Anwar hopes Canada reconsider visa exemption for Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his hope to his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney to reconsider visa exemptions for Malaysians.
Malaysian citizens will need a visa for a trip to Canada, as a tourist, to study or to work.
'This is in line with the treatment given to other Commonwealth countries to strengthen people-to-people ties and expand multilateral exchanges,' he said in a post on X today.
Anwar, who is currently on an official visit to Paris, contacted Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to congratulate him on the Liberal Party's victory in the recent Canadian election.
Canada visa fees for Malaysian citizens include a fee to the Canadian government, a biometric fee and additional fees for support or service from VFS Global, the designated third-party administrator for Canada visas in Malaysia. – Bernama anwar ibrahim canada Mark Carney visa

'This meeting is basically to discuss the way forward in terms of cooperation with our partners,' she told Bernama after chairing the meeting ahead of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here. At the same time, she said the committee also reviewed efforts to strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat, preparations for Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship throughout this year, as well as the CPR's work plan. The meeting was attended by permanent representatives of all ten ASEAN member states. Timor-Leste, which is attending as an observer, was also present. KUALA KRAI, July 6 (Bernama) -- The accreditation of a freelance preacher alleged to be involved in the circulation of sex videos had already been revoked, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. He urged the public to allow the police to carry out their investigation fairly and transparently. 'Based on information received, he was previously granted permission to preach, which has since been withdrawn. 'We must place our trust in the police to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation. It is best to allow the process to take its course to avoid any miscarriage of justice,' he told reporters after officiating the Wacana Dakwah Al-Falah Memacu Ummah MADANI programme at Pondok Sungai Durian here today. Yesterday, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that an investigation was underway following a police report lodged by the preacher's second wife on June 16. She alleged that he had circulated explicit videos involving her, his first wife, and several other women. The suspect has since been released on police bail pending completion of investigations under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Mohd Na'im also reminded religious speakers to uphold Islamic principles and use their knowledge to guide the community, not engage in behaviour that undermines the integrity of religious institutions. 'Any preacher found to have acted in a manner that tarnishes the image of religious institutions will have their accreditation revoked by the respective state religious authorities. 'I also encourage the public to verify the credentials of any invited speaker with the State Mufti Department or religious authority to ensure they are truly certified,' he added.
