According to a French prison administration official, the 20-year-old man serving multiple sentences climbed into his cellmate's laundry bag as he was being released at the end of his sentence

According to reports from CNN, the BBC and CBS News, Sébastien Cauwel, the director of France's prison administration, told local outlet BFMTV on Sunday, July 13, that the man "took advantage" of his cellmate's release from the Corbas prison, located near the southeastern French city of Lyon.
Prison officials believe the man — a 20-year-old who was serving multiple sentences — escaped on Friday, July 11, and they only noticed that he was gone the following morning, Cauwel said.
BFMTV reported that the man's cellmate had completed his sentence and was leaving the prison when the escapee got inside his laundry bag.
"This is an extremely rare event that we have never seen in this administration and which clearly shows a whole series of serious failures," Cauwel said, calling the incident an "accumulation of errors."
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the man was also under investigation in a case connected to organized crime, and local investigators were looking into his escape as "part of an organized gang and criminal conspiracy," per the BBC.
Last month, the Lyon Bar Association raised concerns about overcrowding at the Lyon-Corbas prison, the BBC reported, and Cauwel said that the prison currently has an occupancy rate of 170%.
"That makes the working conditions of our officers more complicated," Cauwel said.
Back in May, BFMTV reported that about 1,200 people were detained in the prison, which has a capacity for 678 inmates.

CNN reported that a similar incident took place last year, when another French prisoner escaped after armed men ambushed a prison convoy transporting him to a jail in Normandy.
Reuters reported at the time that the escapee, Mohamed Amra — who has been nicknamed "The Fly" — was arrested again in Romania in February 2025.

Two suspects sought in attempted break-ins in Van Buren Township neighborhood

Police in Van Buren Township need your help in locating two individuals caught on camera attempting to break into a car and a home on Tuesday morning. "Right now, we do not have any leads on who they are," said Van Buren Township Detective Lt. Ken Floro. Police say around 3:30 a.m. On Tuesday in the Homestead subdivision off Ecorse Road, two homes were the target of attempted break-ins by a duo that police believe were working together. "We have some video where one of the males appears to be talking to somebody, he's not in the frame of the video; however, both these homes are in pretty close proximity to each other," Floro said. In the surveillance video, a suspect described as a white male with a beard, wearing a baseball cap and a T-shirt with a cross on the back, is seen prowling around a property and attempting to open the door of a parked car. Meanwhile, at a different home nearby, a second suspect police describe as a white male with shaggy brown hair and a tattoo of what appears to be two English D's on the side of his neck, is seen trying to get inside from the back patio. "This is the video of this gentleman. He tries the sliding glass door, and then he moves off the deck and around the side of the house," Floro said. Fortunately, detectives say the suspects struck out. Both the home and the vehicle were locked. It's a good reminder for folks, as police say these types of crimes occur more often in the summer. "You know what's suspicious in your neighborhood, you know which cars belong, which people belong, and if you see something that doesn't seem right, seems out of line, maybe a little suspicious, trust your instinct and call us and let us check it out," said Floro. Investigators are trying to track these two people down. If you have any information that could help with this case, call the Van Buren Township Police Department at 734-699-8943 or email Det. 3 injured in Surrey, B.C., shooting believed to be road rage related: police

Police in Surrey, B.C., say they are investigating a shooting in the Newton neighbourhood that injured three people early Tuesday morning, and is believed to be related to a road rage incident. The Surrey Police Service says four men were travelling eastbound on 84 Avenue near 140 Street around 1 a.m. when a white Tesla Model 3 with an Ontario licence plate pulled up next to their vehicle "and fired numerous shots at them." The three suspects in the Tesla fled, and the four victims were eventually transported to hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries related to gunshot wounds, according to police. Sgt. Tige Pollock told CBC that the victims said the shooting followed a road rage incident, though further details have not been verified. Pollock said police recommend drivers avoid situations in which another driver is angry or yelling. "If you feel you're in danger, call 911 and obviously don't follow any cars that have engaged with you in that sort of activity.... If you can, turn in the opposite direction of where the other vehicle is going [and] stop where it's safe." Pollock noted it's unusual for road rage to escalate to a shooting. "It's obviously not common, because obviously for this to transpire there had to be a firearm in the vehicle.... We certainly haven't seen a proliferation of this type of event." But it's still a worry. "Anytime someone's firing a firearm indiscriminately in the street is concerning for police, and it's obviously a public safety issue — even though it was 1 a.m. in the morning, you never know [if there are] people on sidewalks or other motorists." Police are asking anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam or CCTV, to call 604-599-0502 and quote file 2025-58724.

An 18-Year-Old Multimillionaire Soccer Player Is Being Investigated For Allegedly Hiring People With Dwarfism To Perform At His Birthday Party, And The Whole Thing Sounds Outrageous

It's safe to say that Lamine Yamal, the 18-year-old Spanish soccer star, is living a life far different than your average teen. For context, Lamine is currently regarded as one of the best soccer players in the world and plays for Barcelona, one of the sport's top clubs. Talented teenagers aren't unusual in professional soccer; however, Lamine has broken numerous records, like being the youngest ever player to feature at a UEFA European Championship, and the youngest ever goalscorer in a European Championship, both when he was just 16 years old. Related: Lamine is reported to be worth around $8 million, and so, it'll come as no surprise to hear that he went all out for his 18th birthday party last Sunday. However, the Barcelona star is set to be the subject of a government investigation following reports that he hired people with dwarfism to attend the party as entertainers. Related: According to the BBC, the birthday party took place at a rented property in a small town just northwest of Barcelona, with a ton of influencers, YouTubers, and several of Lamine's Barcelona teammates in attendance. It's been reported that guests were banned from filming on their phones at the event; however, numerous videos have since surfaced, including one, published by the Daily Mail, which appears to show a group of men with dwarfism arriving at the venue with luggage. The video footage has been making the rounds on social media, and now, Spain's Ministry for Social Rights has requested that the country's prosecutor's office launch an investigation into Lamine to determine if his party breached disability laws, which prohibit the mocking or denigrating of people with disabilities. BBC Sport reported that the Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) has filed a legal complaint against the soccer player and 'publicly denounces the hiring of people with dwarfism as part of the entertainment,' saying that it 'perpetuates stereotypes, fuels discrimination, and undermines the image and rights' of people with disabilities. Neither Lamine nor FC Barcelona has spoken out about the controversy. However, a Spanish radio station called RAC1 broadcast an interview with a person claiming to be one of the 'artists with dwarfism who was hired' to attend the party. The individual, who chose to remain anonymous, defended Lamine's alleged actions, saying: 'No one disrespected us… I don't understand why there's so much hype. We're normal people, who do what we want, in an absolutely legal way.'
