Former MLB All-Star Frazier Wants Little Leaguers To Squish The Bug
Todd Frazier wants youth baseball players to 'squish the bug' in a couple of different ways.
For one, the two-time All-Star third baseman wants hitters to use the squish the bug method while they are in batter's box. He also wants Little Leaguers to squish the bugs that can become a distraction while they are hitting.
So, what does squish the bug mean when it comes to hitting?
'Growing up in New Jersey I was taught that your back foot comes through the zone and as you come through it and as your back foot comes through, it turns and you squish the bug. You're going to have more leverage hitting a baseball that way.'
Frazier squished his share of bugs during 11 years in the major leagues from 2011-21. He had 1,059 hits and 218 home runs for the Cincinnati Reds (2011-15), Chicago White Sox (2016-17), New York Yankees (2017), New York Mets (2018-20), Texas Rangers (2020) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2021).
One of Frazier's most memorable moments was winning the 2015 All-Star Home Run Derby as his home ballpark, Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Frazier also played for the United States in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. However, he first burst onto the national scene in 1998 when he helped lead his Toms River East team to the Little World Series championship in South Williamsport, Pa.
Thus, it only seems natural that Frazier and Off Mosquito and Tick Repellents are launching a 'Squish the Bug' campaign, an initiative centered around teaching Little Leaguers batting fundamentals and how Off can protect families while outside during the warmer summer months.
Part of the campaign includes a limited edition Squish the Bug home plate turf mat designed to teach Little Leaguers the fundamentals of batting. With fonds memories of his Little League days, Frazier enjoys coaching and mentoring young players.
Frazier also is part of the broadcast crew for ESPN's coverage of the Little League World Series.
'I have such a blast, and the kids are very receptive to coaching,' Frazier said. 'But you've got to give credit to their parents because they know when you drop your kid off and I'm coaching them, they're letting me be a coach and they're letting me teach their kids not only the rights or wrongs of playing baseball, but the rights and wrongs of life. So, I have a blast. I love seeing the ups and downs and the kids how they get really high one day and then they get really low another day. And I'm trying to find that happy medium.'
Frazier didn't have to worry about bugs interrupting his hitting while he was in the major leagues. However, he does remember watching Game 1 of an American League Division Series in 2007 between the New York and then-Indians in Cleveland on television.
Midges came off Lake Erie to swarm the ballpark. Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain, trying to protect a 1-0 lead, was so distracted by the insects that he gave up the tying run in the eighth inning. Cleveland went on to win 2-1 in 10 innings to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series that it eventually won in four games.
'They should have had Off that day in Cleveland,' Frazier said with a laugh. 'They would have gotten rid of those bugs.'

Former Bucks Star Damian Lillard And 3x All-Star Targeted By the Heat
Former Bucks Star Damian Lillard And 3x All-Star Targeted By the Heat originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 NBA free agency has been a surprising one, especially for the Milwaukee Bucks. Before they secured their new starting center, Myles Turner, the front office waived the injured Damian Lillard. The nine-time All-Star is rehabbing his torn Achilles tendon and is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 season. However, no one thought the Bucks would let him go with nothing in return. Advertisement Now that Lillard is without a team, he has the freedom to choose which organization he'll play for next. Despite suffering from a season-ending injury, the former Portland Trail Blazers star is still sought after by most teams, including the Miami Heat. Before landing in Milwaukee, Lillard expressed his desire to play alongside Jimmy Butler for the Miami Heat. Now that Butler is gone, though, the franchise is still interested in the former Weber State guard to be part of their roster. Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal drives against Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian McLoone-Imagn Images According to "The Stein Line," the Heat are interested in striking a potential deal with Lillard, even though he'll spend most of the time rehabbing. Additionally, Miami is monitoring Bradley Beal, who's still with the Phoenix Suns. Advertisement The Suns and Beal are reportedly exploring options on a potential contract buyout. The NBA insiders reported that if Phoenix buys out the contract of the three-time All-Star, they could add him to the team. 'The Heat, meanwhile, have serious interest in signing Lillard as well as exploring the prospect of adding a bought-out Beal. Yet it's fair to wonder why Lillard would be looking to sign quickly with any team unless he's searching for organizational support as he rehabs from his own Achilles tear," the report read. "Our good friend Chris Haynes reported Thursday evening that Lillard is indeed in no rush to make any decision about his future despite receiving plenty of interest from the Heat and several other teams.' Advertisement While the Heat isn't the biggest rival of the Bucks, there's still concern about the potential of an Eastern Conference team to improve and become a threat. The good news is: Lillard will continue to miss time as he recovers. Free Agent Bucks Guard Gaining Interest From Multiple West Teams: Report
Free Agent Bucks Guard Gaining Interest From Multiple West Teams: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Milwaukee Bucks have made major moves since the NBA free agency started. They acquired a younger center in Myles Turner, and re-signed multiple players to return to the team (Bobby Portis, Taurean Prince, Jericho Sims and Gary Trent Jr.). Advertisement However, they haven't resigned free agent guard Ryan Rollins. The 23-year-old guard remains an unrestricted free agent and is yet to receive an offer from the Bucks. This has led to multiple teams gaining interest in acquiring the former Toledo player. Rollins has impressed teams with his impressive play last season, his best season. He was mostly in a reserve role, but had multiple chances as a starter for Milwaukee. Milwaukee Bucks guard Ryan Rollins controls the ball against the Philadelphia Ross-Imagn Images On Friday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported on which teams have expressed interest in Rollins. Aside from the Bucks, the former 44th pick in 2022 has gotten buzz from multiple Western Conference teams. Advertisement "Coming off the best season of his career, 23-year-old free agent guard Ryan Rollins has drawn interest from the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told HoopsHype," Scotto wrote. Rollins played in 56 games during the previous season, including 19 as a starter. During that span, he averaged 6.2 points on 48.7% shooting from the field. The youngster also made 40.8% of his shots from downtown. "Despite withdrawing a qualifying offer to Rollins, which reduced his cap hold to gain more cap space, the Bucks still have Early Bird Rights to re-sign him." Scotto explained that the Blazers could use their non-taxpayer mid-level exception for Rollins. The Spurs and Lakers, though, have bi-annual exceptions in their salary cap. Lastly, the Suns have a veteran minimum they could offer. Advertisement However, that could change if they successfully negotiate a contract buyout with All-Star guard Bradley Beal.
