaelland though and has emerged as one of the top players in Denmark in the last 12 months, landing a pick in the team of the season after notching 16 goals.
Nygren also blasted his way into the Sweden national side and he has hit the net in the last two of his three appearances, with goals against Northern Ireland and Hungary.
Celts are hoping to push a deal over the line early but also remain in the hunt for several attacking options, including Sarpsborg's Sondre Orjasaeter and Royal Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

Liverpool 'immediately open talks' with Real Madrid star Rodrygo after Alexander Isak bid

Liverpool have reporredly contacted the representatives of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as they step up their pursuit of attacking reinforcements following their rejected bid for Alexander Isak Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid's Rodrygo following their initially unsuccessful attempt to sign Alexander Isak. ‌ After a bid £110million for the Newcastle striker was turned down in favour of a £150m price tag, Liverpool have cooled their interest in the Swedish forward for now. ‌ Despite Isak's efforts to secure a move to Anfield, including rejecting a new contract in the north east and training with his former club Real Sociedad, he will now rejoin the squad after their Far East tour. ‌ Following Luis Diaz's £65.5m move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool are still looking to strengthen their attack. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott are also anticipated to leave Merseyside this summer in search of more playing time. According to ESPN Brazil, Liverpool have reached out to Rodrygo's representatives in light of recent events, ahead of making an official offer. The 24-year-old, who has also been linked with Arsenal, is believed to have agreed personal terms with the current Premier League champions. Rodrygo has fallen out of favour with Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, who is prioritising Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, leading Rodrygo to contemplate a move to England. He is valued at around £70m, reports the Express. But clubs are now aware that Liverpool still have money to spend, having splashed out on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for nearly £300m combined, after Eddie Howe confirmed a bid for Isak. "I really don't know what happens next," Howe said on tour in Asia. "From our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again. "It is difficult because you don't know what is going to happen. There can be all sorts of talk and hypothetical situations but then you are dealing with reality. ‌ "The reality is we had the first bid from Liverpool yesterday. I believe that was turned down, from this point onwards let's see what happens. I have no idea to try to predict that." However, Rodrygo might prove a superior stylistic match compared to Isak, given that Liverpool have already forked out £79m for striker Ekitike. ‌ The Brazilian could feature on the left flank - his favoured position despite operating on the right wing in Madrid - to plug the void created by Diaz's departure. Ekitike would spearhead the attack centrally, rather than partnering Isak as previously suggested, with Wirtz and Mohamed Salah providing support in a devastating four-man frontline.

Newcastle make Benjamin Sesko bid with Alexander Isak's future ‘complex'

All eyes are on St James' Park right now as the Premier League club look to keep the Swedish sharpshooter while also attempting to bring in a big-name striker. The PA news agency understands Newcastle have accelerated talks with Leipzig to sign Sesko – who Manchester United also have in their sights – and submitted an offer reportedly worth up to £69.7million. The development comes after the Magpies rejected a £110m bid for Isak on Friday from Liverpool, who recently beat them to the signing of Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike. 'I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,' Newcastle boss Howe said on Isak. 'I was made aware that there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down all before I even heard about it, so I think there's people back in England dealing with the situation. 'I really don't know what's going to happen next, but from our perspective we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to what the club called a 'minor thigh injury', only for talk of his unhappiness to emerge. Howe admitted 'you don't know what's going to happen from this point' and, surprisingly, that he found out that the 25-year-old was training with former club Real Sociedad through the media. 'I know where he is, really, through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail,' the Newcastle boss said. 'The situation is far from ideal and it is quite complex. I think that's all I have got to say.' Howe was speaking at a press conference in Seoul previewing a friendly against Tottenham and was tight-lipped when quizzed on Newcastle's pursuit of Slovenia international Sesko. The manager said 'he can't talk about individual targets' in the wake of reports in the striker's homeland overnight claiming that the 22-year-old wants to move to St James' Park rather than Old Trafford. Newcastle have now reportedly made a 75m euros (£65.4m) bid to Leipzig, with a further 5m euros (£4.3m) in potential add-ons. Howe said: 'We are looking for the best players that we can get. Whatever our target position is, we're looking for the best, so I see all situations open and available to us. 'I feel that's the only way that we're going to get to where we want to go, which is to maximise, and it's quality over quantity. It always has been. Final session out in South Korea. 👊 — Newcastle United (@NUFC) August 2, 2025 'That's always been the way that we try to work and try to recruit, and I think we've done it pretty well to this point. 'It's been a challenging summer, as you know, because we've missed out on various targets for loads of different reasons. 'But we're still very competitive and we're still in there trying to bring very good players to the club and that won't change until the window shuts.'
