'There's a quiet beauty in how property agents move through the world, helping others begin new chapters, while balancing their own,' shares Sivaram Parameswaran, marketing director of PropertyGuru Singapore. 'That tension between the personal and professional felt poetic to us, and we wanted the jacket to express that duality with subtle power.' Beyond its tribute to agents, the jacket also honours SG60 as a reflection of our collective national spirit—rooted in everyday stories, cultural nuance, and the evolving pride of a nation still writing its story.
Reversible in design and rich in symbolism, the piece channels the duality many Singaporeans—like the property agents featured in the campaign—navigate daily between tradition and progress, home and hustle. Their lived experiences form the emotional backbone of this collaboration, grounding the jacket's narrative in authenticity and resonance.
Drawing from the inspiration of the classic souvenir jacket, Ong modernises the form with a deliberate balance of sophistication and personality, infusing the silhouette with unmistakably local references. Featuring a reversible structure, one side of the jacket presents a refined grey pinstripe, a nod to Singapore's polished modernity and sense of structure. On the reverse, a vibrant red canvas comes alive with embroidered motifs: a heartland cat emerging from the louvre windows of a Peranakan shophouse, the island's outline stitched beneath its paws, and a blooming Vanda Miss Joaquim beside the words 'Orchid City', anchoring the look. Like the agents it was inspired by, this contrast mirrors their duality of a tailored exterior with an inner depth rooted in care and connection. A subtle tribute to resilience and hybridity, the elements come together to build a narrative, capturing fragments of a collective memory and transforming the jacket into a wearable story.

Every detail is considered, from the tension placed on each thread—intentionally loosened to create subtle imperfections—to the symbolism woven throughout. 'Creating this piece was personal,' Ong shares. 'It was about capturing the lived-in textures of Singapore, not the polished façade. It had to feel emotional, imperfect, real.' In typical Sabotage style, the result is raw but refined, nostalgic yet current—a design language that mirrors the rhythms of the city itself.
This collaboration goes beyond aesthetics—it is a quiet tribute to those who contribute daily to nation building, and a reminder that fashion, too, can hold space for reflection and gratitude. While its production run remains limited, the jacket's impact is far from small. It stands as a testament to the power of fashion to hold memory, provoke reflection, and connect people across backgrounds and aspirations. Only 150 jackets have been produced, most of which will be gifted to standout property agents who embody the spirit of the campaign. In response, Singh said: 'I think that we should always endeavour to develop and nourish a system where the rules are the same for everyone. 'I would like to think that is a road we are on, and we should remain on that road.' There were also candid responses to questions such as his worst subject in primary school. 'I was not too thrilled about mathematics,' he said. 'Which is very sad because I actually loved mathematics.' He also revealed that he is 'not much of a dancer', when asked what music choices. 'U2… Where the Streets Have No Name… I just like The Joshua Tree. I think it's a fantastic album,' he said. Singh's light-hearted interview, which he said was his first radio interview, came after a recent back and forth with the People's Action Party. The latter had questioned his 'deliberate decision' for speaking about Singapore's politics on a Malaysian podcast, all while 'previously rejecting invitations to appear on local podcasts'. In response, the WP said that its leader's podcast had no detrimental impact on Singapore's national interests, and that the ruling party is 'opposing for the sake of opposing'. Sales spike as weekend crowd responds to Marina Bay bazaar vendor's video
Sales at a corndog stall at the Marina Bay National Day Festival Fair surged over the weekend, after its owner posted an impassioned plea on TikTok urging public support. Hazel Chen, 28, who runs Kwazy Korndog with her husband Jay Lam, 30, told The New Paper that sales on Saturday and Sunday far exceeded previous days - thanks to the viral traction of her video and the media coverage that followed. "I wouldn't want to share the exact amount but sales on Saturday was twice that of the previous Saturday (which was $560). On Sunday, we did close to $1,000, compared to $17 last Sunday," she said. Ms Chen added that while it's unlikely they will break even on their $8,000 rental - about $500 a day - the response from the public has been encouraging. "We are optimistic that the loss won't be $10,000 as I had feared, and it could be reduced to half, thanks to the support shown so far," she said. She posted the 66-second video on July 31 after dismal takings in the early days of the fair. Sales had started at $560 on Day 1, but then plummeted - $17 on Day 2, $14 on Day 3, $21 on Day 4 and $32 on Day 5. It has since been watched more than 730,000 times, garnering more than 26,000 likes. "There was a rise in footfall, noticeably so on Saturday and Sunday. When asked why they came to the event, most said it was due to the articles and the video," said Ms Chen. On Aug 2, she posted a follow-up clip thanking Singaporeans for their support , citing a "small increase" in footfall and praising netizens for showing the SG60 spirit. "Many of you who personally came to buy from us yesterday, thank you so much. We are extremely touched by your gesture." She added that several other vendors had approached them to express their thanks for highlighting the situation. The couple had joined the fair hoping for strong crowds, especially over National Day weekend, given its central location and SG60 branding. The New Paper understands that Ms Chen and other vendors are currently in discussions with the organiser, Singapore Night Bazaar, over possible rebates or rental discounts. No details have been confirmed.

Reactions to this 'shapewear' for the face have been swift, sharp and sweeping, so much so that Anthony Hopkins – the award-winning actor who played the prolific serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the movie Silence Of The Lambs – joined in the fun. Casual observers say the product is contributing to 'bad self-esteem among young people'. It just adds to the many questionable beauty trends that have had people scraping, pulling and pinching at their face, or taping over their lips at night just so they can feel good when they wake up in the morning, they say. 'What that says to me is that this pressure to look beautiful has become so consuming that there is not even a moment of our day - while we are sleeping - that has not been commodified for the project of becoming more beautiful,' Ms Jessica DeFino, a beauty critic and writer of the Review of Beauty newsletter, said.
