Channel 4 Strategy Boss Exiting After Five Years
The news was revealed yesterday in an all-staff email seen by Deadline from interim CEO Jonathan Allan, who also set out a temporary change in reporting structure as CEO Alex Mahon gets set to exit. Hayat will leave in September and succession plans will be announced in due course.

Allan said Hayat, Channel 4's Director of Strategy & Consumer Insight who has been with the broadcaster since 2020, is exiting 'to explore new challenges and I'd like to thank him for all the sterling work he has down for C4 through the many challenges that have presented themselves.'
During his tenure, Hayat, who used to work for ITV, has been part of a nations and regions relocation, successful battle to avoid privatization, digital strategy and a Fast Forward plan.
He told Deadline it had 'been a privilege to do my bit to contribute to Channel 4's digital transformation over recent years,' as he flagged successes like a 'refresh of strategic direction through Future4 and Fast Forward, navigating the complexities of the privatisation debate and securing a new licence that positions Channel 4 confidently for the next decade.'
'I'm confident Channel 4 is in a strong place to take on whatever comes next,' he added. 'When I do depart, I'll leave as a friend and admirer of Channel 4 – and I'm honoured to have spent five fantastic years here.'
Interim CEO Allan is about to take over temporarily from the departing Mahon and he set out a reorganization of reporting lines 'on a temporary basis until a new CEO arrives' in his all-staffer, noting that he would 'just have too many direct reports to manage the business effectively' if things remained the same.
Changes include Film4's Farhana Bhula and Director of Equity and Inclusion Marcia Williams reporting to Chief Commercial Affairs Officer Martin Baker, Chief Commercial Officer Rak Patel taking responsibility for 4Ventures and nations and regions boss Sinead Rocks taking on policy and public affairs.
Allan said he will hold Q&A sessions in all Channel 4 offices over the next month.
The news comes at a time of change for Channel 4, which has also lost chair Ian Cheshire and Film4/TV drama boss Ollie Madden.

Amazon pulls the plug on a free service for customers
There is no doubt that business has been booming for Amazon (AMZN) over the past few months, despite recent shifts in consumer behavior across the country. During the first quarter of 2025, as Amazon's net sales increased by 9% year-over-year, it generated a net income of about $17 billion during the quarter, which is almost 40% higher than what it earned during the same time period last year. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Amazon Prime, which currently costs $14.99 a month, is also increasing in popularity across the U.S. Related: Amazon Prime quietly makes a harsh change to beloved service The subscription service, which offers Amazon customers access to exclusive benefits such as free shipping, one-day delivery, Prime Day discounts, etc., reached roughly 180.1 million U.S. subscribers last year, which is about 44% higher than the number of U.S. subscribers it had in 2017, according to data from Statista. Amazon Prime is projected to reach 185 million U.S. subscribers this year as the service continues to see increased consumer momentum. As Amazon Prime becomes more popular, Amazon has decided to cut the cord on a free service in order to push more customers onto its popular Prime Video platform. The company is discontinuing Freevee, its free streaming TV service that launched in 2019. The service allows customers to stream thousands of movies and TV shows and watch entertainment channels through its app, which can be downloaded on multiple devices such as Apple TV, FireTV, Roku, Playstation 5, etc. Related: Home Depot, Amazon, Starbucks suffer major boycott from customers In the Freevee app, Amazon warns users that the service "will be accessible [only] until August 2025." It also claims that "Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies, and Live TV." "Continue watching your favorite Freevee Originals and our library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free, no subscription needed," reads the message in the app. Amazon first revealed this upcoming change in November last year, claiming that the move allows it "to deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers." The move from Amazon comes after it introduced ads to its Prime Video platform in 2024. This sparked backlash from consumers and even a class-action lawsuit, despite Amazon giving users the option to remove the ads for an extra $2.99 a month. When Amazon Prime first introduced ads to its platform, it claimed in an email to customers that it aims "to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers." More media and entertainment: Disney makes major theme park announcement after startling lossComcast raises red flag about unexpected customer behaviorDisney CEO offers unexpected response to tariff concerns However, Amazon Prime Video ads have reportedly been gradually elongated to last four to six minutes per hour. When ads were first introduced on the platform, they only lasted two to three-and-a-half minutes per hour. While Amazon ramps up ads on Prime Video, it increased its advertising revenue by about 17% year-over-year during the first quarter of this year. Its revenue from subscription services also increased 9% year-over-year. Amazon's increased reliance on ads comes during a time when free streaming platforms such as PlutoTV and Tubi, which earn revenue through ads, are becoming more popular among consumers. According to a recent survey from digital security firm All About Cookies, 42% of Americans watch TV through free streaming services. Amid this growing trend, Paramount, which owns PlutoTV, revealed during an earnings call in May that PlutoTV "delivered its highest consumption ever" during the first quarter of 2025. That same month, Fox also revealed during an earnings call that its free ad-supported streaming platform Tubi faced "accelerating growth" during the same quarter. Jennifer Aniston teases ‘emotional' season four of The Morning Show
Jennifer Aniston has revealed the plot of the forthcoming fourth season of The Morning Show will be 'complicated'. The 56-year-old stars in the Apple TV+ drama, which follows a fictional breakfast show in the aftermath of a prominent news anchor being hit with a series of allegations, alongside Reese Witherspoon, Billy Crudup and Julianna Margulies. Aniston – who plays the TV anchor Alex Levy on the show alongside executive producing the series with co-star Witherspoon – told People that The Morning Show 'is just a beast to film'. 'It is layered, it's complicated, it's emotional, it hits on a lot of topics and current events, so let's just say, it's not Friends,' she added, referencing the Nineties show in which she played Rachel Green from 1994 to 2004. She continued: 'We're involved in every single aspect of the show, on top of just the performance side, which is a big piece of it. But I've got incredible support, and we have such an incredible team.' Season four of The Morning Show finished shooting in December last year, according to a post from Witherspoon's media company, Hello Sunshine. 'And that's a wrap on Season 4 of #TheMorningShow!' it read. 'Thank you to our incredible cast and crew for bringing this season to life. We can't wait for you all to see what's in store on @AppleTV!' Season three of The Morning show saw a romance begin between Aniston's Alex and the space tech billionaire Paul Marks, played by Jon Hamm. Elsewhere, Witherspoon's Bradley attempted to salvage her reputation as a journalist after she chose not to reveal video evidence of her brother taking part in the insurrection at the US Capitol. Speaking to Deadline, showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said the next season of the show would explore deepfakes and artificial intelligence. 'We blew everything up last year with the biggest bomb we could possibly build,' she said. 'So, we have to ask ourselves how is the band going to get back together, and what will that look like? 'We get into the world of deepfakes and AI and the misinformation in the fog of war that we're seeing now in the Middle East and stuff. 'We're looking at who can trust. And can you trust what you're seeing? Can you trust yourself? Can you trust your news outlet?' The Morning Show returns for season four on Wednesday, 17 September on Apple TV+
