Woman dies after driver 'flips car before running down road and attacking her'
The female pedestrian in her 50s was rushed to hospital earlier this week following the incident.
A woman has tragically died after she was allegedly assaulted by a BMW driver after he crashed his vehicle.
The pedestrian, in her 50s, was rushed to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre on Tuesday, June 24, after the crazed attack in Leicester. Cops were called to reports that the vehicle had crashed on Aylestone Road, close to the four star Voco hotel.
Officers confirmed that the driver ran out of his white BMW 1 series and randomly harmed the woman in the street.
Detailing the moments after the crash, a spokesperson for the force said: 'Minutes later, the driver was seen to leave the vehicle before running down the middle of Aylestone Road towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he then assaulted a female pedestrian in the street, reports the Mirror.
'The victim, a woman in her fifties, was subjected to a serious assault and was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with life-threatening injuries.' The woman died on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The 23-year-old driver, who was detained by cops at the scene, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession with intent to supply class B drugs, assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and failing to provide a specimen.
The driver has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody after a warrant of further detention was granted. Detective Inspector Emma Matts, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation team said: 'This woman was sadly subjected to a serious assault and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her family and close friends have remained at her bedside and tragically she died this afternoon.
'Since the incident, a dedicated team of detectives have worked tirelessly pursuing all lines of inquiry to establish the full circumstances around what happened. Those inquiries will very much continue as we now move the incident to a murder investigation.
'I would like to thank those members of the public who have contacted with information about what they saw but I would also still like to appeal to anyone who saw anything connected to this incident or filmed any footage – whether that was of the vehicle being driven beforehand through the city centre, the collision itself or the assault – and hasn't spoken to officers, to please get in touch.
'Again, if you were driving a vehicle which has a dash cam, please check your vehicle to see if it has captured anything of use to the investigation.
'What you know could still be a crucial piece of information so please do not hesitate to pass that on.'

Van drives wrong way down dual carriageway in horrifying police chase footage
Police have released shocking footage showing officers pursue a van through a major UK city as it drives the wrong way along a dual carriageway and runs a red light Dramatic dashcam footage shows a van driving through a city's suburbs while being chased by police. The van was spotted by officers with its lights off in the early hours of Thursday, June 26, before being pulled over. As officers got out of their car to speak to the driver, the van sped off down Wigman Road in the Bilborough area of Nottingham. A six-minute pursuit followed as he was pursued to the Basford area of the city. In an attempt to evade officers, the driver did a lap around a set of garages, swerved across the road and went the wrong way around a roundabout. The driver is also seen running a red light in the footage released by Nottinghamshire Police, before turning onto the A6514 Western Boulevard. At this point in the police chase, the van was damaged and seen travelling 600 metres along the wrong side of the dual carriageway. Sparks could be seen flying from the van after tyres popped during the pursuit before turning off the dual carriageway. He then abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee the scene. Officers arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop. A bag of cocaine was also found inside the van. As a result, the man was later arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession of class A drugs, NottinghamshireLive reports. Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "As I've said, thankfully because it was in the early hours of the morning, the roads weren't busy, otherwise this could've led to a very serious accident. "By trailing the van from a safe distance, the officers in pursuit ensured this didn't happen and arrested a suspect soon afterwards, so they deserve a lot of credit for their efforts." Earlier this year the Mirror reported on Mazyar Azarbonyad, 20, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving after seven police officers were injured in a huge pile up in a pile up on the A1 involving five police vehicles and a car. He also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and a licence several times after the horrific crash. The Iran-born defendant, who came to the UK in around 2020, was behind the wheel of a powerful BMW which was being pursued by police along the A1 near the Gateshead and Newcastle border at around 2.30am on April 9 when the collision occurred. The crash happened near the Derwent Haugh Road junction, on the borders of Gateshead and Newcastle, at 2.27am on April 9. The Northumbria force said seven officers were taken to hospital with what it described as non-life threatening injuries. They have all since been discharged. A spokesman said the two occupants of a BMW, which was being pursued at the time, were uninjured.

Driver killed road worker dad at Dumbarton crash scene
Mr Farr ended up trapped under the 46-year-old joiner's car. The 59-year-old dad-of-two sadly never survived. Mr Farr's four workmates from the road maintenance firm were also badly hurt. Prosecutor Erin Campbell told the court: "It is this earlier collision which lead to Neil Farr and his colleagues attending on behalf of Amey. 'The purpose was to make safe the falling light.' Mr Farr and his colleague, Andrew Taylor, arrived first. Colleagues Paul Jordan, Keith McFadzean and Jamie Hernon then turned up. Kas meantime had been travelling from Glasgow with his partner on way to check out a joinery job. One motorist was aware of Kas going past him on the A82.
