Operation Sindoor: China shared live data on India assets with Pak & Turkey provided drones, says Army deputy chief; anti-India axis exposed
NEW DELHI: Deputy chief of army staff (capability development and sustenance), lieutenant general Rahul R Singh on Friday said that China was providing live inputs to Pakistan during India's '
Operation Sindoor
'.
Speaking at the 'New Age Military Technologies' event organised by FICCI, Lt Gen Singh said, "When the DGMO level talks were going on, Pakistan was getting live inputs of our deployment from China. So that is one place we really need to move fast and take appropriate action."
Lt general Singh further said that India was fighting three adversaries during Operation Sindoor, "We had one border and two adversaries, actually three.
Pakistan was in the front. China was providing all possible support. 81% of the military hardware with Pakistan is Chinese... China is able to test its weapons against other weapons, so it's like a live lab available to them. Turkey also played an important role in providing the type of support it did; they gave Bayraktar.
We saw numerous other drones also coming in during the war."
The deputy army chief also said that Pakistan may target India's population centres if and when next time both countries come into a situation of conflict.

"This time, our population centres were not quite addressed, but next time, we need to be prepared for that."
He also shared operational details and takeaways from the mission, underlining that military planning was based on both technology and intelligence inputs. "There are a few lessons from Operation Sindoor. The strategic messaging by leadership was unambiguous... There is no scope of absorbing the pain the way we did a few years ago...
The planning and selection of targets was based on a lot of data that was collected using technology and human intelligence.
So a total of 21 targets were actually identified, out of which nine targets we thought would be prudent to engage... It was only the final day or the final hour that the decision was taken that these nine targets would be engaged. A considered decision was taken that it will be tri-services approach to send the right message that we indeed are an integrated force...
An important consideration was that we should always be at the top of the escalation ladder. When we reach a military objective, we should try and put a stop to it... War is easy to initiate, but it's very difficult to control. So I would say that was a very masterly stroke that was played to stop the war at an appropriate time..." he said.
The army general referred to the ceasefire with Pakistan that followed the operation as a well-timed strategic move.
"When we reach a political (or) military objective, we should try and put a stop to it. So war is easy to initiate, but it's very difficult to control. So I would say that was a "very masterly stroke" that was played to stop the war at an appropriate time," he said.
"Punch was ready, Pakistan realised it could be in a bad condition, that is the reason why they asked for a ceasefire."
Reiterating India's present approach to security challenges, Lt Gen Singh added, "There would be punitive action if required.
There is no scope of absorbing pain, the way we did a few years ago. That is one important message that stands out loud and clear."
India had launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians and for which The Resistance Front (TRF), a front for Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), had claimed responsibility.

India proposes retaliatory duties against US auto tariffs
NEW DELHI: India on Friday proposed imposing of retaliatory duties under WTO norms against the US tariffs on imports of auto parts in the name of safeguard measures. "The proposed suspension of concessions or other obligations would take the form of an increase in tariffs on selected products originating in the US," according to a notification of the WTO being circulated at the request of India. India has notified WTO's Council for Trade in Goods of its proposed suspension of concessions and other obligations under certain WTO provisions. "This notification is made in connection with safeguard measures extended by the United States of America on imports of automobile parts from India," it said. On March 26 this year, the US adopted a safeguard measure in the form of a tariff increase of 25% ad valorem on imports of passenger vehicles and light trucks, and on certain auto parts from India. These measures apply from May 3, 2025 as regards auto parts, and for an unlimited duration. The measures have not been notified by the US to the WTO, but are, in essence, safeguard measures. India has maintained that the measures taken by the US are not consistent with the GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariff) 1994 and the agreement on safeguards. As consultations sought by India on these tariffs have not taken place, "India reserves the right to suspend concessions or other obligations", the WTO notification added. "Accordingly, India's proposed suspension of concessions would result in an equivalent amount of duty collected from products originating in the US," it said. To ensure the effective exercise of its right to suspend substantially equivalent concessions or other obligations, the multinational body said, India has reserved its right to adjust the products as well as the tariff rates. 5 districts corner 5L cr realty boom
Ahmedabad: Gujarat's real estate sector attracted Rs 5.03 lakh crore in investments since the implementation of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) in 2017. However, a lion's share of 94% of this capital is concentrated in just five districts: Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot, largely driven by rapid urbanisation, better infrastructure, and stronger demand for housing and commercial spaces. In contrast, the remaining 28 districts, which house nearly two-thirds (64%) of Gujarat's population, received only 6% of the total investment. Experts, however, have raised concerns over resource concentration and highlighted the need for more equitable infrastructure growth across Gujarat's smaller towns. According to the latest data released by the Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (GujRERA), these five urban hubs account for 86% of all registered projects and 89% of the total housing units in the state. "Higher education levels and urban migration are also driving real estate growth in large cities. In smaller towns, plotting schemes are more popular, where individuals build their own homes, and these often don't reflect in RERA data. Also, many small projects in small towns do not get registered with RERA so their actual share may be a bit higher. " However, the skewed development of the state limited to urban centres is fairly visible. Drawing on the 2011 Census data, only 36% of Gujarat's population lives in its top five districts, which account for an overwhelming majority of the state's real estate activity. The remaining 64%, spread across smaller towns and rural regions, has seen just a fraction of the investment and project activity. "All other districts collectively account for 16% of project contribution, 6% of investments, and 11% of units, suggesting a dispersed yet modest contribution from remaining regions," the report states, hinting at a widening regional divide in infrastructure development and economic and commercial activities. Since RERA's implementation, Gujarat saw the registration of 15,260 projects covering a carpet area of 13.11 crore sq m, translating into 18.20 lakh housing units. Of these, over 8,400 projects were completed.

Borivli-Thane tunnel casting yard planned close to SGNP
Mumbai: A portion of Sanjay Gandhi National Park's (SGNP) eco sensitive zone (ESZ) in Mira Road is set to be used for a 22.6-acre casting yard for the Borivli-Thane twin tunnel project, prompting protests from activists. A casting yard is where concrete structures like segments, parapets and beams for an infrastructure project are cast and is located in a manner that allows easy access from the project site. Of the 22.6-acre plot for the tunnel project's casting yard, 5 acre falls within the ESZ. Activist Stalin D of NGO Vanashakti told TOI that the ESZ notification strictly prohibits setting up of polluting industries inside the boundaries of the zone. "Any action that violates it will be challenged in the courts. The agencies involved cannot pretend to be ignorant of the law and they cannot create third party rights in the ESZ," he said. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai He said the onus is on the forest department and Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation to adhere to the law. "The region inside the ESZ is being rapidly degraded to facilitate construction projects. This is part of a larger conspiracy to destroy the natural landscape virtually inside the national park," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The project is being executed by MMRDA through its contractor, Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. MMRDA officials did not respond to queries from TOI. The proposal for the casting yard says it will not affect the ESZ's ecological balance (see graphic). Local activists claimed that even tribal land is part of this casting yard plot. Uttam Naik, Mira-Bhayander representative of People's Republican Party, recently wrote to revenue department officials on this issue. "Big machinery will only harm the surrounding environment and increase pollution," he complained. Last week, the national green tribunal had ordered the closure of two casting yards and ready-mix cement plants operating within the limits of the ESZ of SGNP at Thane's Ghodbunder Road. Once opened, the tunnels will help shave 12km from a Thane-Borivli trip, saving up to 1 hour, and will also provide direct connectivity, significantly decongesting traffic on Ghodbunder Road and Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
