Czech family of 3 is accused of running a fake dental clinic
PRAGUE (AP) — Czech police say they have detained three suspects who allegedly treated patients in a fake dental clinic without a proper licence or professional training.
Police in a statement Wednesday said dozens of people visited the clinic after the family of three opened it at their home in the town of Havlíčkův Brod, some 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Prague, two years ago. The trio made 4 million Czech koruna ($185,000) before they were detained earlier this month.
The three have pleaded guilty to charges including running an illegal business, attempted bodily harm, stealing and illegal production and handling of narcotics, psychotropic substances and poison. They face up to eight years in prison.
Police say the 22-year-old son consulted the internet to do procedures, including extractions, while his 50-year-old mother, a nurse by profession, worked as his assistant and provided materials. The 44-year-old father made prosthetic devices.
The regional Denik newspaper said the clinic was reported by a dentist who was approached by a patient who suffered from complications after treatment.

Teen driver hits Stockton patrol car to try and help suspects escape, police say
Stockton Police said a teenage girl tried to help robbery suspects escape by ramming a patrol car with the vehicle she was driving on Friday. Around 3:11 p.m., police said three men, ages 32, 44 and 44, were pistol-whipped, punched and had their belongings taken. Officers spotted the suspects, and the suspects tried to run from officers, police said. During the pursuit, a driver rammed into a patrol car to try and pick up the suspects and flee, police said. One of the suspects was arrested, and the driver of the vehicle was arrested after the vehicle was disabled, police said. According to police, force was used to arrest the driver. Stockton Police said a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy, firearm charges and resisting arrest. A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer, robbery, conspiracy, accessory, firearm charges, evading and resisting arrest, police said. The officer was not injured, and the victims were treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Police recovered the gun, and they were able to recover most of the victims' property.

A woman's house in California was burglarized so many times that even bears went in
MAGALIA, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors say a woman's home in a remote area of northern California was so badly damaged by a series of burglaries that bears were able to get inside, causing additional destruction that compounded her financial losses. The Butte County District Attorney's Office said it filed burglary charges over the past week against 11 people for the break-ins at the home of a 64-year-old woman outside Magalia. The homeowner first reported a burglary in April 2024, authorities said. That was followed by a series of additional intrusions that drove her from her home. With the house being empty, bears went inside. Along with the 11 suspects, Butte County prosecutors said, another five suspects have been tentatively identified and charges against them are pending. Five of the 11 were still in the county jail as of early Saturday, all facing a burglary charge. Others have posted bail or were released on their own recognizance, according to the district attorney's statement. Ten are residents of Magalia, while the other is from nearby Paradise. Magalia is about 92 miles (148 kilometers) north of Sacramento in a region of vast national forests. The woman's home is in the Lovelock area, just north of Magalia.
